21 yr old Monique plays an agressive game, and can play well at the net.

Monique is having a stagnant year...it's always hard to follow on from a successful year though, and last year was relatively successful for her in terms of returning from an injury to the top 300.

Let's hope she can pick things up. She has the ability to be ranked much higher than 320 or whatever she is.

She should have been playing in these Asian events though. Perhaps taken a break after Fukuoka, and returned in one of the 25K's a few weeks back.

Next events:
Jul. 19 Oyster Bay 50K
Jul. 26 Lexington 50K
Aug. 2 Louisville 50K
Aug. 16 Bronx 50K

Good performances in these events will give her a good bosst up the rankings and maybe get her into qualies at the asian wta events after the us open if she plays well

Long overdue BUMP

The gal has the goods, whether she can ever get some point construction happening, will determine if she can rise from 350's to inside the top 200 (which she is more than capable).
But losing close matches to Ferguson yesterday, a tiebreak to Erakovic the week b4 and that marathon against Ambrovic at the Aus Open quallies, is something she needs to turn around.

TS

Wow, I was just thinking we have no Monique thread (yet threads for Barr, D'Amelio, Gonzales etc) and up pops this little gem from the past! ;)

She's certainly let some big opportunities slide this year already. Very disappointed to see her lose that close one against Sophie :(

Surely if she's going to make some sort of inroads on the tour, however small that may be, it's going to have to be soon.

ozfan44

Yes our priorities were all wrong :)

Ive changed my avatar to Monique becoz I was so impressed with her at the Aussie Open. Even tho there was no way she should've lost that match!!! This will probably jinx her, but for what she's been through, I don't think she could have anymore worse luck!!

TS
Feb 25th, 2006, 05:55 AM
Oooh yay a Mon av :)

I tried to put on a Monique avatar a few weeks back, but somehow it wouldn't let me. I tried and tried, but apparently I'm too much of a techno retard to even manage that so I gave up

SeanyQ

I didn't bother to start up another Monique thread. I knew there was 1 out there, but it wasn't being updated anyway so I didn't bother.
Sorry if having support threads for "Barr, D'Amelio, Gonzales etc" is an inconvenience or a non-priority....

TS
Feb 25th, 2006, 08:14 AM
Huh? I never said (or meant to say) it was an inconvenience or a non prioroty  I support those threads too, as I post in them. My comments weren't a pot shot at you or whoever else has started those threads, just surprised we didn't seem to have one for Monique, whereas there were other ones for other players ranked a lot lower. No offence meant at all mate.

As for louloubelle's 'priorities' comment, I think it's safe to say she was just taking the piss (as always ;))

I've always been meaning to start a Monique thread but never got around to it. I actually forgot this one existed, so if it wasn't bumped I'm sure I would've gotten around to it...

Relax mate :)

Yes I was taking the piss out of myself and TS and others, we say we're huge fans, but haven't been bothered to start or update a thread thats been missing for 18 months!!!! :o

Nothing against you, or the work you do on this board, which is much appreciated btw. Please don't read so much into it.

TS - Im no tech genius either but I admit the Mon av was hard work. Save to a Jpeg file first, and then crop, crop and crop until it's so bloody small that I had to chop part of her head off! She still looks hot though!

362-Monique Adamczak vs 2/171-Mathilde Johansson

1st career meeting.
Johansson only just got past Hori in the 1r. From what I've seen of Monique & Hori, I'd say Monique is a class ahead (except for the serve). So I reckon she has a good chance of causing an upset here.

Go Mon!

Dani D - I always wondered whether she thought it was going to come easy - just by her demenour on court and the way she just smacked the ball around w/o much purpose and then pouted!

I was thinking about Mon and Hori having a bad day on the doubles court... imagine the miss hits, balls hitting the back fence etc.... as they can be both pretty erratic :D

Woohoo! Great win there.

Even better news about the ranking. Her current ranking is ridiculously low...if Lauren Breadmore can get to 240, why can't Mon? Oh hang on, she doesn't play every single week.

Chuang will be tough, but it's certainly not out of the question

:) :)

louloubelle
Mar 16th, 2006, 08:16 PM
I think Mon has practically nothing to defend apart from a decent 50K in Asia (or somewhere???). Surely she can get into the top 250 by the years end. I think near 200 is not out of the question.

Chuang struggled with Bai - so Im hoping Mon can get this thru this one, and possibly face Sophe.

TS - now now, I think Loz took a week off a fortnight ago and she had the week of Christmas off (there was probably a money tournie happening in Tonga or the Canary Islands but she decided to withdraw at the last minute) ;) So she doesn't play EVERY week! :D

SeanyQ
Mar 17th, 2006, 03:38 AM
lol! The only reason Breadmore had the week off was 'cause she missed the qualies draw cut off for Indian Wells

According to azza, she's in the final too :hearts: First ever $25K final if I'm not mistaken. About bloody time!!!! I hope she gives Jarmila a good match, but I would be majorly shocked if she got up and won, so it's a great result regardless

Nuh she can take her.

