Monster was 3rd fastest in this mornings warm-up after Sato (first driver into th 1.14s) and Michael. ;)

Qualifying session is now running. Jenson just made a costly mistake. :(

Button made a silly error, ran wide....

:banghead: Ralf! 6, 6 and 6! Drive the wheels off tomorrow! :drive:

May 8th, 2004, 06:34 PM
Michael very strong again... If he can hold his place at the start, he should be driving this race on first place from start to finish.

May 8th, 2004, 07:30 PM
Go Michael:bounce:

May 8th, 2004, 10:10 PM
Despite Montoya driving the wheels off his Williams, Michael's Ferrari is too fast. Montoya needs to go on maximum attack off the startline.

Sato  :worship:

Button

GO JPM!!! :drive:

May 9th, 2004, 01:02 AM
Hmmm the first corner could be interesting although Monty's car tends to be a little sluggish off the startline. Saying that, it doesn't mean he won't go for something a little 'special' at the first corner. :p Let's just wait and see! :D

Avid Merrion
May 9th, 2004, 01:35 AM
well Eddie Irvine reckons that JPM should "ram him off" the track  didn't see you try that one yourself Edster! :p
if The Monster read that interview, should make for an interesting 1st corner! :D

May 9th, 2004, 04:25 AM
Sato's 3rd?!!

He'd better do something to keep that place. Getting a pole position in qualifying is useless unless you can do the same thing on racing day, and I reckon Sato hasn't got much of a chance to do that.

If Jenson pulls off a miracle, Barcelona will probably be a Schuey-Button-JPM 1-2-3 again.

go mclaren!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

May 9th, 2004, 11:07 AM
I don't think that Montoya will try to punt Schumi, but I do expect him to drive very aggressively on the first lap. The Ferrari is so fast in race conditions that Montoya needs to get in front of Schumi and hold him up, otherwise the race will be for 2nd and 3rd on the podium. I think that after Imola, Montoya may be willing to risk contact in a slow corner to take the lead. If he can get the racing line into turn 5, he may be able to repeat the move that he put on Ralf through turns 5, 6, and 7 last year. Other than that, I think that the run down to La Caixa is another good place to try to pass. We'll just have to wait and see what happens, but it will surely be exciting.

May 9th, 2004, 02:07 PM

Michael slows down, so Rubens does at the same time

Michael has an Exhaust problem so Ferrari *Coveniently* mess up Rubens last stop

Who said Team Orders didn't exist?

It's so untrue how many errors have happened on the 2nd Ferrari over the last few years

and another thing, how good was Trulli's start?

May 9th, 2004, 03:15 PM
Eurgh. Poor Monty. At least he didn't seem to be in too muh of a mood afterwards. Must have had a good one last night. ;)

May 9th, 2004, 03:18 PM
Michael, Rubens, Jarno :yeah:

Ferrari pitcrew

Williams, your car sux!!! :fiery:

Montoya said that his brakes started going off on lap 3. What a joke . He should be given a car that can challenge the Ferraris, not some piece of junk that is 1 second per lap off the pace.

Oh, and while I'm at it, McLaren  . They are hopefully well on the way towards designing the car for next year. JPM and Kimi don't deserve to have their careers wasted driving bricks with wheels.

May 9th, 2004, 03:21 PM
Something very shifty about the Ferrari incident. I'd be not best pleased if I were Rubens. I mean I'm not trying to take anything away from what Michael did cos he is clearly doing a great job, but they made it a little too obvious that something was going on.

May 9th, 2004, 03:41 PM
Well done Ferrari!!!!!!

May 9th, 2004, 05:13 PM
well done Schumi  :yeah:

Rubens 2nd, but that pitstop cockup :fiery: , somehow i get the feeling it was planned in order to stop him pushing Schumi.

Ferrari 1/2

Colin B
May 9th, 2004, 05:13 PM
Ooops, they did it again! ;)
When will everyone else figure out a way to keep up? Who would have thought, back in March, that quarter of the way into the season, Ferrari's main challenge would be coming from Renault and BAR?

And they say F1 is predictable.

Not quite as obvious as in 2002 when Rubens slowed down to let Michael overtake, though. At that time, Jean Todt said that that they could have been more 'subtle'. Maybe that's what they were trying to do here.

The outcome wouldn't have been much different had Rubens won anyway; Ferrari 1st and 2nd, although Michael said afterwards that they were not sure his faulty exhaust would let the car make it to the finish. But as I said above it's up to everyone else to catch up, not Ferrari to lose form.

May 9th, 2004, 05:43 PM
Exactly Colin B. It says a lot about the other teams if Ferrari can slow down one of his cars without even risking to lose the first two places

May 9th, 2004, 05:50 PM
Well done Ferrari, but can the other teams at least make an effort next time;)

May 11th, 2004, 10:20 AM
 Ferrari 1-2 again !!
:D Truill .... :D points for BAR Honda but not enough.

As Vut has bumped the thread up, I thought I'd share some facts I was reading regarding Michael/Ferrari's victory:

Most of us knew it was Michael's 200th Grand Prix his 75th win and a (record equaling) 5th out of 5 for the season but it was also his 5th pole at Circuit de Catalunya and his 5th win in the event.

Less aesthetically pleasing but equally impressive, it was the 22nd 1-2 victory featuring Michael out of Ferrari's total of 64 (since 1951) - more than 1/3rd!

Michael was as phlegmatic as ever:"It's a lot of nice numbers coming together at once", he said, "but we now look forward to the next one. That's the way our business is".

After the race, it also came to light, how lucky he was to finish at all. His damaged exhaust had caused a lot of damage beneath the car but happily, nothing vital. In Monaco 2000, a damaged exhaust melted part of his suspension, causing a catastrophic failure whilst he was leading.

Next up: Monaco - May 23rd.
