Who will win???
Elena Dementieva VS Maria SharapovaBlinX May 10th, 2004, 11:34 PM Who will win??? faboozadoo15 May 10th, 2004, 11:37 PM methinks masha-- for i believe to be her first top 10 win... MrSerenaWilliams May 10th, 2004, 11:38 PM Maria has a complete game. Elena.....she has nice groundies, and she can be very tough to beat when she digs in and fights during matches, but Maria has it all! And I think one of the WTAworld posters said it best when they said, "How can you call someone (Dementieva) a great volleyer when she only comes in to shake hands?" jdog3008 May 10th, 2004, 11:44 PM Maria, don't let me down. :bounce::bounce: Buitenzorg May 10th, 2004, 11:49 PM Sharapova def Dementieva 7-6 6-4 LindsayRocks89 May 10th, 2004, 11:55 PM I think Maria will win, but Elena could suprise us possibly if maria is hitting error after error. jrm May 10th, 2004, 11:55 PM I think Dementieva is still a favourite - maria won today, tough, against a player who was in a bad form entire year. Dementieva pushed Kuznetzova in 3 last week and after i saw Svetlana play believe it must have been some kind of achievement! bandabou May 11th, 2004, 12:01 AM If Elena D can control the df´s, we could actually have a match at our hands here... Chunchun May 11th, 2004, 12:04 AM ELENA FOR SURE!! Don't upset me! :bounce: :bounce: :bounce: :bounce: BK4ever May 11th, 2004, 12:04 AM Maria has a complete game. :haha: That is so WRONG! ys May 11th, 2004, 12:15 AM :haha: That is so WRONG! I agree. Her game is complete in a sense that she has no game to speak of. faboozadoo15 May 11th, 2004, 12:17 AM :haha: That is so WRONG! well, she never slices, so you're right. but she has a big serve, a good forehand and backhand, a good return, and she vollies well. she is more well rounded than people give her credit for. BK4ever May 11th, 2004, 12:30 AM well, she never slices, so you're right. but she has a big serve, a good forehand and backhand, a good return, and she vollies well. she is more well rounded than people give her credit for. Good forehand, good backhand, good return and good volleys does not mean that someone has a complete game... Having game includes knowing how to use your assets...she does not have a complete game, as yet...lets hope she lives up to her potential and develops one. the cat May 11th, 2004, 01:03 AM I think Dementieva will wear down Sharapova 4-6 6-3 6-2 for a comeback win. Elena is a much better athlete than Maria is and is much stronger than Maria is, too. And her physical superiority will play a major role in this match. And Masha has a minor leg injury which is somehting that could hamper her play. But Elena and Masha always seem to play close matches. Even in the Hong Kong exho. Good luck to both girls. croat123 May 11th, 2004, 01:05 AM Dementieva - she pushed Svetlana last week and I think she is a better claycourter. cometz9 May 11th, 2004, 01:07 AM Masha will win :yeah: Stephieva May 11th, 2004, 01:14 AM me hopes lena... it depends on lena's serve... if lena serves good...then lena has confidence and can win... good luck lena...:bounce: just get the damn serve in...plz :) alextreiber04 May 11th, 2004, 01:14 AM I think Masha in two. Lucy May 11th, 2004, 01:17 AM i hope maria will will. i'd like to see her get pass the third round in a tournament for once. this second round match up will be tough, i think. good luck maria. Bероника May 11th, 2004, 01:26 AM I hope Masha! VeraNuVirgosFan May 11th, 2004, 01:43 AM ...But Elena and Masha always seem to play close matches. Even in the Hong Kong exho... The Hong Kong match wasn't at all close! I didn't even have to cheer for Masha because it was very clearly that Masha would win it. VeraNuVirgosFan May 11th, 2004, 01:50 AM ...Her game is complete in a sense that she has no game to speak of. "has no game" but could become a Top 20 player at 16! VeraNuVirgosFan May 11th, 2004, 02:03 AM ...i'd like to see her [Maria] get pass the third round in a tournament for once... Masha has reached Round 4 at two Tier I tournaments, namely Indian Wells and Miami. j_dementieva27 May 11th, 2004, 02:05 AM i think dementieva will make masha run and get her tired dementieva willwin in three sets (at least i hope)... shes a better clay courter than maria goldenlox May 11th, 2004, 02:21 AM http://www.polfoto.dk/Polfoto/Photo/Live/watermarking/AP289794.jpgITALY TENNISPolfoto 10-05-2004 Russia's Maria Sharapova prepares to serve to Ukraine's Tatiana Perebiynis during the women's clay court Italian Open tennis tournament at Rome's Foro Italico, Monday, May 10, 2004. (AP Photo/ Domenico Stinellis) VeNuS#1LoVa May 11th, 2004, 02:25 AM Maria 6-3,1-6,6-4 ys May 11th, 2004, 02:30 AM "has no game" but could become a Top 20 player at 16! Sweety, I am not dissing Masha. I am just saying what I think is true. She is just a whacker of the ball, no tactics, not much of finesse. By her age Anna K. had more than an year-long streak of not losing to anyone ranked outside of Top 15. But Anna was a completely different league in terms of talent. And Masha has a life-long streak of never beating a