Yes indeed, it is very

But does it have sense to continue playing with that wrist? It's about a year that she's complaining of her wrists, she took a rest during november and december and the problems remain. Poor Vera, but at least I want to see a 100% fit Vera within a month or 3-4

New diary entry

At home again - 18 April 2007
Hello everyone! Hope all is well!
I arrived at home after 7 weeks in America! Itís very cool!:) So, I am writing in diary first time on Russian language and Russian letters (early Vera write only English letters because she has English keyboard). Yes, I am writing it very slowly, all time click on the English letters. But I will train.
Unfortunately, I have a problem with hand and I retired from the semifinal. On Monday I flied in New York to the specialist of hand and most likely I must to do an operation :( (because of ligamentous disruption) But I Ďm not sure, I want to know more opinions from all specialists all over the world. And after this I make a resolve, what I can doÖ
I will inform you,
See you,
Vera

OMG Poor Vera, I wouldn't have thought that could be so serious. I hope she is not too sad, it is so unfair !. As you said, she was on the way to re-enter the top 10 playing a very smart tennis ... But health is more important than anything, she made the right decision.

Yes, she will start next year aged 24, so she still has at least 5 really good years left in her. Still very sad as she was in such fine form the last 9 months. :awww: I hope she gets her wrist back to 100% with no pain, that is the most important thing right. And she has been playing so well with pain the last few months so hopefully without that pain she will be even better.

I regret to announce my semi-retirement from writing tennis-reports, with immediate effect.

I have just started a new job which means that I will have many fewer hours to pursue my hobbies than I did before, and there is no way that I would be able to sustain the effort currently required to research and write my lengthy reports.

Just as tennis-players don't make it without hard work and sacrifices, so too must I work hard and make sacrifices to progress my career as a computer-scientist.

It pains me greatly to make this decision, but it's something I did foresee when I made my vow for each member of my Eternal Fanship:
>>>
From now on, and until the end of her career (or my life), I will follow her with the same level of dedication as the players of whom I'm already an Eternal Fan, to the maximum extent that my personal circumstances and available resources will allow.
<<<

The maximum extent that my circumstances and resources now allow is the following:

1. I will continue to update the Matchographies on my website.

2. I will continue to update the Biographies on my website at the end of each year.

3. During the French Open, Birmingham, Eastbourne, Wimbledon, Australian Open, and the Olympics, I will follow these tournaments with the same dedication as I did before. But I will not be doing any more extended reports for these tournaments (except the ones that I actually attend).

4. I will follow other tournaments privately, without posting reports. This even includes the US Open, which is not televised on any channels to which I have access, and is therefore not worth demanding two weeks' extra leave for.

France's Nathalie Dechy and Israel's Andy Ram made quite a debut as a team, upsetting defending champions Katarina Srebotnik of Slovenia and Nenad Zimonjic of Serbia 7-5, 6-3 to win the French Open mixed doubles final Thursday.
Ram approached Dechy about pairing up for the tournament because his regular partner, Vera Zvonareva of Russia, is hurt.
Dechy agreed on one condition: that they also play Wimbledon together. Ram said that would be OK - if they did well at Roland Garros.
So now?
''We're going to play Wimbledon in two weeks time,'' Dechy announced after their victory. The partnership might not last long, however.
''Zvonareva has priority,'' Dechy said. ''I think that she will take over from me once her injury has healed.''

Exactly. I dont think it was right cancelling the surgery. She needs to get that problem fixed and now she missed most part of her favourite time of the tennis year (for nothing).
I think Vera knows what she is doing, but I am not sure.

I was prepared to miss her the whole season and now she comes back. Still waiting for an official information.

Last year Vera drew Kim in round 1 Wimbledon, so only 2 points are coming off.

slk45
Jun 12th, 2007, 01:43 AM
True, Vera only loses 2 pts at Wimbledon. Problem is, her Wimbledon points (zero if she doesn't play) will remain for the entire 52 weeks.

Vera loses 120 pts this week at Birmingham. Bartoli is 61 points behind her; if Bartoli makes it to the SF, she will pass Vera.

Vera is still on entry list for Wimby. But will she be there? Can she play? If she does, will it further aggravate her wrist problem? Bepa??? :awww:

New diary entry from Vera. Didnt know she has a brother:shrug: .

