The younger players are dominating more and more since the AER.

RED = teenagers
BLUE = 20, 21, 22 - Tempering. At 22, their physical maturation is complete. They've got adult muscles, adult coordination and have the match play experience. Besides, there's a pretty definitive age break between Davenport and Mauresmo, so it's convenient.

Check out the last ten years of year end top 10's. The youngsters are doing better and better.

Tennis players are like hothouse flowers. You can force them to maturation quickly, but the result is never as robust. The superior result is achieved by taking time where it's necessary.

I'm all for the rules but they need slight tinkering with.

Plus it makes the Junior game alot more fun, thats never been better either and that is getting stronger and stronger.

2002 will see just Kim Clijsters and Jelena Dokic in top 10 as it currently stands..... and depending when Lindsay comes back.

Amelie Mauresmo will move out of blue zone to be replace by Justine Henin,

There is only likely to be one new top player if any this year cos of the Lindsay factor.

All I can say is, the AER has helped youth dominate tennis. If a young player seems to not be developing under these rules, its a lot more likely a lack of talent than the AER. 99.999% of players never win a GS. Most players neverr win a title, even a Tier V.

Watching Martina, then Venus, then Serena, Then Kim and Justine and Jelena and Amelie snuck in there and we all think every 17 year old should have already won at least Tier I and deserves a place in the top ten. The current period is NOT NORMAL. We need to enjoy this. It'll be quite a while before this many good young players come along at basically the same time.
