Let's guess who's the next player that had a successfull carreer to retire... Here are some choices...

1. Monica Seles
2. Amanda Coetzer
3. Amy Frazier
4. Conchita Martinez
5. Silvia Farina-Elia
6. Lindsay Davenport (because she has too much injuries...)
7. Others

My guess is that Monica is going to retire first, and she'll be followed by Amanda...

Interesting question:

Well one of the first names that springs to mind is Els Callens - at 33 she is the oldest women in the Top100, and sadly has yet to win a WTA Singles Title. However as this will more than likely be her last year as a pro I hope she can win at least a singles titles - maybe the new Belgium Tier III event in September or a Tier V - maybe Palmero or Thailand.

The Veterans that are likely to retire are:

Conchita Martinez - that gal keeps on going and succeeding

Amanda Coetzer - rumour is she has retired but it would be nice for her to have a good send off and go out in style.

Nicole Pratt - won her first title at 30 - will she have accomplished all?

Silvia Farina Elia - still going strong; 2 finals so far this year........

Amy Fraizer - gonna teach maths when retired

Lisa Raymond - 30 and just beaten by Samantha Reeves

and finally

Virginia Ruano Pascual - possibly going to stick with da doubles

Seles - to retire in less than 12 months
kournikova - to retire in less than 18 months
Davenport - to retire in 6 to 12 months
Coetzer - to retire within 18 months
Frazier - to retire in 12 to 18 months
Navratilova - to retire before 65yrs

I don't see any other important players who could retire within 2yrs. Conchita will be here for at least another 5yrs

Lisa Raymond - 30 and just beaten by Samantha Reeves

Do people just not think that Sammy is good at all? When she split with Venus people said that Venus should never split with "someone like Reeves". When she lost to maleeva someone said that "it was never a dangerous draw for Maggie". I mean I know she is not top 10 material or anything but a lot of people here just seem to think she has no talent or is not worthy of a top 100 ranking or something. She has a ton of talent and is fun to watch. I guess I just don't understand why a lot of people on this board tend to think she is never going to go anywhere.

If Chanda doesn't heal fast, she might just get fed up and retire before any of the players mentioned above.

  i hate to admit it but i kinda agree with you. :( I wouldn't be so shocked to hear if Chanda was even considering retirement right now.I think she's at a crossroads right now as far as her tennis career is concerned.I mean it must be really frustrating for her right now to sign up for tournaments in the hope that she is healthy enough to play them and to then have to pull out at the last minute before the draws come out(Berlin,Rome, etc,,)She must be questioning her desire to play tennis right now.I hope she sticks with it and comes back to the tour immediately :bounce: :bounce: :bounce: :bounce:

I think her last year will be a complete 2005.

I don't think Coetzer will play again.

I love Mary
May 15th, 2004, 11:30 AM
I hope that it wouldn't be Marie...

I think:

Seles,
Anna K.,
Coetzer.

At the end of the season big possibility for: Maleeva, Frazier, Callens.

I don't think Farina and Martinez will retire at the end of this season and I don't also think that Martinez is playing for money.

What does it matter if any player is playing just for the money? Why do most of us do any type of job and that is what tennis is to these players? Fortunately for them they probably enjoy their job more than most of us.

Let's face it, I know I would rather have the life of a successful top 20 tennis pro, rather than facing going into the office every day for another day of mundane duties. I say they should milk it while they can, save enough dough so when they retire from tennis they can enjoy the rest of their lives to make up for everything they have sacrificed to be successful.
