I wish all Russian girls good luck, but especially Alica... It's so important to show a good tennis in your first match on the pro tour. She got a tough opponent. Alica has a similar game to Masha K., who was easily defeated by Kostanic (I think twice).

Mar 9th, 2004, 12:02 AM
Sveta got a bad draw of all Russian girls.

Mar 9th, 2004, 12:08 AM
Myskina-Sharapova - replay of AO qf(?) match... something tells me that Masha will win this time.

Masha K. should get through the first round, but, I don't think she is in position to beat Raymond yet.

Nadia got a good draw. Considering that she's coming back, her first 2 rounds opponents will be beatable. After that she should be ready for Dokic and Shaughnessy (who, I think, will beat Davenport)

Vera Z. shouldn't have problems until her 4th round match against Smashnova who is capable to annoy a dead body, let alone Vera.

Mar 9th, 2004, 12:10 AM
Vera D. is not in the draw?

Mar 9th, 2004, 12:53 AM
Sharapova in a GS QF... good job, Mr. Know-it-all.

Vika has a nasty draw. Reeves has lost of a lot of matches in a row, but can be streaky. Either way, not getting past the 2nd.

Sveta got a horrible draw. I'd be surprised if she gets by Alicia and Chanda.

Nastya, if she plays well, she's in the SF. Nobody there to threaten her.

Nadia... ack, I could see her losing to a steady player like Ruano or Maria.

Vera better get to the QF's.

Mar 9th, 2004, 12:56 AM
No Vera D.
I don't mind that Sveta has a tough draw. She just beat Justine, Venus, Ai, Meghann, and Francesca. She needs to be in these matches.

Mar 9th, 2004, 01:06 AM
I hope Nastya-Maria is on tv, live this time. Some good first round matches - Kirilenko/Kurhajcova, Kapros/Nagyova and Granville/Tanasugarn.
Lena L. has a very good draw.

- L i n a -
Mar 9th, 2004, 01:08 AM
Nastya/Shyperova should be a live night match.

Mar 9th, 2004, 01:11 AM
Sharapova in a GS QF... good job, Mr. Know-it-all.

What do you mean?

Mar 9th, 2004, 01:12 AM
Nastya and Maria met in the third round. Nastya played Kim in the quarters.

Mar 9th, 2004, 01:17 AM
Other good first round matches -

Reeves/Kutuzova, Kleibanova/Kostanic, Leon Garcia/Panova, and Gagliardi/Frazier.

I giggled that tenn_ace, who is a noted jackass that goes on about how he's more intelligent than everyone, doesn't know an obvious fact like that.

Maria got a bad draw. If she could have drawn Paola or Nadia... might have had a chance.

Reeves/Kutuzova should be a win for Vika. Sammy's playing horrible of late.

I hope I'm wrong, but don't think the Russina's coming travelling from far away will play well in Indian Wells. I expect them to be sluggish and tired. And the heat will get to them too.

In tenn_ace's defense, he did have a question mark next to his post baout the Myskina- Sharpova Australian open match because he wasn't sure that it was a quarterfinal match.

Mar 9th, 2004, 01:39 AM
They have a few days to rest. There's no excuse. The Doha final was Saturday morning.
Health issues are real for Nadia and Vera.
We could have Vera-Kim and Nadia-Lindsay in the bottom quarters.
And Nastya-Lisa, Sveta-Justine in the top half.

But GL, didn't Sveta play too much in the Tier II's?

Let's focus for the big tournaments.

Mar 9th, 2004, 01:47 AM
Sveta won the doubles final. So she had energy. I was worried about her getting injured, playing so much.
I am consistent. Sveta should play majors and Tier I's. And be very selective about everything else.

Mar 9th, 2004, 01:49 AM
I guess.

Let's cheer Masha.

Every post towards a Williams fan in GM, and posts in here towards me for simply giving my opinion... and it's obvious that I know much more about tennis than you... so I believe you would be the "idiot".

It's funny that I received 6 positive reps for just telling you off. I see I'm not alone in this opinion of you.

Now, leave.

They can do that at some Tier III.

I want to see the best tennis players in the world.

Not Paola Suarez as the 7th seed.

Mar 10th, 2004, 04:17 AM
Justine, Kim, Lindsay, Nastya, Sveta, Nadia, Vera. This is much stronger than a Tier II.

