Strange; but wonderful. A grass courter/hard courter beating a clay courter? This is turning out to be a very, very freaky RG.

Great to see things happen to nice players. :)

And 1-4 down in the 1st too.

Wow, surprising result!

Actually I think Gisela is not a clay courter, she prefers hard courts, but I'm sure TBE can confirm this....
Congrats Asagoe :)
I'm a bit disappointed Gise :( you could have done better... good luck in the future though:D

Eh? She reached final at Birmingham last year and Hobart last January.

Yep, she's the one that took out Dani last year at WIMBLEDON,
and lost to Maria last year on grass at Birmingham. Lost again
at Hobart this year.

She's really fun to watch, and a very exuberant person on court.
Last year when she beat Dani, she went up the the stands and
did high fives with the people in the front row who she won
over with her spirited play.

Throw away all your cliches about un-emotional Asian players
because Shinobu's not like that.

Gise does prefer hard courts.... but she's still got some good results on clay.
but this loss is all the more sad, Gise had chance for top 50 and week 2 of a slam for 1st time.

Go Shinobu!!! :woohoo: :worship: Great win over Dulko :) She deserves it, esp. since she's more adapted to faster surfaces.

You are right, Asagoe is definitely one of those wears-her-heart-on-her-sleeve kind of gals. Definitely fun to watch and kind of surprising she decides to wake up in 2004 and go deep into the draw of the French Open.

A Japanese player beating a Argentine player on clay only happens in fairytale I thought. Just think how good she could be for the next month.

Hehe, me too (or three lol) watched her against Dani last year, although I already was a fan I fell in :hearts: with her even more that day. I'm surprised she's doing so well on the clay at RG but still so happy!! I agree she's more emotional than many of the other Japanese players. :D And I adore this pic!!
