View Full Version : Anybody following Suarez/Ruano Pascual's QF?

They just saved 3 MPs at 3-6 5-6 0-40 (against Husarova/Martinez), won the game and won the tiebreak something like 7-1 or 7-2. Amazing run of points. And there was I, wondering whether they were tanking the match to let Paola concentrate on her singles! No chance!

They win!!! :D 3-6, 7-6, (7-2), 6-2 - after svaing triple match point at 5-6!! :worship: :worship: Congrats!! :D

As for the possiblity of tanking so that Paola could concentrate on the singles, I read a short interview with Paola in an Argentinean newspaper online a couple of days ago (before the Sharapova match) where they asked her if the doubles might be in jeopardy (cos apparently she has been a bit ill as well), and she said no, that she had come here to win the doubles, so I doubt there'll be any chance of them not trying their best! :D I might try to find the exact quote later, but the computer I'm using at the moment is soooooooo slow that I can't bothered to search for it! ;) From following that match online though I would think they will need to serve better in order to win the whole thing.

Here's the quote:-

"¿El estado gripal pone en riesgo tu participación en el dobles?
-No, vine a ganar el dobles y con Ruano Pascual nos preparamos para cumplir también esa meta."

And the link to the article:-

Congrats to Runao-Pascual/Suarez. Tough match it was, but Husarova & Martinez both are experienced enough to put up a fight against any active doubles team.

Nevertheless, as others pointed out, they need to stabalize their serving games, if they want to go all the way here.

Testud/Vinci seem to be in great spirit and you better take it one match at a time - step by step. The draw looks good: other half the top-teams most probably will play each other before they get to play the 1st seeds in final. (Kuznetsova/Likhovtseva just survived against Craybas/Weingärtner 7:5 in 3rd set, while Petrova/Shaughnessy just started and are down 3:4 a break to Navaratilova/Raymond)

Good Luck in Semifinal !
