These qualifying wild cards are absolute bullshit. They won't give one to a player like Jessica Kirkland, who actually qualified last year, but they'll give one to no-name players who have been retired for at least five years:rolleyes:

Anne Yelsey and Riza Zalameda-They were the top US junior doubles team last year, but they're not singles players. Or at least not nearly as successful as with their doubles. I could understand a main draw WC for them in doubles, but anything for singles is silly.

Christina Fusano. She lost to Amanda Augustus:o Enough said.

Anne Mall-Hasn't played a match in at least 8 years...this is totally out of left field.

Martina Nejedly-ditto. She's been retired since '99 and did nothing during her time on tour. She's the sister of Jana Nejedly, but this is clearly not an Elke/Kim situation.

Brittany Blalock-WHO?!

The only thing I can think of is that there was a top level sectional event where the finalists got a WC into qualifying. Even that doesn't explain two of these choices...

Blalock is a local girl who is highly ranked nationally in the 16s. Yelsey won a national championship last year in the area, lives locally, and has always had a top national ranking. Zalameda is also a top local girl with a high national ranking. I would say the last two are very good and some wildcards should go to promising local players.

LOL, well in the case of Fusano...see Riza and Anne were top junior doubles players and Christina well she won the NCAA doubles title...so if you're going to give it to Riza and Anne you have to give one to Christina ;)