Hi everyone. My last entry in the diary was some weeks ago. Each time Iím waited next roentgenograms and next visits to the doctor. One week ago I have a roentgenogram again and as result all was normally. But to play tennis now is very early and in 10 days I hope I will begin trainings slowly Ė 10-15 shoots during the day. The main thing that I didnít hurry up to not get the repeated injury. So it all that I can tell you about my wrist. I have forgotten to say that now IĎm in Tampa (in Florida) where I train in off season period. I arrived 5 days ago and here is very hot. :)And I canít in the afternoon to go to the outside. And also here it is very damp:)
Aaa I forgotten it alsoÖ I was in St-Petersburg (Russia). I dreamed to visit to this city very long, but there are not woman tournaments, and I havenít time to visit here early. About 3 weeks ago at last I was here. Itís very nice place. My brother and the aunt live here. So it was excellent! My brother is the video-operator and he has taken me from to shootings of a clip :)
Still I have seen the white nights and a raised bridges. Yes, and the Chizhik-Pyzhik :) (symbol of St-Petersburg)

I heard that Shamil Tarpischev had a problem with the American visa. It is so pleasant. But now is all right and I wish to ALL RUSSIAN TEAM GOOD LUCK! I shall to be a fan of our girls!
Bye,
See you soon :)

I still don't get this. She didnt have a surgery, right? Why then checking roentgenogram if nothing has changed? She gave her wrist a rest, but was there anything other that was done?

I am afraid that the pain might eventually come again when she plays on a regular basis.

Vera was missing this year a lot, everything is possible in womens tennis at the moment and she could have played an important part in it. She is a better player than Chakvetadze, she is eye to eye to Ivanovic and Jankovic. But she doesnt have the results they have. Thats because of bad luck with draws and injuries. I hope Vera will come back strong and shows what she is made of. :)

My guess is that maybe she had a small/ partial tear of a ligament or tendon, but not a large enough tear to require surgery. And now, with rest and therapy, the tear has healed up. If that's the case, what's needed now is to slowly and carefully re-gain balanced strength in that whole region, not just the wrist but from upper back to hand.

slk45
Jul 20th, 2007, 05:42 AM
There is a mistake in the translation :p
I knew there was some sort of translation problem. :) Alta Vista's Babel Fish translates that line as "This is not very pleasant." Which still doesn't quite seem right, but is much closer to what you would expect.

Why then checking roentgenogram if nothing has changed?

I am afraid that the pain might eventually come again when she plays on a regular basis. I'm guessing that "roentgenogram" is the same thing as "x-ray", is that right? If so, they are checking on the status or progress of recovery, I would imagine. I have the same concern as rrfnpump that the injury might re-occur if rest has been the only recommendation. But, I am not a doctor. Bepa has been seen by specialists, and hopefully they know what they're doing.

It was indeed unfortunate that Vera was unable to play the last few months because of this injury. The road was wide open for her back to the top 10, and she is saddled with these mandatory zeroes from RG & Wimbledon until next year. But if she can recover her form from earlier this year, and come back, say, by New Haven, it shouldn't be too bad.

Get well soon, Bepa!! :bounce: :bounce:

Come on Vera, you've nothing to lose. Reach the third round at US Open is pretty good after a break of 4 months, but maybe you can create the big surprise by beating serena williams :bounce:

Robredo & Fish have been wasting time for the last hour. If USA Network drops this coverage at 4pm for 2 hours of reruns, I will throw something thru the *!#@% TV. :shout: :fiery:

No, they won't do that. Vera's playing Serena....

It's not Vera's best match ever, but I'm so glad to see her healthy and hitting hard.
Vera serves at 45

It's tough to serve against Serena. She returns big.
I'd give Vera an A for today. She had no matches since green clay and it's 46 33

4-6 6-6

This has to go to 3!

BTW, did anyone hear what Bepa said a few games ago?

It was something like " I can feel the..." :scared:

Serena d. Bepa 6-4 7-6(4) :sobbing: :bigcry: :crying2:

Bepa made too many silly errors, but I'm sure that she'll iron them out in the coming tournaments

This was a great comeback

Good tourny for Bepa, I think most people were expecting a 1r loss.

Good fight agaisnt Serena, some good play and peaks of the old Bepa, which will return in a few weeks.

I thought Vera played better as the match went on, and was close to forcing a third set.
It's never good to lose, but Vera should feel good about her first tournament in months.
I like what I saw.

It's encouraging that she managed to handle Serena's pace fairly well

I wonder how her wrists are feeling now...

Good to see Bepa playing well and looking composed, but according to this article in the Daily news, there might have been a little Tsunami following the match :).
Zvonareva, a 27th-seeded 22-year-old from Moscow who made the Open quarterfinals four years ago, correctly read that she had chances to win this match, and knew she had missed a splendid opportunity, particularly by converting just two of seven break points. In a hallway beneath Ashe Stadium minutes after the match, Zvonareva slammed her racket to the ground several times, and wiped away tears.

This reminds me of her reaction after throwing away the 4th round match against Dementieva in 2004 (which included sitting on the floor and :crying2: :o)

She was a break up twice in the second, but got broken straight back each time.

She is looking good though. ;)

She has a week to recover. Vera has to feel good about her singles play. I hope her wrist is okay.
I wish Vera drew into the bottom half. She played good enough to be a real factor there.