Mar 10th, 2004, 04:18 AM
So are Nastya and Vera.
Who was Nastya's doubles partner at the Australian Open?

Mar 10th, 2004, 04:21 AM
Nastya and Vera are a team. But not a great one. I was wondering if Vera would stick with her.

Mar 10th, 2004, 04:22 AM
How about the two Marias?
Didn't you or the cat say in November or December 2003 that the 2 Marias should pair up in doubles?

Mar 10th, 2004, 04:26 AM
Masha doesn't team up with Tammy this time.

Maybe now she prefers to team up with Russian players?

Tammy had an injury, and I am not sure if it's completely healed. I guess this is the reason they don't play together. Tammy might not wanna play too much tennis right now.

Mar 10th, 2004, 06:56 AM
Nastya and Vera are a team. But not a great one. I was wondering if Vera would stick with her. They have struggled this year, with two 1R losses in Australia. But the Vera/Nastya combination just seems so logical. I'm not sure if one of them is letting the team down or if they just have a problem meshing together.

I'd like to see them stick together because I think that Nastya is on Vera's wavelength and will be able to keep her focused if the need arises. I kinda get the feeling that Vera would benefit from a lot of positive reinforcement from her playing partner. When her confidence dips, she can get quite erratic. She and Nastya are good friends, so I think that this strengthens their on-court partnership. If/when they fully click, they will be a very powerful team.

If Vera chose not to stick with Nastya, I have no idea who would make a suitable replacement. Vera and Masha seemed to play well together in Memphis, but I can't see them partnering up fulltime because they seem to want different things. I think that a healthy Lena might be a good partner, but that's just me speculating.

And Nastya-Maria should be good. Maria almost got back on serve at 4-2, Nastya serving in the third set in Melbourne.

ESPN will probably only show one match. If it's WTA, I would guess Lindsay-Sprem.
On Saturday, The Tennis Channel is supposed to show IW from 1 PM to 1 AM.

Mar 11th, 2004, 11:40 PM

Last fall she was losing qualies, not seeing the main draw. Now she's top 5 in money won for 2004.
Sveta has become such a huge force in the game. She has to get picked for Fed Cup.

Karatancheva, ranked 282nd, next faces Maria Sharapova of Russia in the third round on Monday. Sharapova is No. 24 and seeded 16th.

"I'm saying I can kick her (butt) off," said Karatancheva, who accused Sharapova of ducking a recent practice match against her at Bollettieri's tennis academy in Florida.

"I was like, `Whatever. I'm going to get you,"' Karatancheva said.

Sharapova, told of the remarks, does some training at the academy but said she wasn't scheduled to play Karatancheva there and really doesn't know much about her.

"I'm sure she's a great young player. There are many right now. But I'm going to wait until Monday. It (Karatancheva's comments) don't bother me at all," said Sharapova, herself only 16.

Bollettieri likes Karatancheva's spirit -- and potential.

"I believe I have another No. 1," he said. "But she's so young now and too boastful."

Bollettieri said Karatancheva plays more of a power game than Seles did, and "she knows no fear."

Mar 14th, 2004, 01:17 AM
I guess Nick wants all his young players to insult older, more accomplished players.
I was wondering when Maria would start getting this stuff.

More news - Kim is out of Indian Wells. Vera has a big shot to be in the semis.

More news - Kim is out of Indian Wells. Vera has a big shot to be in the semis.Kimmie

I hope that Vera doesn't let this chance slip through her fingers.

Mar 14th, 2004, 01:37 AM
If Vera plays like she did in Memphis, it will be tough for anyone in her quarter to stop her.

Mar 14th, 2004, 03:23 AM
goldenlox, thanks a lot for the article.

"But I'm going to wait until Monday. It (Karatancheva's comments) don't bother me at all" - Sharapova.

But like Masha's said: It doesn't bother her at all.

And I'm myself going to wait until Monday (Tuesday morning here) as well.

I really hope Sesil kicks her ass... it would be hilarious.

Mar 14th, 2004, 03:33 AM
I expect Maria to win the match. If a 14 year old wins, she must be a real prodigy.

So am I. Therefore we have nothing to say right now.