Top 10 player. mishar May 11th, 2004, 02:37 AM I like finesse as much as the next guy, but it's not required to succeed at tennis. Plenty of the top players have little finesse. Elena Dementieva is not the queen of finesse either. She's a better mover than Sharapova, so she's certainly the favorite on clay. But Sharapova has a better serve and (it seems to me) more mental strength, so I expect her to have the better career in the long run. VeraNuVirgosFan May 11th, 2004, 03:04 AM ...And Masha has a life-long streak of never beating a Top 10 player. "a life-long streak"?! - the year 2003 was only Masha's first full year on the Tour. BlinX May 11th, 2004, 03:12 AM "a life-long streak"?! - the year 2003 was only Masha's first full year on the Tour. agreed VeraNuVirgosFan May 11th, 2004, 03:15 AM ...By her age Anna K. had more than an year-long streak of not losing to anyone ranked outside of Top 15. But Anna was a completely different league in terms of talent... I'm an Anna fan myself so of course I already know how great Anna's on court record is. But I don't think it's reasonable to say that Masha "has no game to speak of". But say whatever you want, because from some of your previous posts I get the feeling that you don't like Masha. SelesFan70 May 11th, 2004, 03:17 AM Dementieva 7-5, 6-3...the Russian ladies are quite competitive and don't like losing to a lower ranked fellow Russian. If Dementieva's shoulder is still suspect...I change my mind and say Sharapova in 3 sets. ;) Havok May 11th, 2004, 03:21 AM Sharapova def Dementieva 6-1, 4-6, 6-2 Je_ne_sais_quoi May 11th, 2004, 03:48 AM Good groundies, good serve, good scream and great body Go Maria! you'll win! the cat May 11th, 2004, 03:57 AM In 2 years I think Maria Sharapova will have one of the five best serves in women's tennis. One of the five best returns of serve in women's tennis. One of the five best ground games in women's tennis. And one of the top five overheads in women's tennis. :D Masha could be a top five player by then. :) ~|Naomi|~ May 11th, 2004, 04:09 AM Sweety, I am not dissing Masha. I am just saying what I think is true. She is just a whacker of the ball, no tactics, not much of finesse. I agree, I like Maria and want to see her develop into a top 10 player. But at the moment she doesn't have an allround game and just whacks whacks and whacks, the top players have worked this out. She played Kim in LA last year pushed Kim to 3 then they played in Luxembourg Kim lost only 3 games, The same happened with Myskina they played at AO three tough sets, then at IW it was all Myskina. She doesn't seem to have a 'B' game plan. VeraNuVirgosFan May 11th, 2004, 04:20 AM ...She played Kim in LA last year pushed Kim to 3 then they played in Luxembourg Kim lost only 3 games. The same happened with Myskina they played at AO three tough sets, then at IW it was all Myskina... You're right about this. Meanwhile, Masha did better against Serena than Dementieva did. And against Capriati - Masha did better than Myskina. WorldWar24 May 11th, 2004, 04:32 AM I don't care who wins, but I have the feeling Dementieva is sucky on red clay. Sharapova isn't great either, but I give her the edge ys May 11th, 2004, 04:52 AM In 2 years I think Maria Sharapova will have one of the five best serves in women's tennis. One of the five best returns of serve in women's tennis. One of the five best ground games in women's tennis. And one of the top five overheads in women's tennis. :D Masha could be a top five player by then. :) If you only remembered what they were saying about Kournikova when she was 16... peanuts May 11th, 2004, 05:17 AM i agree that's the problem with sharapova...she's still very inconsistent...at one tournament she pushes a top 10 player to 3 sets but then at some tournaments she loses in two miserable sets...her game is still one dimensional....which i believed she can improve...with good coaching of course...you can't be a top 5 player just by whacking the life out of the ball...you need to have a game plan..coz definitely at some point in a tourney you'll face a more consistent and stable player than you are... anyways good luck to both players...if dementieva cant get her 1st serves in...sharapova MIGHT win this but i still think dementieva is a better player than sharapova right now ;) Venus Forever May 11th, 2004, 05:27 AM I think this will go the distant, the question is, who will survive. All of you are a very important part of her win today! the cat May 11th, 2004, 09:00 PM Well said Mishar. Of course I remember what was said about Anna when she was 16 and 17. I still have some of the tennis magazine with her features and profiles. I can only hope Maria won't have the same difficulties than Anna has had to deal with. Especially where injuries are concerned. And it's not fair to comapre Masha to Anna because they are different kinds of tennis players. Masha is a big girl and a power player. While Anna was an average size girl with excellent athletic abilty and nice hands at the net. BlinX May 12th, 2004, 12:09 AM Sharapova won 6-1, 6-4 | |
