View Full Version : The Chladkova Appeal

I wonder why Denisa Chladkova of Czech Republic has not much support from people on this board. I cannot think of anyone in the Top 100 who has such little support. She beat both Beltrame (maybe expected) and then the higher ranked Petra Mandula, and nobody mention it.

Well done Denisa :yeah:

We are still in shock over the loss of Justine, then patty, martinez, now vera and petra! Talk about going after the big guns!
Good work Denisa.

It is puzzling, could be the haircut.

It's probably the hair.
And the relationship to her coach who could be her grandfather. :scared:

I like her, but she's the kind of player who seems to go steadily through the year(s) appearing on draw sheets without ever having a huge result. Usually beats the players she is ranked above and loses to those she is below. Occasionally she gets a nice draw and gets to the later stages of some biggish tournaments (e.g. Wimbledon QF 1997, taking out Davenport). So for most results watchers she's barely a blip on the radar. Also it seems like those who do bother to find out who she is are put off by her appearance.

Nevertheless she still has her fans! :wavey:

Eurosport showed her coach once and the commentator said they are a couple. And her coach is VERY old. :o
Doesn't have to be true though. ;)

Yeah, those who said that the reason could be the haircut are probably right. To be a real, hardcore Chladkova fan you need to get the same haircut like her and some people just don´t want to pay this high price.

Its her fault.... she's quite pretty - but INSISTS On looking like a man.
She has a great hard hitting game... she's actually quite talented as well to be able to keep in the top 75 for so long!
I hope she gets some exposure soon. :)

It´s inappropriated to second those comments, but actually I think it´s true. Furthermore Czech...the people can´t pass the thought but connect her with the other "star" players of the big eastern country (no offend!) russia, at least I do that. Next match actually she plays against one of the glamour russians (Go Nastya!!)...so we´ll see...

Congratulations Denisa :) :)

Yes, Denisa would be more attractive if she changed her hair style. I saw her playing Serena on TV 2 or 3 years ago. Her hair was short, but not nearly as short as it is now. She looked like a model rather than a military recruit.

May 28th, 2004, 01:42 PM
Her hait aint that bad anymore, shes actually dyed it blonde and grown it a little bit (so its not a crew cut) and it looks really effeminate.

I just think there are other players who play better then her, and if people are to support the Czechs they tend to support Benesova, Bedanova, Strycova etc, cos they have better results etc.

I saw her at Berlin on TV and they said she had reworked the stroke. It didn't look very good. Kind of awkward looking stroke.

As A longtime follower of Denisa, I have a theory re. her whole "image problem". She grew up in Kosice (in then Czechoslovakia) often playing a younger rival named Hingis. Who Was the prodigy, won 5 Slams, got big endorsements, Spice Girls hype, etc. IMO, Denisa has never "made peace" with Marti being "chosen" by "The Tennis Gods" while she wasn't.

for me Denisa is an average player with a nice game and like one said never beating a higher ranked player (or very rarely) . I think you could compare her to Sandra Kleinova. Many up and downs in their career. Moving up to a position of about 30 then moving down to 130 moving up to 50 moving down to ......

Some essential Denisa facts for her fans:

Coached by Michael Kopriva since December 1998. She is a baseliner who prefers indoor and clay courts. Her father, Slavoj Chladek, is retired, her mother, Renata, and sister, Regina, are office workers. Her most memorable non-tennis experience was a holiday in South Tirol, Italy - her most memorable tennis experiences were her successful tournaments at Wimbledon (1997 QF), Knokke-Heist (1999 final), Hannover (2000 final) and Helsinki (2002 final). She likes wonderful art in all forms and values real friendship.

i saw her play live against ruano-pascual in the aus open 4th round and i have to say that it was one of the worst matches i have ever seen. they both played like club players (average ones) making unforced errors after like one shot in a rally. that match has really tainted my opinion of her, and from i can see she is the type of players who does well against players not playing well eg she beat patty once when she was on a big losing streak but patty has dumped on her on every other time they've played.

Chladkova was sitting in an airport lounge
as tennis players do
waiting for a flight connection
She was only passing through

Dressed casually in blue jeans and an old loose fitting shirt
to hell with all this fashion stuff
a little comfort doesn't hurt

Denisa thought She'd make a comfort stop
before She boards the plane
Her bladder was sending the full signal up
You know that slight discomforting pain

She headed for the Ladies room
Her fingers were touching the door
when a security Guard started shouting at Her
Denisa asked Him "Whats the score?"

He yelled "Boy, You can't go in there
It's only for Girls don't You know?"
She thought "I'll soon put Him right, this puffed up old so and so!"

Denisa said "I am a Girl, You ought to have Your eyes tested"
The old Guard said "Son take one step in there
and I'll have Your sorry ass arrested!"

Denisa thought "I could undo My shirt
and flop something feminine out
but why should She give out a free show
to this bullying sadistic old lout!"

The Man said "The Mensroom's right over there
be on Your way My lad"
Denisa's bladder was nearly bursting now
the discomfort was getting quite bad

Our brave young Girl thought "Bugger You
I'll go in the Mensroom and I'll use Their loo!"

