View Full Version : Casey Dellacqua & Nicole Sewell

Just an Update on Casey Dellacqua.

As i have mentioned before Casey is back in Perth recovering from a very severe dose of Glandula Fever. This was picked up early in her trip to USA and she kept on playing as the doctors didnt correctly diagnose it over there (stupid idiots), Casey has returned home to Perth and for weeks it was so bad she had no energy and wasn't even getting out of bed during the day. She has just started to recover but it is going to be a while yet before we see Casey back out on the Tennis court. Spoke with her aunty and Casey is really upset and pissed that every time she gets going she gets sick or injured and its really starting to upset her. Casey will definately not be back until late June at the extreme earliest probably July/August. Will let you know when she gets back training again.

Get better soon Casey.

Poor casey

Hope she gets better to catch the back end of the Asian tournaments and then she can have some practice going into the aussie challengers

One thing in her favour is that she doesnt have many points to defend she her ranking wont drop heaps

Get well soon !!

May 19th, 2004, 08:55 AM
yer its dropped to like 315 hopefully it won't drop too much more than that

Jul 3rd, 2004, 05:22 AM
Well what a comeback casey is having this week in the 50K event at Los Gatos

Ranked 324 Casey has beaten

#230 Julie Ditty
#157 5-Angela Haynes
#92 1-Samantha Reeves (biggest win of her career so far) in Str8 Sets!

Id love to see Casey go all the way, tonight she plays number 4 seed #153 Maureen Drake, who i think Casey will be able to overcome in 3 sets

Glad to see Casey back out playing at this level after suffering from a really bad case of glandula fever

Jul 3rd, 2004, 06:58 AM
She should have beaten Cervanova, I was there.

Jul 3rd, 2004, 08:52 AM

Welcome back Casey !!

Jul 3rd, 2004, 10:11 AM
wow the wins over Haynes and Reeves are VERY impressive! she must be playing top 100 level :worship:

Jul 3rd, 2004, 11:23 AM

Jul 4th, 2004, 04:01 AM

Jul 10th, 2004, 01:55 PM

Jul 10th, 2004, 01:58 PM
casey

Jul 11th, 2004, 03:32 AM
Wonder if she can get her ranking up tp get in US open qualies !!

Jul 11th, 2004, 04:23 AM
i think if she had of won last week and also got to semis or final this week she may have been an outside chance but i dont like her chances now does anyone know where she is playing next as there is no event besides a crappy 10k in the us next week

Jul 11th, 2004, 03:59 PM
Next events:
Jul. 19 Oyster Bay 50K
Jul. 26 Lexington 50K
Aug. 2 Louisville 50K
Aug. 16 Bronx 50K

Good performances in these events will give her a good bosst up the rankings and maybe get her into qualies at the asian wta events after the us open if she plays well

also hopefully nicole sewell goes back to the us so they can team up and boost their doubles rankings

does anyone know where nicole sewell is?
i think i'd better contact DR Young again

Jul 11th, 2004, 05:45 PM
Wow Casey 200 K's :p

Jul 12th, 2004, 07:57 AM
also hopefully nicole sewell goes back to the us so they can team up and boost their doubles rankings

does anyone know where nicole sewell is?
i think i'd better contact DR Young again

casey and nicole are playing in the doubles in san diego(in one of the worst tier 2 doubles draws ive ever seen :o )
they play jennifer russel and mashona washington in the first round tonight(our time)

Jul 12th, 2004, 08:27 AM
cool thanx man

hope they can win the points and $$$$ would be great especially for nic who needs all the $$ she can get

Jul 12th, 2004, 09:57 AM
Good Luck

preferred her to play singles in 10K

but guess a WTA doubles draw is more enticing

Jul 12th, 2004, 12:18 PM
ha ha ha ha azza i hope your not knocking my fave player again, if you are there will be serious trouble coming your way!!!!! be warned!!!

Good Luck in the quaters girls this $$$$$ is going to help Nicole out so much and help both of them lift their doubles rankings, hopefully they may even get into the us open!

Jul 15th, 2004, 05:59 AM
when are thye going to play their qf its not listed for tonight, that sucks

Jul 15th, 2004, 07:45 AM
when are thye going to play their qf its not listed for tonight, that sucks
must be tomorrow cos the pratt/daniilidou vs frazier/barna match hasnt been played yet and they play the winner of that
hopefully nicole wins so were guaranteed an aussie in the semis!

Jul 15th, 2004, 09:27 AM
they played last night

pratty and eleni won 61 64

Jul 15th, 2004, 10:15 AM
toughy . . GO AUSSIE !!!

