at least now i see draw was changed ;)

Feb 18th, 2008, 03:41 PM

now beat Schiavone as you always do!

Feb 18th, 2008, 03:44 PM
Indeed great start Bepa.

Feb 18th, 2008, 05:20 PM
Vera should beat Fran. If she plays like at the USO, Vera can go far here.

Feb 18th, 2008, 07:46 PM
Nice start from Vera :yeah: :)
Hopefully she can make it 6-0 against Schiavone ;)

Feb 18th, 2008, 07:49 PM
Vera plays Fran and doubles tomorrow.

Feb 18th, 2008, 07:52 PM
Bepa :yippee:

Nice comeback

Now, beat Fran like a drum

Good Luck vs Fran today

Hope this Italian victim of "natural grace" will be sent to Hell by Vera today

Vera is in a tough match 26 63 23

Feb 19th, 2008, 03:30 PM
C'MONNNNNN BEPA!! :bounce: :bounce:

Feb 19th, 2008, 03:59 PM
well done Bepa ;) :yeah: :D
too many bps wasted though

Bepa slow start but good fighting :)
26 63 64 win :yeah: :D :)

Feb 19th, 2008, 04:00 PM
Vera. What a match. But the break point conversin was horrible. Under 25%.

Feb 19th, 2008, 04:03 PM
Well done :)

Feb 19th, 2008, 04:12 PM
Vera toughed it out and got the job done. Schiavone is a fighter as well. At one point at 2-3 in the 3rd set, Vera's 1st serve %-age was 36%. She brought that up, and then got that one break right where it was needed. And served it out at love! :)

Well done! :smooch:

Vera and Lucie play the Rodionova sisters Wednesday. Thursday Vera plays Dinara or Yan

Feb 19th, 2008, 07:22 PM
Points won on 1st serve in the 1st set and BP conversion % were :help:, but any win is good at this point :yeah:

Good win in doubles

:woohoo: she already has 2 wins in Doha

Feb 20th, 2008, 02:53 PM
Next up for Vera is Dinara Safina. Time for Bepa to avenge her last 2 losses, especially Charleston where she had to retire at 6-3, 0-1 because of her wrist. :(

Safina is 5-1 in the H2H, but Bepa's doing better this year. A good chance to start evening things up.

GO BEPA!! :bounce:   :bounce:

ps to D86: Dominika upset Patty S. 3 & 4! :D

Feb 20th, 2008, 04:52 PM
Vera/Lucie won 76(5) 76(6) against Rodionova sisters. :yeah: :)

now they could play Williams/Likhovtseva or Chan/Chuang. Tough match either way.

Feb 20th, 2008, 05:05 PM
Vera has a big singles match with Dinara. She refused to shake hands after Dinara beat her in Moscow

Feb 20th, 2008, 05:06 PM
Handshake or not  I suppose if Bepa wins, she will forget about Safina's on court sins :)

Vera wins 7-5 6-3. Finally a win against Safina. Now against Bammer.
Breakspoint conversion is still awful. Only 6 of 20.

Feb 21st, 2008, 03:01 PM
Vera leads Bammer in the H2H 1-0
But that was at Philly '04m and it was 7-6 in the third for bepa.

Li Na is the only player left(that she's played) Vera hasnt beaten. Na and Sharapova are the only ones with a leading H2H against Vera.

Feb 21st, 2008, 03:07 PM
Excellent win, Bepa!! :smooch: :woohoo:

Yes, BP rate is low, but 3/10 in both sets shows she isn't falling apart after missing them. But she is using up a lot of energy doing that.

7-5,6-3 2hr 4min 40sec.

Bepa now has 1082 pts. A win against Bammer will give her another 85.
This could be an interesting turn of events in Doha. Right now Cibulkova is up 6-3, 5-1 on Venus, and Wozniacki is up split sets and 5-2 on AMG. The youngsters are rolling! :D

GO BEPA!! :bounce: :bounce:

Feb 21st, 2008, 03:55 PM
I would rather she played Li than JJ. I remember Aukland.
But Bammer will be tough, a winnable match

Feb 21st, 2008, 04:09 PM
such a great fight by Vera, more than two hours for two sets. :worship:

so proud of her already, no matter what happens next. :)

She saved Mps in her first match against Bammer which was at Philadelphia where she had a great run afterwards beating Capriati 60 61 and reaching the finals. Good old memories. :D

Feb 21st, 2008, 05:07 PM
My theory is that Vera has bad wrists, and time off is very good for her.
I thought she was playing really well at the USO, but had bad luck to be in the top half.
Now she had to take a month off, and here she goes again, with a favorable draw.

