Lena's draw isn't known yet.. but she'll lose in the 1st or 2nd round... whenever she faces anyone decent.

Well Lina it looks like gee-al let you start this thread. She's a very thoughtful girl.

Lina, are you hoping for a Bovina-Sharapova first or second round match in Rome? ;)

Lena is in a good section of the draw -

Zvonareva [8] vs bye
Safina vs Santangelo [WC]
Bovina vs Pisnik
Barna vs Schnyder [11]

Lena played Tina in the 2001 Estoril quarters, a three set win for Lena, who had to play qualifiers.

Lena plays doubles with Dechy. Lena really loves the Russian girls, except as partners -

Bovina/Dechy vs. McShea/Sequera
Peschke/Rittner vs. (5)Black/Callens

Lena plays singles and doubles tomorrow. So if things don't go well, she gets the whole week off for vacation.
Fun in the sun.

Lena plays Schnyder tomorrow. Lena has won 2 of 3, including the KC last year.

I think Lena has a good chance at an upset. But ii will be crucial for her to get off to a good start and put some doubt in Schyder's mind.

Udahci Elena! :bounce:

P.S. - Where is Lina? Her girl is playing well and could have a good week. But Lina might miss it.

Lena plays Vera in the third round. Lena has won 2 of 3, including a 6-2, 6-1 thrashing in the 2003 AO.

May 12th, 2004, 06:00 PM
Lena won the second set 7-6(5), and Patty retired with an arm strain. Now she plays Vera, who is not playing well.
Lena can make the semis here. Beat Vera and Schiavone.

Maria isn't consistent. Losing to Hantuchova 6&1, Nastya 2&1, now beating Lena D.
Sveta has no Hantuchova type losses this year.

yes...i was really surprised to see petrova lost to flavia..i mean this a player who beat serena williams and now she lost to a wildcard :( and there's myskina and dementiava...not to downplay maria's win but based on ranking and seeding alone lenaD could have beaten maria..their match just seemed so one-sided...oh well these russian girls...are they all a head case or what? ;)

Lena can make the semis here. Beat Vera and Schiavone.
So, Patty was injured...

It makes sense now.

Outside of Berlin, Lena has been quite fortunate with her draws this year.

Lena is down 3-6, 0-5. I have to see her play, to see what's going on. We need KC style webcams.
3-6, 0-6. Two wins at a Tier I keeps Lena in the top 30.

6-3 6-0.

These embarassing blowout losses every week do wonders for Lena's confidence.

goldenlox
May 13th, 2004, 02:39 PM
Lena is playing better than Nastya. Everyone but Sveta and Maria is way off form now.

- L i n a -
May 13th, 2004, 02:47 PM
Lena is not playing better than Nastya...

Nastya reached the QF's in Berlin, and lost to a tough Capriati.

Lena has no chance in heck of beating any Top 40 player, who's on her game.

goldenlox
May 13th, 2004, 02:49 PM
Nastya has lost 3 of her last 4 matches. She got 5 games from Capriati, who lost 2&0 next round.
Then she lost to Lena L., who got 4 games from Schiavone.

At least she didn't lose in the second round again. :)
This might not be the case, but 6-3, 6-0 mathces are not always complete washouts.

We're arguing about who's worse. Things are falling around here.
Lena/Dechy are playing doubles now.

Lena has won 7 of her last 12 matches. Nastya and Elena D. have both lost 3 out of their last 4.
Russian tennis is about doubles nowadays.

Badluck Lena in singles :(

Welldone in doubles ... Doubles will give her confidence!! :D

When she played in Sydney with Martinez.. Martinez was always encouraging her more and more and soo was her mum and new coach.

I thought Martinex was perfect for her, they played fine doubles together and Conchita is really a team player!! :)

At least Lena is slightly better than last year. Was lucky Patty retired. Expected win against T. Pisnik. Disappointing score against Vera. On the other hand one can't say the red clay is her best surface.

- L i n a -
May 14th, 2004, 01:47 PM
Well, that's because Lena didn't play the clay season last year... only Strasbourg and Roland Garros.

Lena actually has had many of her best results on clay.

She was probably brought up on clay in Morocco.

KV
May 14th, 2004, 01:54 PM
Know Lena won Warsaw on red clay. Really must say, mean on recent results she's done better on the HC's and Indoors. Yeah, think so too that she's brought up on red clay like Marat/Dinara. But at this moment nor Marat/Dinara's best surface is the red clay. Even consider Vera Z best surface indoor carpet like Dinara. ATM Imo, Sveta's the only Russian player whose best surface is red clay. Just an opinion.

I also think Lena has the game to be in the top 10. But there is something that's not right this year.
Lena's weight, I don't know exactly what's going on. Her coach has to be aware that Lena can play better than these results indicate.

No... quarterfinals of 2002 US Open, and 4th round of 2003 Aussie Open.

My journal isn't supposed to be funny. I'm a very sad person.
