Russians are everywhere, although it would nice to see one of them actually take the title. Myskina seems to have the best draw IMO.

I hope Elena D can rise to the challenge and do some damage.

I don't like to see Lena B., Lena D., and Sveta so close together. Otherwise the draw looks okay. We could have a Nadia vs. Maria rematch.

May 1st, 2004, 11:20 PM
I think the top half, with Kim and Venus, is tougher. I expect at least 4 Russians in the quarterfinals.

Myskina all the way to the finals!!!!! :worship: :yeah:

Myskina has very good draw. Capriati is not in good shape now and Mauresmo lost to Schiavone in Warsaw, after good match but she was too confident that she'll win and was making some errors. But that showed that if you play good tennis you can win with her, it doesn't have to be something unbelivable. I hope Nastya makes finals.
Pity Vera got so bad draw, if she only was seeded  But she's good on clay, hope she can make some upsets here too

May 2nd, 2004, 03:33 PM
Last year Vera and Lena L. made the quarters in Berlin. And no other Russian got past the second round.
So this is an important tournament for several players to improve their ranking.

The #6 position is up for grabs. Right now it's Petrova's, but she leads Serena by only about 60 points and has 27 to defend. Jennifer Capriati is about 180 points back, with 177 to defend; Elena Dementieva is 200 points back, with nothing to defend; Ai Sugiyama is barely in the equation, about 350 points back with nothing to defend. Capriati and Sugiyama need titles to pass Petrova, and that's if Petrova loses early. Dementieva could pass her with a final. Beyond that, there are just too many possibilities to outline; we have no idea what order these players will end up in.