Feb 21st, 2008, 05:41 PM
Bepa :hearts: That Auckland wind training helped! be an interesting scrap against Bammer, she can sure play. Bepa doing well to get to all these BP chances, but would be a great help if she could cash in on some more of them! I wonder was there an aftermatch embrace? a hug? a handshake?or did they just turn aside from each other, bristles raised, like a couple of snarley old heading dogs disputing a dead possum?

Feb 21st, 2008, 07:00 PM
I'm soo proud of you Vera :D :D Very good win  :rocker2: Huge congrats :D You finally managed to beat Dina :D :rocker2:

JJ or Li tomorrow

Li leads 2-0 winning in Doha 2 years ago and one year ago in IW after beating Sharapova....

and she is tied 2-2 with JJ

Prefer JJ then ;)

Excellent result

Bagel

Lift for the SF!

Feb 22nd, 2008, 03:00 PM

Either way, I think Vera has a very good chance tomorrow

An excellent comeback from a near bagel in the 1st set, to delivering a bagel in the 3rd!! :D

A very slow start where Vera only took 2 pts off Bammer's serve in the 1st set, to facing no BPs in the 3rd. But a great finish.

She now has 1167 pts for a #22 ranking.

Either Li or Jankovic next.

Not sure what's going on with the points. The point schedule on the current drawsheet is different from what's been there, and differs also from the Notes & Netcords listing. I'm going with the latter.

Rest up, Bepa!! You can win the next round as well!!
GO BEPA!! :bounce: :bounce: :bounce:

Feb 22nd, 2008, 03:33 PM
Well done Bepa! Good luck vs. Na Li or J.J.

Feb 22nd, 2008, 03:34 PM
excellent win and another great comeback :D :yeah: :)
should give her a lot of confidence for the semis either against Li or Jankovic. I'd prefer Jankovic. :p

awesome, Vera :woohoo: win the doubles tonight as well!!! :)

Feb 22nd, 2008, 04:19 PM
She now has 1167 pts for a #22 ranking.

BIG EDIT: I was looking at the wrong #%$@! ranking sheet. Vera's 1167 points now give her a #21 rank as Mauresmo lost a bunch of points.

GO BEPA!! :bounce: :bounce: :bounce:

Feb 22nd, 2008, 08:32 PM
Tomorrow reminds me a little of San Diego 2004. Vera played a long, long match with Anastasia Myskina in an evening SF. They both had mutiple match points. A few minutes after, Vera played a doubles SF that was also was a long 3 setter. It was after midnight when Vera`s evening ended.

A long day tomorrow, I hope Vera wins them both.

Feb 22nd, 2008, 10:45 PM
Well done Vera and please reach to the final at both events ;)

good luck Vera in final ;) :D

Feb 23rd, 2008, 04:58 PM
Vera and Lucie lost the 1st set 57

Feb 23rd, 2008, 05:00 PM
Thanks for the pix, Goldie!

Sharapova beat Radwanska 3 & 4. Big Masha really hasn't had a test since her 2R win over Voskoboeva, except maybe the first half of the first set against Aga.
1R bye
2R 6-4, 4-6, 6-1
3R 2 & 2
QF 0-1
SF 4 & 3
75 games

Bepa, on the other hand:
1R 0 & 3
2R 2-6, 6-3, 6-4
3R 5 & 3
QF 2-6, 6-2, 6-0
SF 3-6, 6-3, 6-3
114 games

Maria should be fresher, but Vera has fought her way out of some tough situations this week. Of course, when it comes to toughness, Masha is hard to surpass. But if Bepa will maintain her focus and level of play, I think she's in a good position to win it. And it's time for her to make a move.

And Vera's playing doubles too. I don't know if that will help or hurt. They're down a set at the moment.

Feb 24th, 2008, 12:03 PM
Vera was down a set and a break, then a break in the 3rd.
She got help from Li, who was sloppy and let Vera win a lot of easy points.
Vera will have to bring her absolute best to win this one.

