I agree the top half is way stronger than the bottom:o Suarez and Dechy are also in the top half. The top 4 seeds in the bottom half are Mauresmo, Myskina, Dementieva and Capriati compared to Kim, Venus, Nadia and Sugiyama and also Vera in top half:o

Next victim: O'Brien :devil:Report:
"I saw most of Elke vs Vanessa. Wellauer was not playing well at all, and Elke has shown a marked improvement since I last saw her here. She was playing consistently, if not dominating. She wasn't hitting it hard, but was getting it in and played some nice shots. This result was probably due more to Wellauer struggling rather than Elke, but if Elke can play like she did today against Katie she may have a chance. I noticed her serve in particular was great - consistent and placed brilliantly. Having said that, she is no patch on Kim"

Why was the girl struggling? Because of Elke's gameplan??? Because of the name Clijsters?? Because in the circuit you need to win from Elke cause otherwise you better quit? She had a bad day???

"I saw most of Elke vs Vanessa. Wellauer was not playing well at all, and Elke has shown a marked improvement since I last saw her here. She was playing consistently, if not dominating. She wasn't hitting it hard, but was getting it in and played some nice shots. This result was probably due more to Wellauer struggling rather than Elke, but if Elke can play like she did today against Katie she may have a chance. I noticed her serve in particular was great - consistent and placed brilliantly. Having said that, she is no patch on Kim"

That's a bit of a contradicting report. It starts by saying Elke isn't doing anything that flash but ends with saying her serve is placed brilliant:p

but if Elke can play like she did today against Katie she may have a chance.

Now i sense that is a little bit of a biased assumption. Elke is ranked higher than Obrien and Obrien lost round 1 in quallies in Bournemnouth yet Elke who won Bournmouth and is higher ranked may have a chance:rolleyes:

vanessa has played poorly all week, but she has been doing enough to scrape through (exception of her match against Jaslyn when she blew her off the court, lol).

Elke has imporved alot in 12 months, she now seems to actually give a damn, and is even practising. I know, shock horror!! SHe didn't do that here last year! Her boyfirned wasn't here this year, maybe she's kicked him to the kerb and her tennis is better as a result? :p

elke will probably beat katie who is a very streaky player. but if she plays ayassamy in the final then she may have some problems, as she's (elke that is) been playing well, but not brilliantly.

I do see the contradiction in my report ;) But Elke wasn't doing much special - her serve was the exception because she was doing that very well, whilst the rest of her game was stable and consistent (that is why i think she has improved so much).

As for the assumption, well, I thought Katie played a stormer against Bagshaw, maybe i got carried away  so maybe i should have done it the other way around ;)

Oh, and Wimanna, as for Wellauer, well she struggled because she made loads of mistakes, and had a terrible shot selection. Simple as that. I am not observent enough to see whether that was because of Elke or not.

Conclusion: (as well as I should not write reports!!!) Elke could and should win tomorrow against Kozhokina. :)

I wrote my final report  of the final that Elke lost - she had a good week though.

Ekaterina played an absolute stormer today. She played really very well indeed, wasn't much Elke could have done even if she had played better.

Elke was a little nervous at the beginning, was hitting too many forehands long and wide whilst her backhand wasn't threatening Kozhokina at all, but perhaps that wasn't to do with Elke rather than Ekaterina playing so well from the beginning. Ekaterina broke Elke in her opening service game. She was dominating the baseline rallies and they all seemed to end with either a winner or a forced Clijsters mistake. Once Elke had played herself in she wasn't doing badly at all, and it seemed that once she got Kozhokina to move she could then dictate the point, but that didn't happen often enough and Kozhokina was able to dictate the whole set, and never lost another game in it - 6-1.

The second set was a much closer affair. Clijsters was broken in her opening service game to go down 2-0, but fought a lot harder to get back. Another problem that she was having, despite playing reasonably, is that her serve wasn't as varied as it had been earlier this week and Ekaterina was able to guess where it was going a lot of the time, that is why Elke was broken so often. Elke broke back, but was then broken again to trail 3-1 - they then both held serve for 4-2 before Elke broke back to 4-3. The next game had 7 deuces, and was really important. Clijsters had made a few silly errors (a missed smash and a botched dropshot) when she could have taken the game, and looked as though she would lose the game and realistically the match. But Kozhokina made a rare error and Clijsters took the game for 4-4. Kozhokina then dented Elke's confidence by taking an easy service game. Elke served two double faults in a row at 4-5 before fighting back to 30-30, but Kozhokina played two very good points (two forehand winners) to take the match.

The right result, as I said, Kozhokina played a fantastic match, but Elke has shown a lot of improvement in the last year and played like she really wanted to win. Elke looked really disappointed and wanted to get off the court as soon as possible Ekaterina impressed me today, and she looked really delighted at the end, so I was pleased for her. She did a Wimbledon-style curtsie for the crowd and was posing for photographs for Gourevitch .

In short, well done Ekaterina!
