Nastya to reach #1?

It isn't impossible, like you may think...

If Nastya wins the final on Saturday, this would be the rankings:

1 Henin 5791
2 Clijsters 5069
3 Myskina 3848

Remember, that Nastya struggled last summer... all she will be defending is Wimbledon 4R, and US Open QF... which is only 400 points to defend until Leipzig.

Henin will be defending US Open W, Toronto W, San Diego W, Wimbledon SF, Rosmalen F... and that adds up well over 2000 points to defend until Leipzig.

Clijsters will be defending US Open F, Los Angeles W, Stanford W, Rosmalen W, Wimbledon SF, San Diego F... and that adds up to over 1500 points to defend.

Basically, if Nastya can gain more points than Justine and Kim this hardcourt season... she will be #1 by Leipzig. Considering that Kim and Justine have injury issues... Nastya has an excellent chance at accomplishing this.

We've reached the goal of winning a slam... and the next step is getting #1. It's in sight. :)

It could happen Lina, and would be great if it did.

A russian number one would be something. Lets hope that if she does this, she will be the first of many in the future and hopefully masha can follow her.

I hope she doesn't cut down the tournaments too much this summer.

That would be unbelivable, Henin will be back I guess but now it's bigger competition and she won'r have so easy wins like last year. There are Williams' Davenport, Capriati and now all Russians. Very interesting!

I am excited as well, but ur right aobut the limited schedule, but she does it i guess because she wants to aovid injuries. And so far it worked, before Rome she reachd the QF or better of every tournamet she played. Rome was bad , but then she bounced back and got to the ifnals of the French Open. If the #1 ranking is meant for her, then she will get it eventually. She has proved to everyone she has the weapons and mental strenght of a champion!! :D