Jul 15th, 2004, 01:23 PM
the reason i am pissed off at this scheduling is because if casey loses she will need to get her ass to Schenectady for qualies at the 50K event i presume qualies start saturday at 50K events so it would have been better if they could of played their quater tonight then hopefully if they had of won they may of been able to play their semi on friday, although now i think im just being a one eyed west aussie supporter!

Jul 15th, 2004, 02:23 PM

Aug 19th, 2004, 06:47 AM
casey said she felt really fatigued lately in her matches, similar to what todd reid said after they both have had galndula fever earlier this year, casey is now mainly just concentrating on doubles with nic and said she was pretty sure they would get in to the us open, after that she wants to come home and have a rest for a week or 2

hope her and nic do well in doubles this week

Aug 19th, 2004, 08:13 AM

Sep 13th, 2004, 02:21 PM
well she obviously did not play anywhere near her best
hope they can do well in doubles

third in line for a LL spot, you never know! but i doubt it!

Sep 13th, 2004, 11:44 PM
marta is a very talented player

Casey did well to push her in the second set . . .encouraging against a player ranked near 100 !!

Better Luck in Doubles

Sep 15th, 2004, 05:10 PM
well they did sort of better

they won 64 75 and now have the number 3 seeds sequera and whoever she plays with these days?

will be a hard match but the pts they get from winning this match are good as both are not far from cracking the top 100 for doubles.

also casey and nicole have withdrawn from beijing, guangzhou, seoul and tokyo and will be coming back to play on the uncle toby's challengers

but don't know if canberra is on schedule, casey has been offered a main draw wildcard her mum said but doesnt know whether or not she just wants to have an extra week off in perth or play will let you know when i find out!

Sep 15th, 2004, 09:58 PM
Would of preferred her to stay in Asia !!

better though those in Oz challengers . . probably wants to make sure of the WC

Sep 16th, 2004, 05:41 PM

Jan 23rd, 2005, 02:47 PM
Spoke to Casey the other day and she said that she was very angry and upset after her match vs Kostanic R1 @ AO. She said after leading 6-3 2-0 she expected a lot fucking better (her exact words) from herself. She just froze up and started playing up the middle of the court and stopped going for her shots and couldnt get back into her rythym again. After the match she said she cried for over an hour, she had put so much into the match and again didnt win she had to be calmed down by nic sewell and her coach! She said she will be coming home now after a disapointing effirt in the dublz (she broke her racquet in this match) said that her and nic playd really bad and were lucky not to get bageled!

she will return to perth now and train with sewell and bojana bobusic and her and the state coach doing fitness and match play before her and nic head off over to the us sometime feb/march!

Jan 23rd, 2005, 08:57 PM
Shame about her match but she should be happy with how well she played

It's good that she is going over to US again . . thought she might stick around for the challengers in Oz though

Jan 25th, 2005, 04:37 AM
i have checked all us entry lists and casey is not on any of them so she might be sticking around after all? Will try and find out what is going on?

Mar 11th, 2005, 03:12 AM
I just spoke to Casey on the phone she was meant to be going to a tourney in Thailand but that has been moved to May so she is coming to play in my home town of Geraldton next week :woohoo: :woohoo:

The event is over Easter long weekend so i will get a chance to chat about how she is playing and report back to you guys on her matches. hopefully with some photos also.

Hopefully she will be playing Nicole Sewell in the final if the seedings work out although sewelly will have to get past Siobhan Drake-Brockman in their semi.

Casey is the best

Mar 11th, 2005, 03:21 AM

Glad to hear that she is still intent on playing

and a good move going over to Asia !!

Mar 11th, 2005, 03:26 AM
she said she didn't really like usa
not suprising seeing though thats where she got glandula fever and the stupid idiots aka doctors over there mis diagnosed her

Grand Phantasm
Mar 12th, 2005, 03:22 AM
I hope Casey moves up the rankings and gets into the top 200 soon!!!
She is a great player with huge potential but hasn't had that much success!!!

Mar 12th, 2005, 04:37 AM
yeah glandula fever really knocked her back in 2004 but i think after a rest soon she will be heading back up the ranks

Grand Phantasm
Mar 12th, 2005, 04:49 AM
Yeah me too!!! She is great especially in doubles!!! But i want to see her get to the rankings she got in doubles in singles because that would be fantastic for her!!!

Mar 16th, 2005, 03:28 AM
Does anyone have any questions they would like me to ask either Casey or Nicole Sewell

Mar 29th, 2005, 06:57 AM
Rightyo what a great tournament it was for Casey winning the Singles, Doubles & Mixed Doubles but it was hardly surprising seeing as though she was top seed in all 3 events and didn't drop a set in any match over the tournament :haha: It was great to see her play again and was even better to sit down and have a drink and a chat a few times over the weekend as well.

