Moi?! You´re mistaken....congrats to Maria for a nice win. What more is there to say?! She won two rounds..nice, nice....but that doesn´t mean anything. Winning the tournament....that counts.

I don't know why people are so surprised Maria won so easily. Dementieva couldn't serve her way out of a paper bag. ;)

But Lena... What is going on? :sad:She doesnt want to learn how to serve, just cause she beat Venus at he N-100 she thinks shes a champion. Well this champion is going to lose every first round if she doesnt work on that damn serve of hers.

Story of many people´s live....beat a Williams( without actually ending up winning the tournament) and start thinking you are already there. See Meghann S, Lisa R and now Elena D too.

But this victory is very important and meaningful for Sharapova because it's her very first win against a Top 10 player.

she shouldn't think she is a champion at all, b/c a champion doesn't come out and play the 5th grand slam final the way she did. although she could do nothing really to shake serena's high ridin game she was playing, she stilll didn't need to come out serving like that...oh damn i forgot, she serves like that every single damn match she goes out there to play

By the time Wimbledon comes Elena D. will no longer be in the top 10 maybe not even in the top 15. So i doubt that she'll be going to Athens this summer.

Why does hype alarm you, bandabou? Maria has justified it to a degree. She is way ahead of the other girls her age. People want to see the future stars - just as they did back in 97 with Venus, or in 89 with Monica, etc.. Time will tell if Maria continues to progress and becomes a champion, or has a Hantuchova-like collapse.

From what I've heard and read it's unlikely that she'll follow Hantuchova's path. As for her progress & future titles, yes, time will tell. Things are looking not so bad right now :)

As long as Maria keeps eating, that won't happen.....

Seriously, though, the only thing keeping Maria out of the top 10 is the Age Eligibility Rule. By this time next year, we'll be mentioning her as a serious contender for the Roland Garros title. ;)

well done Masha, I think Elena's serve could improved by going and working at our nearest KFC, and their serving is pathetic!

Serena had been away from the Tour for about 8 months, and you already forget who is the true #1...

I was looking through the rankings and I noted that Sharapova has played 17 tournaments, so I do not understand how the eligibility rule would be holding her back. I thought only 17 or 18 tournaments count toward a ranking?

By the way good win for her.

Great win for MariSha (my pet name for my pet girl)!!!!!

And wtf is going on Alyona? How many more disappointments (losses) will it take before you open your eyes and start working on improving your serve?

I'm telling ya, it's the serve that's been the main culprit in making Elena D so inconsistent with her results. Improve the serve (and the volleying) and she'd be raking up more wins and titles. Miami 2004 is a good enough proof of Elena's hidden potential :)
