Well in the womens, except for poor Alicia (although she has a win over Mystina and is in good form) i can see the other 3 winning there matches. Sam's and Christina wil have to fight for there but i reckon they will just scrape home
In the Mens besides Mark, who could be in some trouble i can see the other 3 going through aswell. Lucky for Todd who has a dream 1st round

Marta Marrero will eat Christina for lunch...she is in great form. Poor Chrissy  Oh well, at least a good pay day.
Sam and Nicole are in with a realistic shot of winning their first rounds, whilst Alicia obviously has a tough ask but she has nothing to lose and confidence is high at the moment!!!

I don't have any expectations that any of our females will win the first round. None of them are fabulous on clay and none have an easy draw. So if any of them do win it will be a bonus.

From what it looks like, Aussie girls might not last for more than 2 days:p
Hopefully Sam will blow Anna-Lena with her serve, but Anna-Lena is more familiar with clay, but that's the one I foresee to be the closest, the rest of the matches pitting Aussies against clay courters dont look good, good luck to all:)

I'm surprised that so many are picking Molik for a win over Myskina. To me, it appears she has a difficult battle. Myskina is ranked #6 for a reason, that is she wins consistently. Alicia has found a bit of form this past week but don't think she defeated anyone inside the top 30. Also clay is not her best surface is it? She may have beaten Myskina recently in Fed Cup but that was a dead rubber so has less significance to me. What top 10 players has Alicia beaten in normal match play?

actually molik beat myskina in a LIVE rubber in the fed cup.....a very impressive win!!!!!! but i can see your point. It will be a very tough match for alicia to win........especially with this being on clay and in a grand slam!

Guess we shall have to wait and see how she goes, Great ranking points if she can win

Well it wasn't a dead rubber. I think the only top 10 player she bt in actual WTA play was Hantuchova last year, so yeah, it will be tough.

Yer but you also have to take into account the fact that Myskina is totally crap on Clay herself and Alicia will have some confidence from Vienna will be a close match either way.
Pratty is going to have to work if she wants to beat Pisnik who is no slouch as will Sam versus Groenfeld hope both of them can win.
Wheeler on the other hand i fear is going to get smashed by Marrero, i hope not and id love to see her win but i very much doubt it.
In the Mens Scud should be able to get past Horna but i think will definately be a 4 setter, Lleyton should win if he can block out the french crowd who will be 100% against him, Wayne i think will squeeze over the line against eascude in the fifth set!,
Todd should beat Guillermo Garcia-Lopez although he isnt exactly been playing too good lately.
Interesting the guy that beat Luczak now plays Todd, maybe Todd can justify his Wildcard over Pete with a win??

I wouldn't say Myskina is totally crap on clay, she's won 2 titles on it, made an Italian Open QF, German Open QF etc.
Dont know how close but unfortunate that Flip and Wheller aint moving although would luv to see em all win

I agree with you 100% on this one. She does have the game, but while I have seen plenty to indicate she is a top 40 player, there has not been any consistency to say she is Top 20. Yesterday's match was a great example of being on the edge of breaking through, but not quite making it.
I am hoping that this will be it for Alicia, as she has obviously worked hard to get where she is, so I would like to see her rewarded with a bit of success.

lol clay is not Alicia worse surface :o Alicia must love clay coz she has gotton very good clay results last year and this year not sure why shes so good on the stuff but its good i would think Clay would be a Fav surface for Nicole too  becasue all u do is rally on clay and with Nicoles style of play she should be wearing down her opponentns and win matches but thats not happening

OMG u are all jumping the gun!
Do I need to remind you the last time Molik played Myskina on clay??? It was a comprenhensive thrashing. Both players have improved since then. Myskina though had a bad loss in her last match and Molik has had a confidence boosting week. I don't think anyone can predict it as molik did beat her last time which will definitely play a part with Myskina's own confidence. I'm guessing that this match will go to 3 sets but toss a coin who wins it, but I'd say Myskina regrettably.
Pratt vs Pisnik
Head to Head - Pratt leads 2-0
2002 Indian Wells 64 Hard (O) N.PRATT won 2-6 6-4 6-3
2002 Birmingham 64 Grass (O) N.PRATT won 6-1 3-6 6-0
Pratt has a good chance, if Dokic can beat Pisnik at the French Open with about 80 unforced errors, then Nicole certainly can. Pisnik did do well at the French Open last year but I dont think her form is that good this year.
Marrero vs Wheeler - On form Marrero should kill Christina however Christina is the underdog, no one is expecting her to win, I suspect she might put up a good fight.
Stosur vs Groenefeld - Stosur is slowly getting more confidence on clay. Could go either way 50/50 I think
Hewitt has the easiest draw, 1st match should be like 6-2 6-2 6-2, an absolute cakewalk for him!
Scud should win too. Arthurs has a difficult mtach as does Reid who hasnt been in the best form. I think we will have 3 men through to the 2nd round

So Many Mixed Feelings For Christina Right Now
Im So Fucking Pissed She Let A Great Oppurtunity Get Away From Her There
Up 3-0 In The 3rd Serving And Was 2 Pts Away From The Match For Fuck Sake On The Other Hand Im Happy She Got So Close To A Quality Clay Player, Now I Just Hope A 9-7 Scoreline Doesnt Affect Christina Too Much.
That $$ And Pts Sure Would Of Been Handy For Getting Into Upcoming Tournaments.
Maybe Christina Will Have Learnt Her Lesson That She Needs To Come And Play In Europe Before The French Open Not Just Stay In Us And Play Their Poxy Events.