First of all the biggest and sadest news for me over the weekend is that Nicole Sewell has quit playing professional tennis :bigcry:  :bigcry: , didn't really get a chance to speak to her as she was too busy enjoying some beverage! lol but Casey said Nicole is thinking of doing some study at Uni so good luck to Nic with that and who knows she might go back at a later date! Think money was getting a bit tight was a bit of the reason!

Now to Casey was simply a class above everyone else here she beat Nicole Sewell 6-1 6-3 in the final of the tournament that was played at my club on Grasscourts (the best in Australia and just as good as bounce as some of Wimbledon's courts, according to Nic & Casey!) :worship: Casey didn't really have to play at her best which was a bit sad for the final as i heard people saying in the crowd how did this chick beat soeone in top 60 in the world etc which kinda pissed me off! At most i would say she was playing at 80% of what she is capable of! To add she didn't seem very comfortable moving as it had rained all the night before and drizzled a bit earlier that morning and the courts were a bit slippery as there was no wind or sun to dry them out but, i will admit she does need to work on the movement and fitness part of her game.

She has been training every day in Perth since AO then went to Bendigo said she played ok against McDowell but got pissed off for not finishing her off in the second set! She was really happy though with how she & trudi played together but said she would have liked for them to play the Dominikovic sisters she reckons that would have been a good test for them! After that she was back in Perth had a break for a few days and then has been doing training for the events in Asia coming up!

I asked about her teaming up with Trudi full time and she said she was pretty sure that they were going to play together at the 50k's coming up in japan and they would see what happened there! That's also what she is going to do about the circuit as well, do some more training in perth than go over and see what happens fingers crossed for some great results or casey may be hanging up the (pink lol) racquets as well as sewelly! She said also Trudi was going to user her Special Rank to play singles at wimbledon and they had talked about doing the surbiton-birmingham-wimbledon leg together but nothing has been decided as yet! will get back to you on that one!

asked about decision to go to hobart and not canberra, she put in for canberra as she said courts are faster and is more suited to her game where as hobart is slower and windy and colder! but she said it was really good and she played very agressive but smart against jidkova and should have taken the 1st set vs li na. versus Kostanic at aussie open she won first set and had points to go up 3-0 in second and started to think to herself hey this chick is ranked 30 and i can beat her! then we know the rest of that  story!

Mar 29th, 2005, 07:04 AM
Shame about Sewell as she was on the verge of being able to make a career in doubles! I mean if Dhenin can, anyone can!!!

Mar 29th, 2005, 09:24 AM

They will be a great team

Mar 29th, 2005, 09:35 AM
nic
agree, kc and trudi wil make a great team

Mar 29th, 2005, 10:22 AM
Thanks Ozfan - great stuff!

Hopefully she can get back on track. Some time away training isn't a bad thing - keeps her refreshed for the year ahead.

Having Trudi as a doubles partner is gr8. Would be a good positive influence.

She's beaten or pushed 3 top 60 players this year - hopefully she can realise she can compete in the top 100.

Wish her luck from us when you see her next.

Apr 7th, 2005, 06:59 AM
Here are some pics from my local Easter Tournament of Nic and Casey!

Apr 7th, 2005, 07:07 AM
and a few more

sorry for quality of these but had bit of a flat battery and it was overcast

May 3rd, 2005, 05:32 AM
After Runner-Up finish at Hamanako Casey nearly cracking the worlds top 250!

hopefulyl she can upset Obata in Gifu and continue on her way up the ranks!

Thanks BD for info!!!

Casey had a sore neck that is why she withdrew vs fuda in the final!
Fuda has declined feed up to strasbourg wta qualies so casey has decided she will take it!!

May 3rd, 2005, 05:54 AM
Great News for Casey

she is really playing well at the moment

May 3rd, 2005, 04:21 PM
If she's playing Strasbourg, does this mean she'll play at the french open?

May 3rd, 2005, 11:22 PM
hi can someone please explain what a feed up is and how you get/win one?

May 4th, 2005, 12:51 AM
A Feed up in basically won through a challenger (she challenger forum there is a thread on it)

Usually if a player wins a challenger some tounries have it where you receive a WC into qualifying or MD . .

In there case Casey got runer up last week but Fuda declined the WC so Casey got it !!

May 4th, 2005, 02:46 AM
that's cool!

May 5th, 2005, 07:10 AM
Apparently casey's neck was troubling her during her 61 61 loss to obata in japan

i thought so cause no way with casey's current form would obata be able to beat her like that without the injury!

she couldn't serve normally had to adjust her action!!

she now has a few days rest before getting back into it at fukuoka 50k next week

good luck casey and thanks bd for news!