Feb 24th, 2008, 12:17 PM
"It was a really tough match; I'd played her a few times before and lost, but it was important for me to stay in the match after I lost the first set," Zvonareva said. "Even though I had a few unforced errors, I stayed aggressive and kept her from playing her game. I just kept fighting and in the end it worked out.""I was injured last year too so I was patient and knew I needed to fully recover before coming back on the court," Zvonareva added. "The healing process was fast this time. My first match here was tough - I found it hard to concentrate. But I improved in every match and now I think I'm playing really well. I'm just trying my best every time I go out there. That's the most important thing for me.""We've had some tough matches; I've won a few and have lost a few as well," said Zvonareva on the looming final. "She's a really good, aggressive player. She won the Australian Open this year. She's a fighter, so you've got to concentrate the whole match. If you give her a few errors she takes advantage of it."
"I've been in these situations many times already thankfully, but obviously this is a new match - I have to be ready," Sharapova said. "The last time we played I lost to her and like I said before today's match I don't like losing to the same player twice in a row. So we'll have to see how things go tomorrow."Article here (http://www.sonyericssonwtatour.com/1/newsroom/stories/?ContentID=2070)

Vera must be feeling good because she's not wearing tape on her wrists. :) Zvonareva has alot of game and has beaten Maria before so she enters the final with some real confidence against Maria. It's good that Vera is back and winning matches. If she's healthy she should have a good 2008 and be able to compete with the best.

Feb 24th, 2008, 02:10 PM
Bepa is on court

She has to take the 1st set :o

Feb 24th, 2008, 02:12 PM
She won 3 matches this week down a set.
Vera needs Maria to have an off day. And Vera needs to continue her solid play

Feb 24th, 2008, 02:52 PM
Vera held, then Maria went up 40-0, but Vera broke, 2 df's at 40-40, then Vera held again.

Vera is very composed. If Maria is sloppy, Vera can win this.

Feb 24th, 2008, 03:06 PM
Vera held for a 4th time this set 16 52*

Feb 24th, 2008, 03:18 PM

One set for a Tier I title.

Feb 24th, 2008, 03:20 PM
Great comeback, Vera :yeah:!!! She got lucky to lead 3/0 but since then, she has been playing incredibly well. :D

Sharapova has a history of blowing leads so Vera needs to hang tough and give Masha a chance to crack with her 13 match winning streak on the line.

Feb 24th, 2008, 03:42 PM
It's over. A great week for Vera. And she played some great tennis in set 2.
On to IW where Vera should do well

Vera played well in Doha and will do well in 2008 if she stays healthy. I'm sure losing the final to Maria hurts but I think Vera has a chance to be a factor on the WTA Tour this year.

Feb 24th, 2008, 03:53 PM
Yup. Beautiful 2nd set but shame about the rest.

Great to see Vera doing so well. Lovely game. :yeah:

Hope Vera stays fit for the rest of the season. She could finish the year with a great ranking if she does.

Feb 24th, 2008, 04:14 PM
too bad for Vera  she ran out of steam i guess in 3rd
been a great week for her though :)

Feb 24th, 2008, 04:19 PM
BEPA!! :crying2:  :smooch:
A great week for Vera, but she deserved a better ending than that. :tears:

You cannot start slow against Maria, and you cannot let up. I wonder if she just ran out of steam in the 3rd -- because of all the match play she had (I'm glad she didn't have to play the doubles final before playing Masha), or was she fretting over the close line call GL mentioned?Vera breaks again 16 62!! On her 5th bp, after a close line call went against her. Vera is playing very well.
One set for a Tier I title.Or did she let the opening break of the 3rd set get to her? Clearly, Maria was ready to pounce -- and did.

Vera only won 8 pts in the 3rd set. And Maria gave her no BP opportunities. If she could have repeated her 2nd set performance, it would have been quite a story.

Even so, a great week for Vera, giving her a boost in the rankings and hopefully building her confidence. Good luck at IW!

GO BEPA!!! :bounce: :bounce: :bounce:

Now Vera can rest her wrists for a few days then prepare for IW.
If Vera is healthy, she can do well at IW and Miami, if her draw's okay

"It was a tough one," said Zvonareva. "She started off really well and I didn't really know what to do. She was really aggressive and didn't give me a chance. Then I found my game a little bit better and caused her trouble in the second.
"I think the first game of the third set was an important game on my serve. I lost it and then she took a 3-0 lead and it was really tough to stop her after that."

She can make a YEC run if Vera can stay healthy.

Feb 25th, 2008, 02:12 PM
Bepa
A tremendous week especially after coming back from injury.