March 14, 2004

Q. Nick Bollettieri suggested you got tired in that match. Is that accurate?
MAGUI SERNA: I don't think so. I mean I haven't been playing well for a while. I lost early rounds that I play. I haven't play my best. And today I don't think I play my best at all. I mean, even though I didn't play my best, I had chances.
But, I mean, I'm not with a lot of confidence right now, and I think it shows today on the court. But I think it was more that than the other thing.

Q. So how good is she at 14?
MAGUI SERNA: I mean, she's not bad. I guess, I mean, I was more focusing on my game, and didn't play good at all.

Q. Bollettieri says she's going to be No. 1. What do you think about that? Does she have a No. 1's game?
MAGUI SERNA: I don't think so, in my opinion. She has to improve a lot of things, the serve for starters, and the forehand.

Q. How well does she run?
MAGUI SERNA: I don't think she run that well either. I mean, but I was more like focusing on my game today than on her game.
But obviously she plays good for a 14-year-old, but I don't see her right now as a Top 10.

Q. Can you pinpoint where you started to have trouble? Nick said you were tired, and that was noticeable. But how did you feel about it? At what point did you feel it turning a little bit?
MAGUI SERNA: I mean, as I said before, I mean, the last couple of tournaments I haven't played that well. It's tough when a player lose, you lose confidence. Right now I'm not with my best confidence at the moment.
When that happens, I mean, sometimes you get like more frustrated on your own game and don't realize like the other player. I knew she was doing nothing with my -- every time I play slice to her forehand, the slowest that I play was pretty much the hardest for her to put the ball back into play. She didn't play any down the line. I don't think she even made like a winner with her forehand. It was more with her backhand, but obviously that's her best shot.
I mean, I guess I just got more frustrated with my game. I mean, I think that was the key.

Q. You were within two points of winning the match.

Q. I watched most of the match. It appeared to me that you had turned the match into kind of a clay court match in the second set. You looked like a certain winner. Was that one of your intentions?
MAGUI SERNA: Once I finished the first set, I just realized that me playing slice to her forehand, she wasn't doing anything. She wasn't hitting down the line. She wasn't hitting hard at all. She was hitting the ball to my backhand. I was kind of like waiting for her to change to my forehand, then make her run, play my forehand cross to her backhand. That was basically, I mean, the thing.

The only way for Maria to lose the match to Sesil is to make lots of UE's on her hair bad day. I expect Maria to win in 2 sets.

Mar 14th, 2004, 03:49 AM

Not overly positive. Maria is top 25, at least. I think she wins in two sets also.

Maria will probably win...

But, go Sesil. :)

Mar 14th, 2004, 03:58 AM
I really want to see that match. But it will probably be 2&2.

Vera is on court #8. That's almost the parking lot.
Nadia first on court #2.
Sveta/Lena and double Masha.

- L i n a -
Mar 14th, 2004, 04:47 AM
WTF is Vera doing out there?

Mar 14th, 2004, 04:53 AM
Kim is out. Vera should feel good on any court. But it looks like an insult.

- L i n a -
Mar 14th, 2004, 04:56 AM
I'm guessing Court 8 isn't the worst court since there's doubles on other ones...

But still... Vera is deserving to play on one of the 3 Stadium courts.

Mar 14th, 2004, 04:57 AM
What's new? I guess it just means that less people will get to see Vera put on a tennis clinic

Mar 14th, 2004, 06:08 PM
Vera is on court #8. That's almost the parking lot.

that's still better than #6 or #7...

Mar 14th, 2004, 06:41 PM
Nadia is down 2 breaks against Dulko! wake up, Nadia!

Mar 14th, 2004, 06:54 PM
I don't think Nadia is match tough now. It will be tough for her to come back.

Mar 14th, 2004, 06:58 PM
sadly, but I agree with you... she's a break down in the second set already.

Mar 14th, 2004, 07:02 PM
this is so unlike her: she's losing her serve too easily...

Mar 14th, 2004, 07:24 PM
Nadia, Dani, and Jelena are all out of that section. If only Tatiana could have finished off Gala...

Mar 14th, 2004, 11:45 PM
Mashas on their way to double bagel... to get i.e. :(

Mar 14th, 2004, 11:47 PM
wow.. they just broke from 15-40 down... 1-1 in the second set. now if only they hold a serve.

