It was a decent match and very suspenseful. I remember thinking to myself as it began that Chris would finally get her first title of 1989. She seemed in control, then simply faded. Even when Monica won the second set, I felt certain that Chris would win the match. However, it also became very clear that her trademark patience was wearing thin. As much as she loved clay, I definitely felt that Chris preferred faster surfaces during her last two or three years on the tour. Monica's win confirmed for me that a new star truly had arrived in the women's game. She was the first player since Chris whose game had captivated me, and the only time I really ever rooted against Monica was when she played Chris a few months later in the fourth round of the U.S. Open. Chris steamrolled her, 6-0, 6-2, playing flawless tennis in the process.

Didn't Chris win like 28 matches in a row in Houston before this loss? I'm not sure the exact number, but she had won it many years in a row.

Come back soon Miss Seles!!

Don't worry, K-Lina will win Houston when it comes back in 2019.