Feb 25th, 2008, 02:27 PM
Apparently, the Doha drawsheet after Thursday was correct. Vera got 325 points as runner-up instead of 300. The WTA's point schedule in Notes & Netcords showed 300. All the better. Vera now has 1297 pts in the singles rankings, just 69 pts behind #20 Bammer.

Vera needs a solid performance at IW for the YEC race. Anna C. is right on her heels at 69 pts behind her. Anna is playing Dubai this week, tho she will likely face Safina in 2R.

GO BEPA!! :bounce: :bounce:

Feb 25th, 2008, 05:12 PM

BANGALORE, February 26: Top Russian player and world number 21, Vera Zyonareva, would participate in the Bangalore Open 2008, to be held from March three to nine.

Having lost the finals in three sets at Doha last week to Maria Sharapova, Zyonareva has decided to take short break before she heads to Bangalore for the tournament.

"It has been a great week for me in Doha. Of course I wish I could do better in the finals, but I still have lots of things to work on. But no matter what, I am glad I am improving with every match and it was great to make a final in the first event after I was injured in Australia. I will spend a couple of days in Moscow relaxing and get ready for Bangalore," she said in a statement.

"I am excited about going to India, especially since I have never played there. I will try to play my best there", the Russian player said.

Zyonarava has won five WTA tour singles titles, four WTA tour Doubles titles and two ITF Women's Circuit Singles titles. Her first slam quarter final came at the 2002 French open when she defeated Venus Williams in the fourth round.

She won the US Open women's doubles in 2006 partnering Nathalie Dechy of France. With Andy Ram of Israel as her partner, she won the mixed doubles in the US Open in 2004 and the 2006 Wimbledon mixed doubles.

Vera has a new diary entry on her homepage, but the translation seems a bit .

Hello everyone!
First of all I want to congratulate all of the russian men on last Day of Defender of Fatherland and to wish lucky them in such uneasy action – to defence of the Native land.
Now I am already in Moscow, I trying to rest of tennis though couple of days after fight week in Qatar. Really… I’m not expectув ща myself that I could to play 10 matches in 7 days… but it’s very nice, it’s my first tournament for a very long time, where I could act in singles and doubles and not to retired because the injury.

Even physically I could stand all good, in spite of my not totally treating injury of shank. And my wrist stranded such a work. I want to say thanks to my doctor Bogdanov and all of the doctors and physiotherapists in Dispenser №1 for the help. Hope in a future injures will be less.
The tournament was tough, but I’m a glad that I improved my play from match to match.
Unfortunately, I played in the final not successfully, but I tried how I can. So I’ll have to training much, and I will doing it.
Thank you for your support in guestbook, many pleasant words you sent me… Very nice :)
Probably my next tournament will be Bangalor (India)… I heard about this country very much, but i never was there... So it will be interesting..... The main thing is need to be accurater with water and meal!!!:) and many of us always sick there!!!

See you next time,
Embrace you,

Vera Zvonareva.
BANGALORE: Maria Kirilenko’s early exit hardly put the breaks on the Russian march in the Bangalore Open as Vera Zvonareva, who was in the world’s top 10 (at No. 9) in 2006 and 2007, made her way to the quarterfinals on Thursday beating Agnes Sztamari with her solid baseline game. However, Zvonareva was not too pleased with her win.
“I just did not like the way I went around and constructed my points, it looked pretty laborious for me and I should have hit a little more freely,” said the 24-year-old from Moscow. Zvonareva rued the fact that she put herself under pressure by trying “too hard”. “Missing three break points in the first set at 4-all and losing focus in the tie-break got me into a bit of trouble, but I am glad I came through in the tie-breaker and won the second set easily,” said Zvonareva.
She has won two career Grand Slam mixed doubles titles in 2004 and 2006 besides five career Tour titles and topped the earnings with $3 million in 2007. But just when everything seemed to fall in place, she was hit by a spate of injuries. But she came back making her first Tier I final at Doha, less than 10 days ago and lost to Maria Sharapova in three sets.
“That put the self belief back,” said Zvonareva. Zvonareva said her goal for the current season was to play as many tournaments as possible. “I want to play at least 20 events and stay injury-free. Getting back into the top-10 should happen if I turn in consistent results,” said the Russian.
Zvonareva said she hoped to give her best shot against Venus Williams in the quarterfinals. “I just hope to do my best and I guess I have nothing to lose,” said Zvonareva.