Mar 14th, 2004, 11:47 PM
They broke to 1-1. They still haven't held serve. I think Maria S. is thinking about Sesil.
And how Maria will bury her.

Mar 14th, 2004, 11:57 PM
Mashas got broken agan (1-2) but broke back again 2-2

Mar 15th, 2004, 12:04 AM
ok broken again after 40-15 lead

- L i n a -
Mar 15th, 2004, 12:05 AM
:cat: mashas :cat

Who are they playing?

Mar 15th, 2004, 12:22 AM
:cat: mashas 0-6, 6-3, 0-0 :cat:

Mar 15th, 2004, 12:42 AM
They were 40-15, 1-2, and were broken. 1-3. Broke back, 2-3

Mar 15th, 2004, 12:50 AM

Mar 15th, 2004, 12:54 AM
2-5.. it's all over

Mar 15th, 2004, 12:54 AM
2-5. They gave it a good try. Maria S. needs a better partner.

Mar 15th, 2004, 12:59 AM
i didn't expect to take a set..
good for them.. :)

Mar 15th, 2004, 01:02 AM
look at that.. they held.. 3-5

Mar 15th, 2004, 01:03 AM
and they have 3 break points

Mar 15th, 2004, 01:05 AM

Mar 15th, 2004, 01:06 AM
Well, I already gave up. Good thing I'm not playing. 5-5!

Mar 15th, 2004, 01:09 AM

Mar 15th, 2004, 01:10 AM
Mashas

Take it to a TB

Mar 15th, 2004, 01:16 AM
Wow, the match is down to a TB

Mar 15th, 2004, 01:17 AM
Amazing. Maria S. is something. I'm impressed. She has a new partner, ranked outside the top 100, and they take #1 to a third set tiebreak.

Mar 15th, 2004, 01:19 AM
how do you know it's masha s that's doing all the work??

Mar 15th, 2004, 01:19 AM
Maria K. has no doubles results. Until this tournament.

Mar 15th, 2004, 01:22 AM
It's too bad that Maria S wasn't amazing in the doubles final in Memphis :o

Mar 15th, 2004, 01:22 AM
that doesn't mean anything :)
what's the score now?? i cant load the scoreboard..

Mar 15th, 2004, 01:25 AM
I was going to start a thread in GM if they won. Very well done anyway, 2:17.
6-0, 3-6, 7-6(4).

Mar 15th, 2004, 01:25 AM
It's over

0-6 6-3 6-7 (4/7)

Nice try :yeah:

Mar 15th, 2004, 01:26 AM
I gave up 2 hours ago. That was fun. I wish I could have seen it.

Mar 15th, 2004, 01:30 AM
I agree... for all we know it could have been Masha K. who was playing well... but a team is a team. I think they both played well in set 2 and 3 if they were able to give such a good fight. (probably the toughest macth for #1 team since they have played Ai/Kim.

Mar 15th, 2004, 01:33 AM
:cat: very well-fought played by mashas :cat:

Mar 15th, 2004, 01:36 AM
For a second at 5-5, I was thinking Sveta/Lena vs. the Marias for the finals. And who plays doubles in the Olympics.
Sveta hasn't beaten this #1 team yet.

Mar 15th, 2004, 02:29 AM
Sveta/Lena on the court now.

Mar 15th, 2004, 02:38 AM
This is a great schedule tomorrow. Nastya, Sveta, Maria, Marat. Awesome stuff.

Mar 15th, 2004, 02:41 AM
Deservedly, ATP gets all Centre court time.

Mar 15th, 2004, 02:45 AM
I agree, but for me, Sveta, Maria, and Marat are the matches I want to see. I'll get Marat.

Sveta/Lena serving 4-2. Now 5-2.

Mar 15th, 2004, 03:11 AM
This is a great schedule tomorrow. Nastya, Sveta, Maria, Marat. Awesome stuff.:wavey: You forgot Vera and Nastya playing doubles

Mar 15th, 2004, 03:23 AM
I don't know who they play yet. I want Nastya focused for Maria. So I will not mind if Martina/Lisa win.
But I want Nastya/Vera to win. I want them in the singles semis more.

Sveta/Lena 6-3, 4-4.

