Poor Sveta, after playing so much still no byes for her.

May 8th, 2004, 03:36 PM
Sveta gets to rest a few days. ASV/Pierce got buried today. So Sveta needed rest.
Molik on clay. That should get Sveta's attention.

May 8th, 2004, 04:05 PM
The Russians are crowded in the bottom half. Elena D vs Maria potential 2nd round looks very interesting! C'mon Elena, time to get going :)

May 8th, 2004, 10:13 PM
9 Russians with direct entry to the main draw, just like Berlin. In Berlin Sveta was the only one to win more than one match.

May 9th, 2004, 12:34 AM
With Tatiana, Vera D., and Alina playing tomorrow, there could be 12 Russians in the main draw. In a 56 player Tier I.

May 9th, 2004, 04:19 AM
hmmmm.... there's a conspiracy somewhere:)... the russians are all bunched together...

May 9th, 2004, 02:05 PM
hmmmm.... there's a conspiracy somewhere:)... the russians are all bunched together...
As always.
I suspect the conspiracy is a big one and goes upto Russia itself. ;)

May 9th, 2004, 02:40 PM
vera d beat bartoli so she is thru

May 9th, 2004, 03:34 PM

May 9th, 2004, 06:15 PM
Interesting team is Dulko/Sharapova.
Both one of the 'hottest' young players on Tour now. Dulko made doubles final lately with Tarabini.
Think Sveta did well not playing doubles. Even in Berlin in last two sets with Mauresmo she was so tired. Now Nastya with Lena. Hope they will do well though Navratilova/Raymond are so tough.

I wish there was Mysikina - Zvonareva match

May 10th, 2004, 12:19 AM
1st of all, lets get the all Rus match ups :)

I'll be pretty disappointed if they didnt take place.
Likhovtseva has the toughest task to make it happen.

glad Sveta isnt playing doubles here.
Doubles for me is an after thought, singles results will always take precedent and are 10 times more important.

only bad thing is Hardly any TV Coverage :(

May 10th, 2004, 12:22 AM
Right before a major, I would like Sveta and Lena to play together. So they have confidence in Paris.
I think if Nadia/Meghann win this, no one will want to play them at Roland Garros.

May 10th, 2004, 01:33 AM
6 Russians are playing singles tomorrow. They all should win. They had better win.

May 10th, 2004, 02:19 PM
Masha, Dinara and Elena B. have already won :)
Godd luck to Vera, Nastya and Sveta :yeah:

In this quarter there are 5 Russians out of 14. Lena B., Lena L., and Dinara won. Nastya and Vera had byes. Now 5 out of 8 still alive in this section are Russian. We should get a semifinalist out of here.

I'm hoping for 1 Rome Russina semifinalist too, GL. But I'll be greedy and hope for 2 Russina semifinalists in Rome! :D

May 11th, 2004, 09:56 PM
Nadia has a chance also. The best chance is for Nastya, Vera, Lena B., Dinara, or Lena L. to take out Schiavone and Schnyder.

Rome 2004 is an opportunity for Petrova to finally win her first WTA title.

May 12th, 2004, 12:43 AM
It's an opportunity for Maria to win her first Tier I.

May 12th, 2004, 03:18 AM
There are two more all Russian matches tomorrow. So at least 3 Russians will be in the third round.
Lena B., Nadia, Sveta, and Vera D. can make it 7 Russians in the third round.

May 12th, 2004, 06:52 PM
There are 5 Russians in the round of 16. Vera plays Lena B., so at least one Russian will be in the quarters.
But Nastya, Elena D., and Nadia are not playing well.

Not only did Nastya, Nadia, and Lena D. lose their first match, all three players who beat them lost badly in the next round.
Only Sveta and Vera reached the quarters. And Vera had a very lucky draw.

Six of the eight matches being played feature at least one Russian. That's pretty impressive, especially considering that a number of Russians eliminated other Russians earlier in the tournament.

May 14th, 2004, 12:13 AM
I'm a big fan of doubles. I would love to see Russians dominate that part of the sport.