She'll relish the chance to play without pressure against a big name, and she has the weaponry to hit with Gadjosova, it'll only be nerves that may play apart. Yes, Im the supreme optimist :p

Anyway great for her to get this far, on a surface that Im not sure she'd say is her favourite. :worship:

Down for Gifu challenger (but not Fukuoka) as well as three more in the US. Looks like she'll stay in the US - which is a good idea even tho she got some handy pts in japan last year. She needs to play the top challengers to get experience to know that she belongs at (and beyond) these events.

Smacking Wheelz 62 61 was significant, they are going in different directions as opposed to 6 months ago.

Notice from the new aussie girls site, Monique has based herself at Bolleteri's academy. Hope this works for her, aleasts she's close to good competition.

Also, good to see Christina Hori get a career high dubs rank of 163 after back to back titles in Europe. Hope to see them re-unite soon on the court :)

She smashed Carla Tiene yesterday 2 & 1 to make the quaters in Tenerife, Spain
Now plays World Junior #8 in tonights quater finals!

Last week teamed with german annette kolb to win yet another doubles title at the 25k in monzon!

Wow - didn't know the Romanian was world #8 junior, great win by Monique.

She's certainly bringing home the wins, last week was a bit of a blimp, tho Amanda Keen is red hot atm.

Good, Im taking your word for it then :)

What a win over Amanda Keen. Only getting 4 games the last time they played, and then winning a 3rd set tiebreak 11-9 this time. Hopefully she's not too tired for her next match.

Bummer being in the tougher top half of the draw :(

Definately has been playing well as of late and another good win against Keen

maybe a chance for US open qualies later on this year !!!

TS
May 24th, 2006, 01:38 PM
That's what I was thinking bronco. I'd say she should realistically look at getting into US Open qualies - certainly can make it if she keeps this form up.

I think she under estimated Keen the last time, and hey it's good to see her on the winning end of a super long tiebreak after memories of the AO match that got away  :o

Tough draw for her though. Paterson is a pretty decent player, but Gubasci lurks in the QF. She could have coasted through in the bottom half.

She plays the same Romanian junior as she beat last week, Q/463-Mihaela Buzarnesku.
She's guaranteed to move to about 262 for making the SF's, 246 if she can make the final or 241 if she wins (RU points from last week included. She made the 2r & QF of $25k's same time last year). Thus finally knocking Breadmore out of the Aussie top 5!!
She & Kolb lost in the SF's of the dub's 6-2,6-2 (to 3/563-Mezak/Pavic)
No change whatsoever to her doubles ranking, even for winnnig last week (made SF & Final last year).......

As with all those pesky juniors, the Romanian will be keen for revenge, but I'm confident that Monique can get the win again. Let's see.

Oh, and is Mon committed to another event after this? Going by her past struggles with injuries, I hope she takes a couple weeks off. If she over plays (singles & doubles - big workload for her lately) it could turn out to be a big negative for her, injury wise.

Obviously her fitness is a big plus and will help her body in situations like this. But yeah, I think a couple weeks off will be good for her.

Monique's not on any entry lists until Wimbledon. Hasn't entered Birmingham or Eastbourne or any challengers over the next couple of weeks. All the players playing in Japan this week are playing in Japan next week, ditto for China. Only a few un/low ranks playing the European & US $10k's.

Will there be a Aussie Wimbledon wc this year? If so, maybe she'd be in it???

Also, her 1r match against Amanda Keen wasn't quite the thriller that was posted. Score was actually 3-6,6-3,7-6(7-4)....not 3-6,6-4,7-6(11-9) as some tripper originally posted in the challenger thread ;)

Nah there won't be an Aussie Wimbledon WC. Was only ever done once about 3 years ago.

Yeah Stosur got the MD one (the year she lost Davenport) & they did a Qualie wc swap, I think the year before (where Casey got the wc). I thought maybe they'd see it as worthwhile again this year maybe. I can understand why they haven't done it the last couple of years though....

Monique showing why she will in the not too distant future be easily cemented in the top 200!

Bad Luck, would have been so great for her if she could win but gota take the positives out of this match she pushed her for 3 hard gruelling sets!

Love to see Monique get on those nice fast hardcourts in us, i reckon she can really do some damage and hopefully will finish strong in the asian wta events at the end of the year!