Mar 15th, 2004, 03:32 AM
Sveta/Lena 6-3, 4-6. They were up a break, 3-2, and fell apart.

Mar 15th, 2004, 03:33 AM
Eurosport will show Masha's match :D :)
should be interesting to see what happens after those words.

poor Masha's

Mar 15th, 2004, 04:01 AM
Sveta/Lena in a tough match. 3-3.

Mar 15th, 2004, 04:12 AM
Sveta should be resting before her match against Molik...

Mar 15th, 2004, 04:17 AM
They were up a break in the second. They should have closed it out. Now it's 4-5.
I'm worried about Sveta being off her good form this week. 5-5.

Mar 15th, 2004, 04:22 AM
Yes!! A break! Serve it out ladies. Hold!!

Mar 15th, 2004, 04:27 AM
6-3, 4-6, 7-5. Sveta can work on her serve and volley in doubles, she needs to do more of that in singles.

- L i n a -
Mar 15th, 2004, 04:43 AM
Oh no.

Now, Masha might lose because she is tired after this doubles match.

Mar 15th, 2004, 04:49 AM
Maria runs up and down hills. She has stamina. I can't imagine a 14 year old can beat her. Maria plays too high a level.

- L i n a -
Mar 15th, 2004, 04:54 AM
Maria trains?

I'm willing to bet no other players do that.

Mar 15th, 2004, 07:22 AM
I don't know who they play yet. I want Nastya focused for Maria. So I will not mind if Martina/Lisa win. But I want Nastya/Vera to win. I want them in the singles semis more.(3)Navratilova/Raymond d Asagoe/Jidkova 7-6(5) 4-6 6-4, so Vera and Nastya will play Martina and Lisa. I hope that match doesn't last for a long time and that Nastya and Vera won't be too tired for their singles matches. I want to see Vera in the top 10 as soon as possible, and a good singles result here will greatly boost her chances.

Mar 15th, 2004, 08:38 AM
Maria runs up and down hills. She has stamina. I can't imagine a 14 year old can beat her. Maria plays too high a level.if maria trains by running hills and has great stamina then why did she "run out gas" in memphis?? :p

Mar 15th, 2004, 08:56 AM
Good luck Nastya in singlesa and doubles
:bounce: :bounce: Good luck :worship:
Petrova  Get ready for Miami!! :yeah:

King Aaron
Mar 15th, 2004, 02:44 PM
Team Masha  :tears: but great fight! :D

Mar 15th, 2004, 08:18 PM
Maria is serving for the match for the second time. Then Nastya plays.
Hopefully they will play a classic when they face.

Mar 15th, 2004, 10:35 PM
Will Nastya's foot injury likely result in her withdrawl from the doubles today? It sounds like she might need to rest before her match with Masha.

Mar 15th, 2004, 10:53 PM
Nastya would be crazy to play doubles today. I think she might not play singles tomorrow.
There's a whole year left. Risking a major injury now is not smart.

Mar 16th, 2004, 12:53 AM
Nastya, Maria and Sveta all won today in three sets. Along with Vera, that's four Russians in the round of 16.
Either Nastya or Maria will not make the quarters.

Mar 16th, 2004, 03:11 AM
Nastya is playing doubles now. She must be feeling good.

Mar 16th, 2004, 03:37 AM
Nastya and Vera up 4-1, blister and all.

Mar 16th, 2004, 03:51 AM
Nastya/Vera up 6-2, and a second set break.

Mar 16th, 2004, 04:37 AM
Nastya/Vera won 6-2, 6-4.

Mar 16th, 2004, 05:16 AM
Vera and Nastya :bigclap:

I'm really excited about Vera's prospects in this tournament. She hasn't dropped a set in singles or doubles, and will hopefully be very fresh for her upcoming matches. The draw is playing into her hands and she has a great chance to cause an upset.

Mar 16th, 2004, 06:35 AM
Congrats to the russian gals today for their hard fought wins... :)
If only Marat could have won his will be icing on the cake :(
He should have finished Dickhead off in 2 sets....

Mar 16th, 2004, 10:20 PM
Vera lost to Dechy 2-6, 6-2, 6-2. She still has to mature a lot. Opportunity wasted.

Mar 16th, 2004, 10:29 PM
Just when I thought she's progressed from last year, this happened all credit to Dechy but she isn't an exceptional player. Vera bt. mainly herself.

