It is not Venus' fault that THEY (got beat) chose not to play in the tournaments that she beat everybody down in.

And also, Venus lost to this player (Svetlana) earlier in the year...and I'd have to admit beating the player who beat you on your best surface and then coming back and beating them on your worst is pretty damn good.

I take my hat off to her for her speedy turn-around.

"haters' is far to broad in this case. One could be a fan of Kuznetsova who otherwise thinks well of Venus and be making excuses.:)

I'm really happy to see Venus back on form and hats off to her for two great back-to-back tournament performances.

At the same time the hypocrisy of some posters is amazing; when Venus and Serena were injured, people were saying that Justine and Kim were not the rightful #1 and #2 whereas they have changed their tune totally now the situation is reversed. Now, Venus is the dominant player, it's not her fault the others are injured, she beat all the opponents she faced etc, etc.

Fortunately, there are only a few real Williams haters on board, the rest are merly fans of other fine players.

But, I can see why the haters feel the way they do because the Williams fans have the best faves in tennis, heck, in all sports! :p :)

WilliamzX2
May 2nd, 2004, 03:14 PM
you are right about that Andy T..only difference for me here though is that Venus and Serena has a winning record over every one in the top ten...so I think that is why some people felt that way....

Congrats to venus on her 2nd title of the year, i think she has had as hard opponents as kim did when she won her tournaments, she didnt have to beat anyone of noticeable achievement-mainly cos they were injured or fell b4 they were due to meet aswel. I am glad Venus is back, all we need now is for the 2 belgians to be back at 100% (aswell as serena and jenn), i dont want to swap them around for the williams, i would prefer it if they all played together. As long as kim's arm and jenn's back hold up in berlin there should be good semi's and a great final  .

I'm sure that the Belgiums appreciate your diehard support, esp. since you're from the Michigan part of Belgium.

That wouldn't happen to be the same place in Belgium where Saginaw, MI, is, is it? You know, Serena's birthplace? Lemme guess, Serena's game bores you, though, or she's too arrogant, or you don't like her father, or she doesn't take tennis seriously enough, or she always has excuses, or she withdraws too much, or. . ..

Shut the fuck up!! Neither of those tourneys were tier 3 in opponents quality. Tier 2 maybe at Charleston, but not tier 3. Have you seen a tier 3 lately??

It shouldn't matter who you beat in a tournament, you won the tournament whether there were top 10 players you were beating there or not, it shouldn't make a difference who you're playing whether it be the number 1 player or number 100 player, you should go out, do your best, and try your hardest to win the title, so its not really a a players fault when top players choose not to play a tournament, or if they're are injured, or lose before they should

To be fair in every sense of the word, this brother is correct. I was even one to say, it's not JUSTINE'S or KIM's fault they are injured, I would take advantage as well. So Now...as a Williams fan, I see some of us can't take the comment when its turned on my beloved Venus.
Who cares what people say or think. I think this is good for her to build more and more confidence. You can't worry about what happens in your draw when it dont pretain you, and that is exactly what Venus has been doing, and Top Tenners have been losing or injured, same case when she was out of the game.

So Hats off to Venus!:bounce: :bounce:

I'm really happy to see Venus back on form and hats off to her for two great back-to-back tournament performances.

At the same time the hypocrisy of some posters is amazing; when Venus and Serena were injured, people were saying that Justine and Kim were not the rightful #1 and #2 whereas they have changed their tune totally now the situation is reversed. Now, Venus is the dominant player, it's not her fault the others are injured, she beat all the opponents she faced etc, etc.
It might have something to do w/Venus' h2h -v- Kim and justine....justine and Kim have yet to prove that they can beat Venus consistantly, a look at Venus' record -v- them will tell you she has no such problem :wavey:

And "negativity" for some, just objective obversations for others. @ you feeling you are an example of maturity. You're smart for not calling names it gets you nowhere. However, maturity is not tied up in whether you call someone stupid or not. Immature is someone who is hell bent on trying to be negative when people are being positive...(does that fit anyone in this thread? :tape: )

Immaturity is going into different threads with the same negativity....opps I think we got a fit. :tape:

And I never pretended I'm more mature than anyone else, I'm just saying I'm a reasonnable, mature person in general.

I am LMAO at all the negative comments about Venus's win. She has been struggling with injuries and is getting back into form. Of course it would be good if all the top players were competing, but a win is a win.

I really think that alot of folks are scared that Venus will become the dominant force and beat their faves leaving them with no more slams.

Anyways, I will continue to laugh at the nonsense, and keep congratulating Venus on playing well and having 2 back 2 back clay court final wins. I would think that even if you dislike her you would still congratulate her because she has not been winning for so long. However, you cannot expect that from folks on this site.

Venus at the Australian Open and Key Biscayne was able to beat easily those kind of players and a lot of people were saying "the real Venus will never come back" and that she would be a long way before she would be at the same level as before. Then suddenly she beats the same kind of players and she's the favourite for the French Open.

Maximus, Kimmie and JHH never dominated Venus and Serena. As stated, that's the difference.

I'm sure that the Belgiums appreciate your diehard support, esp. since you're from the Michigan part of Belgium.

That wouldn't happen to be the same place in Belgium where Saginaw, MI, is, is it? You know, Serena's birthplace? Lemme guess, Serena's game bores you, though, or she's too arrogant, or you don't like her father, or she doesn't take tennis seriously enough, or she always has excuses, or she withdraws too much, or. . ..
1- Well, Venus isn't presently 'dominating' any of the top 5. The whole point was that a player is dominate when they are winning title-after-title on the tour. So Venus is dominating at present with her back to back titles. Henin was dominating the tour last fall by sweeping the hard-court season. Doesn't matter who people face, if you win tourney after tourney, you are dominating.
2- I hope that Justine and all my other faves do appreciate my suppot. And I'm sure they do. Unlike certain fans, most players appreciate their fans from ALL countries, not just their own.
3- Actually I was born in Saginaw, MI like Serena. But why does that mean I should be her fan as opposed to other people? And it's not that I have any particular reason I'm not a serena/venus fan...I think they are very accomplished, deserving champions. It's just that other players appeal to me in a way they don't.

Its so nice to see vee winning again. Its been far to long. I wouldn't exactly go as far as saying she is the most dominating player on clay right now just because she won 2 tournaments on clay. Why not call Loit the most dominating player on clay, she won 2 clay court tournies also, and since most of your agruements about venus beating low ranked players is that a win is a win, well then i guess Loit and Vee share the most dominanting player awards at the moment. Don't get me wrong, im so freaking happy vee is back to her old self and winning again, but i don't think we should be handing out titles like that when she hasn't beaten a top 10 yet(as far as i remember, i could be wrong). And in vee's case it really isn't her fault, she is doing exactly what she needs to do, beat who she is playing. I hope she continues to do this when she faces the top 10ers. So i think we should hold off on calling her the most dominating player until she faces the big girls.