Checked the latest rankings and Mon jumps up over 20 spots to 254, 2 spots off her career best :D I'd say she's a certainty to crack that top 250 over the next few weeks. For some reason Lauren Breadmore jumped up a similar amount of positions (I assume a lot of players lost a lot of points from last years RG qualies and others moved up as a result?), and holds Mon off the Aussie top 5, by just 2 positions!

Pity about not getting through - she's obviously someone in the challenger circuit to avoid now. :)

But, I hear there are some wraps on Makarova - so it's not a bad loss I suppose. But she needs more decent challenger results soon to reach US quallies.

Well she got through the first round of $25K Valladolid this week. Beat the German girl Etzel in 3 tight sets. Good to get through a tough one, but I didn't think it was going to be that hard.

Next up is an 18 year old Spanish girl called Irene Rehberger, ranked 609. Never heard of her before, but she recently made both a $10K final and SF. Also, several weeks ago she pushed the young Romanian, Mihaela Buzarnescu (Monique's recent rival in the Spanish $25K's), 7-6 in the third. So obviously Rehberger can play, but Mon should be too experienced and strong for her. Let's see, because this is a very kind bottom half of the draw for Mon to get through!

Monique's year so far

WTA Gold Coast - Qualy Rnd 2
WTA Canberra - Qualy Rnd 2
AUSTRALIAN OPEN - Qualy Rnd 1
$25K Sydney - Rnd 2
$25K Gosford - Rnd 2
$25K Canberra - Runner Up
$25K Melbourne - Rnd 2
$25K Jackson - Rnd 2 (as qualifier)
$75K Dothan - Qualy Rnd 3
$25K Monzon - Rnd 2
$25K Tenerife - Runner Up
$25K La Palma - Semi Final
$25K Madrid - Rnd 2
$25K Fontanafredda - Rnd 1
$25K Periguex - Rnd 1
$25K Valladolid - (*edited* - into final!)

Not too shabby, just a pair of first round losses for the year, but there are a lot of 2nd rounders in there. Three finals (with one result to be decided) and a further semi final are fantastic at this point of the year though, with lots more tennis to come :) Spain has definitely worked out well for her. 2006 has definitely been her best ever year.

She's already played in 16 events though, that is only 5 behind Lauren Breadmore  A few years ago I remember Mon played about 30 events in one year, I'd say she'll probably finish up with about 25 for the year?

TS
Jul 9th, 2006, 04:15 AM
...and we're into another final

Mon beat her doubles partner Soledad Esperon 7-5 6-1, apparently after being down 1-5 in the first set. Woohoo!! Unfortunately she lost the doubles final with Soledad, so I hipe that's not an omen for the singles.

In the singles final she will play improving Spaniard, Estrella Cabeza-Candella (what an awesome name). Estrella is 19 years old, ranked no.307 (improved over 250 spots this year), and has had a very good last few weeks. Reached the SF of the Madrid $25K a month ago with a win over Marie-Eve Pelletier, and has also scored wins over Arantxa Parra-Santonja (in the QF of this tourn), Virginie Pichet, and Maria-Jose Martinez in the final of a $10K a few months ago. So definitely an improving player, but hey Christina Wheeler beat her in straight sets a few weeks back, so I'm sure Mon can do the same :p

Monique could of done with the extra 8 points for winning the tournament last week!

She is currently sitting at 252 in the ranks, had she won she would be 234.

She is not playing this week so can't add to her tally so getting into US Open Qualies is no certainty.

Pretty sure US has a 128 Qualy draw for the women which would have put her pretty close with basically the top 220/30 Getting in!

Now she is gonna need a stack of withdrawals, which might happen but will be close!

TS
Jul 13th, 2006, 02:14 PM
Nah she won't make it, but even if she won it would've been hit and miss. But yeah, certainly could have used those 8 points.

What matters most is that I am fairly certain she'll probably get in to the Aus Open qualy draw on her own ranking as she as pretty much jack all to defend the rest of the year :) Hopefully she can set herself up to get into the qualy draws of the other Slams next year. So if she misses out on the US Open this year, I don't think it's such a big deal - she should use this season as a building block for a better 2007.

Monique has entered in a challenger tournament in mexico this week. as the number 7 seed, she won her first two matches 6-2, 6-3 and 6-4, 6-1 to make yet another quarter final on the ITF Women's Circuit. Congratulations Monique and keep up the good work!! Roll on to the Aussie Open!!!!

The last two weeks haven't been good for Monique. Seeded in Mexico, and losing first rnd in 2 tournies.

She had a real bad patch this time last year. Hope it doesn't happen again. A real chance to break the top 200 after the SA challengers if she can get her game together.