Mar 16th, 2004, 10:39 PM
Nastya and Maria are playing now. This should be a good one.

Mar 17th, 2004, 12:23 AM
I was wrong about this. Maria only won three games.

Mar 17th, 2004, 02:53 AM
Sveta/Lena win 6-1, 6-1. Now they play Nastya/Vera in the semis.

I see Dechy vs. Zuluaga, and I think what a great opportunity missed by Vera.
I'm crushed at the moment . But being a Vera fan, I have to be prepared for things like this to happen. I was hoping that there wouldn't be a meltdown with the draw open like this, but it happened. Vera won six matches in a row, including one title, which I think is a good achievement. She might have these meltdowns once in awhile, but I hope that they gradually become more infrequent. The main thing is that she learns from this experience so that she can cope better in the future.

Vera has the doubles SF to go, so she still has a chance to shine. Sveta and Elena are a very good team, but I hope that Vera and Nastya can spring an upset.

Vera  :bigclap:

I'm disappointed because at a Tier I, usually you have to beat a top 10, or even top 5, to make the semis. Vera had a dream draw.
But it's just one match, one tournament. After watching her fight against Lisa, I was expecting more of a battle from Vera.
Nastya fought yesterday. Sveta faced two match points.
Vera will have other opportunities.

As long as Vera gets these meltdowns out of her system by the time she makes the final of the French Open, I'll be happy. Her head is the thing that is keeping her out of the SFs and finals of these large tournaments. She would have been better off playing in Acapulco and collecting 120+ points, a title and a trophy than making it to the 4th round of IW.

But of all the Russians, I have the most faith in Vera. I'm putting my money on her to be the first Russian woman to win a GS title because I believe that her game is fundamentally the best. She is still young, so hopefully the mental aspect of her game will soon mature. A fully focused Vera will be a deadly opponent, and I'm just counting down the days until we get to witness her in full effect  .

I saw Flavia play a good match Saturday. Vera could have lost in Mexico. She will never have an easier draw to the semis in a Tier I.
Dechy isn't a bad player. But a top 10 player should beat her.

Vera will have more chances in Tier 1's.

Miami's draw is gonna stink too...

And then Berlin and Rome, where Kim is probably out of both, Justine usually skips one, and I kinda doubt the Williams will be playing them.

Vera beat herself. Tier I didn't beat her. She can meet Dechy in a Tier IV.

I'm just saying it's very possible that Vera could have a draw like this again...

I want to see the players improve. I feel Vera took a step backwards from Memphis.
And I don't know why Maria couldn't win games today. I'm going to read her interview tomorrow.

It may just be that Princess Maria just isn't that good, like Princess Leena has been saying.

Nadia is the only Russian woman playing today, and that's doubles.
I hope Elena, Lena, Dinara, and Lina are ready for Miami.

That's Nadia.

Nastya plays Justine in the evening. And she has doubles. They should play Nastya's singles in the afternoon.

Mar 19th, 2004, 02:59 AM
This is a joke :fiery:

Nastya should have her singles match scheduled before her doubles match.

Is Anastasia Myskina playing a doubles match before her singles semfinals match against Justine Henin? I don't believe it. If this is indeed true it's a travesty!

Mar 19th, 2004, 09:45 PM
I think the doubles match was moved to Saturday.
I saw Dechy play Davenport, and she played very well. I can see how Vera could lose that match. There's nothing to feel bad about. Dechy is playing very well this week.

Mar 20th, 2004, 08:51 AM
Sveta and Lena booked a place in the doubles final by downing Vera and Nastya 6-2 6-0 . It will be a good matchup between the #1 and #2 seeds.

Udachi Sveta and Lena :bounce:

Mar 21st, 2004, 12:13 AM
Sveta/Lena down 1-4.

Mar 21st, 2004, 12:20 AM
Sveta/Lena lost the first set 6-1. Sveta played a singles final the same day she played the doubles final in Dubai and Doha.
I thought Sveta/Lena would play well in this final. This is disappointing.

Mar 21st, 2004, 12:54 AM
Final score 6-1, 6-2. And so ends Indian Wells 2004.

This tournament is not over yet...

I'm sure Princess Masha will be mentioned many times in tomorrow's final.