Pretty sad state of affairs, but not unexpected. Let's hope that Nicole and Llleyton can continue winning so we have someone to cheer on come week 2.

Well if Pratts wins it will be not only a great vicotry but the furtherest she has advanced ever at the french open
but at Wimbly we might only have three people in singles and none in qualies . .christina and evie i believe are both under the cut off for qualies ??

It was reported today that Scud is injured! He injured his shoulder in the World Team Cup final, only had an hour of practice at Roland Garros and had trouble serving and hitting anything above waste height. Apparently having to resort to serve/volley tactics on the clay to try and get through the match quicker.
Stosur also is injured, she had to have an injury time out in her match so that possibly explains her bad scoreline

Mark did have an injury and said he woke up with a lump on his shoulder. He will rest this week and then head to London on MOnday to start preparing for Queens & Wimbledon.
Nicole Pratt is 3rd match on Court 2 tonight against Elena Dementieva (RUS).
Lleyton plays Jurgen Meltzer in his 2nd Rnd match tommorow night.

Actually it is really grim when a country as wealthy as Australia, who throws millions of dollars at their athletes, can have so few up and comers. When you read that there it is likely we won't have anyone in qualifying at Wimbeldon that says clearly there that there is a big problem with the current system. Maybe if TA hadn't been throwing WC's at the AO at players ranked below 500, we might actually be able to get someone new into the top 300.
I'm pinning my hopes on Sophie coming thru, Casey recovering from illness and Cindy coming back to her best form.

I think that will happen with those 3
aswell as perhaps Nicole Kriz and then monique, lauren and evie remembering how to play

We have the current situation aka hardly any players ranked from 100-300 purely because of the wildcards!
E.g Dittmann last year, no wildcard to Aust Open Qualies when she was ranked 250ish. Automatically she loses the 16.5 points off her rank from the 2nd round finish the year before and her rank drops outside the top 300 where she has no chance of really getting into any WTA qualies or $75K and $50K main draws.
Will be the same scenario if they dont give Breadmore a wildcard next year, her rank will drop dramatically. Where as what have Bobusic, D.Dominikovic and Lukaszewicz done with the points and money?? Hasnt exactly been used to pay for their travel as thats all paid for anyhow and the ranking points are insignificant for them!
I'm not doubting TA's ability to spot the talent, sure Sophie Ferguson has finally added power to her game and she's going great this season, but I doubt the AO wildcards have really played any part with this success. I'm sure she would be doin just as good now if she had been granted a Qualifying wildcard this year and no wildcard the year before!

On Bojana Bobusic, she is in perth resting
she was nearly burnt out after last year where she had some solid junior results and really just had a "bash" during all events in January,
she will play aussie itfs in sept/oct/nov you will see the real bojana there

Its fiar enough to expose them to seniors but it does them no good . . . . Watson, Dittman and Stewart got no AO WC and lots of other between the rankings you said have been overlooked for people ranked 700+
Its ok to have Reid, Stosur, Gucc and Dellq but who else . .fair enogh there are a few men who can play at ATP level but in womens especially there are HUGE !!! gaps in talent. I agree that Watson and Ferguson will be inside 200 by the AO next year
Perhaps if Pratt can win her 2nd round that might make us happy for a while !!!

ok i agree with watson and dittmann but what counted against bryanne was her 06 06 loss to snyder at sydney the week b4! i would be more than happy to give mirielle and cindy a wildcard over olivia and daniella or bojana

From 2-1 up (with a break) in the 1st Nicole lost 10 straight games. Hopefully with grass under her feet soon she will make a bigger slam impact, not that her Wimbledon record is great.... 4 or 5 straight first rnd losses
Success at the French and on dirt comes from playing a few claycourt seasons and gaining experience and playing many matches ala Molik. It's definitely not an overnight thing and to expect the likes of Sam, Sophie, Casey to make an immediate impact when they get their chance won't happen. I'd expect it would take atleast 3-5 years for any of these girls to gain genuine claycourt expertise like Alicia.
That's why it was good to see Sam playing quallies in some big tournies (and getting smacked at times) because that's where her deveopment should start.

Good to see some of our players getting thru in doubles, gives them a bit of extra practice on the surface.
Was specially pleased to see Sam & Bryanne win, as it has been a few lean years for Bryanne, nice to see her earn a few dollars.
Don't forget we still have Rennae in WD. To me it feels like we tend to overlook her a bit, and she deserves more recognition than she gets in Australia for her achievements.
Lleyton Hewitt took out 2003 finalist Martin Verkerk 6-2, 3-6, 4-6, 6-2, 6-1
While McShea and Sequera lost 2nd round doubles