Bad form still continues. In an average field she got wiped 1st round by a qualifier :(

But still the only way to get out of form is to play yourself through it. because one good tournie will see her near the top 200 :)

Yes I agree, but still that was an awful loss this week :help:

3 first rounders in a row in winnable fields. I hope she picks it up these next few weeks. I see she has pulled out of the Aussie 25K's and will stick it out in the states and Mexico. Here's hoping that her good year finishes on a high and not a low.

Bump

Id expect Mon to be pumping the weights in preparation for the play-off camp. She'll need all the strength she can get after her very poor end to the year. A top 200 was hers and then a string of poor results

Maybe the only one that can push Alicia, however it would be no surprise if she fell in the first rnd

For 2007 she has a HUGE load of points to defend to June. 3 25K finals. If she remains around her rank after June 2007 that would be a good effort.

Despite a limp finish to 2006, this still has been her best ever year. Broke the top 230 and managed to finish inside the top 250 for the first time. Don't forget she was in amazngly crappy form this time last year (a loss to Lauren Cheung in SA $25K anyone?), but turned it around to almost win the WC playoff a few weeks later.

She should've stayed in Oz to try to break the top 200, but I can probably see her point of view. You should try to grind it out overseas, because as Lesley Bowrey recently said, you won't become a great player by staying in Australia.

I really hope Monique can do well at the Play off.

Hopefully can win some matches over the summer and take some of the pressure off defending her points.

Interesting to see what sort of schedule she plays next year!

I tend to think that you try and get the cheap points when you can. A top 200 spot can really give you a good position for the 50 and 75K's and even some WTA quallies. Then you make the overseas run with that confidence behind you.

BUT the way she played, she would've struggled in Oz too.

I think she's had a long year and was exhausted by her big schedule. Her game is quite taxing. Everything is smacked with the cover off it and I was amazed with the effort she puts into her backhand. I would've liked her to remain in the US or Mexico and play those last couple of tournies just to try and turn the corner with her form.

However a win on saturday will be enough to rebound Id say. A loss :help:

She withdrew from the Gold Coast WC play-off, and isn't in the qualy draw. All signs point to an injury, so I hope she's fit for the Aus Open.

GO MONIQUE !!!!!

Her backhand was on fire today, absolutely rock solid throughout the entire match. Monique played the bigger points better and you could tell that she wanted it more out there. barrious came to the net quite a lot when i was watching and her shots were finding the right areas to come in and monique usually hit a passing winner. After Monique won the last point she screamed out and punched her fist at the ground. BOO YAA !!!

Awesome :D

Her match against Peng was much closer than the score suggests. She lost 6-4 6-1 in 90 minutes, so it was a tough battle out there. A telling story was that she converted only one break point out of 13 opportunities - just shows the difference in level between the two players. Very disappointing stat, but a great effort regardless. She really took it to a class player today :)

That's great to hear that she at least had chances. Hopefully the experience will help her for next week.
I wonder what happened in the playoff matches here?! She did well in the 1s5 round to scrape past Emily after having lost to her in the AO Playoff's. Then she loses 4 & 0 to Trudi. We all know what Trudi's form's like at the moment. Unless it was just a case of Trudi raising her level over a younger countrymate. But yeah, lets hope for a decent draw for Monique & the other Aussies next week.

She played a ripper of a match, despite a mini-choke toward the end.

Served for it at 5-3, lost 2 match points and then the game, and then just scraped through to break Iroda's serve and close it out. Her reaction was priceless, it was like she won Wimbledon! Good on ya Mon

Iroda played some awful tennis and committed a shitload of unforced errors, but I was so pleased with how Mon kept up with the pace with her, and forced a lot of those errors. It was Iroda's worst day at the office imaginable, but that's not taking anything away from Mon, she thoroughly deserved it :)

She went OK, but Svetlana really didn't give her any time to set for her groundies.

Mon's service action has improved, and she gets a bit more kick on the 2nd set serve. Even tho she double faulted plenty during the match - I think it has got better.

Pity becoz at 2-6 1-2, the next 2 games she had 40-00 on both and lost both 2 go down 1-4. Mon like Casey and Sophie need to start playing as much WTA tour quallies as possible to improve - I think all have the goods to be consistent top 100 players after seeing the likes of Santangelo etc... get top 30

Erakovic d. Adamczak - 7-6(4),7-6(2)....

Shame Monique can't play tiebreakers to save herself (3 out 4 sets against Erakovic have been lost in easy tb's). She was up a break for most of the 2nd set. Had 2 bp's at 5-5 & was up 0-30 on Erakovic's serve a few times in the 2nd set & managed to lose the games. While it seems that Monique is dreadful at close matches & tiebreaks (even Mireille Dittmann managed to win a tb against her!), on the positive she didn't fouble fault once. Normally in a match of that scoreline, you'd expect at least 8 doubles from her.
Much better than last weeks slaughtering by the # 338!