She entered the Men's and immediately become enraged
for every cubicle had the door shut, and the signs all said engaged
and about ten Men standing peeing in a row
looking like the figures You throw balls at ,in a circus side show

Desperate now,She started dancing a jig
and muttering curses out loud
a performance that would make any Irish River Dancer justifiably proud
She said "If someone dosen't come out soon
and I have to pee in My clothes
I'll run straight out and punch that Guy
right on His swollen red nose!"

One fat Man turned to Her, and said with a beer sodden leer
"C'mon Boy there's room for You, right over by Me here"
Well Denisa rustled up Her deepest voice
and said "That's nice of You, dear old chap
but I have to decline, because the reason I'm here
is that I need a damn good crap"

Well old fat guts He turned to His friend and said "He must be one of those
scared We'll laugh at the sight of His pathetic little hose!"

Denisa thought while waiting there for a cubicle to finally clear
" if they only saw what I had down there
what they are holding would change up a gear!"
She spent what seemed like a year fretfully pacing around
the concentration causing the ache in Her head
to really start to pound
Then at last there came from the far cubicle, that familiar flushing sound
at last an old Man came shuffling out
washed His hands, messing about

Our Girl dashed in there, quick as a wink
and was greeted by the most appalling stink!
She hit the seat and thought that smell could kill half the nation
it really is an abomination
that old bugger needs a big operation!
but She had to proceed with Her urination
Denisa sat there and became much madder
as She emptied out Her overfilled bladder
"I'll complain, get that Guard fired, it seems only fair
if His Wife and His Kids starve ,I don't really care"

Then She thought"Is it all His fault to bear
that I'm sitting here in this stinking foul air
or could it have something to do with My hair?"

She pondered upon it as Her butt left the can
"Could this all be just the fault of that Man?"
She walked to the mirror, gave Herself a quick scan
and had to admit, She looked like Peter Pan!

She had thought at first ,He was a bullying killjoy
but now realised,He really thought She was a Boy
after washing Her hands,She gave the endless towel a thump
then came to Her senses with an earth shattering bump
"Is this then why people keep calling Me Gay?"
Like emerging from a fog, it became clear as day
She went running to ring Her next destination
and to a Hair stylist She gave a clear explanation
not sure but I think She did mention
the fitting of a queen sized hair extension
the stylist will give a ponytail that swings around
like the tail of an Irish wolfhound

so sometime soon when You're watching the tennis, and turn up the sound
to catch the name of that long haired Girl moving around
is She a new sensation, or the return of Kournikova?
oh no it's the new look Denisa Chladkova!!

I saw Chladkova playing last tuesday at the Ordina Open, in her doubles match against Krajicek/Gullikson.
To me, first it was the appearance that scared me off. Then when i concentrated on the match itself, I was put off by her playing technique. She shakes her head downwards and back up when she hits a forehand or backhand. It looks very off-balanced, looks like she's making a last desperate attempt to get a difficult ball back at every shot, sometimes it almost looks like she's falling.

Well, her technique is not superior in any way.... but her shots are powerfull and flat. Obviously she is effective enough to consistently win matches as she has done for most of this year. :)
I agree with the analysis of her shots.... she 'lunges' at every ball and there is too much body movement in her strokes, she does not look well balanced on the court.
Her forehand, although powerfull, is technically shocking... but her serve is quite good.... great knee bend and extension... she also can 'kick' her second serve.

I hope she goes further.... remember she beat Davenport at wimby once. :)

Chladkova was sitting in an airport lounge
as tennis players do
waiting for a flight connection
She was only passing through

Dressed casually in bue jeans and an old loose fitting shirt
to hell with all this fashion stuff
a little comfort don't hurt

Denisa thought She'd make a comfort stop
before She boards the plane
Her bladder was sending the full signal up
You know that slight discomforting pain

She headed for the Ladies room
Her fingers were touching the door
when a security Guard started shouting at Her
Denisa asked Him"Whats the score?"

Denisa thought"I could undo My shirt
and flop something feminine out
but why should She give out a free show
to this bullying sadistic old lout!"

The Man said" The Mensroom's right over there
be on Your way My lad"

"C'mon Boy there's room for You,right over by Me here"
Well Denisa rustled up Her deepest voice
and said "That's nice of You You dear old chap
but I have to decline, cause the reason I'm here
is that I need a damn good crap"

Well old fat guts He turned to His friend said "He must be one of those
scared We'll laugh at the sight of His pathetic little hose!"

She pondered apon it as Her butt left the can
"Could this all be just the fault of that Man?"

Denisa got NO points in the "favourite players" poll in GM :sobbing:

I must admit I forgot her in my list :o

Sexy Denisa has been strutting her stuff in the Gaz de France Stars thing this week, and she WON her first round match against Arantxa Parra-Santonja, 61 64! :D Esquimaux, where have you been hiding? You should have been in here posting the result and whipping up donations for the Appeal! ;)

Verbal donations for the growing campaign for a Chladkova Appeal website? ;) :p

Daily Dose of Denisa! (and YES this WAS Denisa!!, without her beautiful...erm...scalp?)
