Didn't Mauresmo do it last year to make the italian or was it german open.

I dont think Capriati saved a match point in Paris, 2001. But at Wimbledon that year, Williams was 2 points away before Jen came back to win.

Yeah, that match with Seles really upset Serena. Since then, she has taken every match point VERY seriously.

That match was really the turning-point for Serena....save those two matches against Momo and Juju last year on clay, Serena has been plenty good at closing out people.

You can't say she's been good at closing out people and then say...well almost.

Patty Schnyder def. Serena Williams 2-6 6-4 7-5; 2002 Family Circle Cup Quarter Finals

Serena had a match point at 5-4 in the third set.

Patty hit a cross court backhand passing shot winner on the line on the match point, i was like NOOOO, she missed it, it's over!! but it landed in. :D

Serena was 2 points away in Rome, but didn't hold a MP.

But for Venus it has been a long time.

Maybe in Dubai against Testud in 2002. She lost 6-1 6-7(5) 4-6....did she have any match points????

Or against Maggie in Moscow...she lost 6-2 1-6 6-7(3).

These 2 are her last close losses...but I dunno if she had match points???:p

I was at that match in Manhattan Beach and Monica actually saved SIX match points.

That was amazing... Monica always steps up to the plate down match point and delievers...if only she played like that entire matches.

Monica's play on pressure points has always astonished me. She seems to aim right for the lines and hit harder! :worship:

And yes, Serena has gotten awfully good on the big points too. :)

No, neither Maggie nor Sandrine had match points. I don't recall a match where Venus has ever had mp's and lost. This may have been the first.
