Here is the English diary entry that was posted on Bepa's websiteArrival to Japan - 26 January

Hi everyone!
At last I got an opportunity to access the internet. For the last three weeks I had no chances even to check my e-mail. There are always huge lines in the Players Lounge, especially during the Grand Slams, and in the hotel I usually want just to rest and to do nothing:) So I write you as soon as I can:)
This morning I’ve arrived to Tokyo. The flight took 11 hours with landing in Sydney. Not so long but anyway I consider myself very tired. Perhaps it’s because I’ve got a little illness in Melbourne and the last 4 days I had a strong cough. But I hope I’ll get well as soon as possible!!! I have never played this tournament in Tokyo, so it will be interesting for me to play here for the first time. I like Japan despite I like other Asian countries not very much. I still suffer a little with my wrist, so the last day in Australia I was forced to visit a few doctors and collect some advices. But I hope everything will be fine!!!
Generally, this year I didn’t manage to get out to Melbourne downtown, every day was occupied with practice and matches:( But that’s even good:) Despite of everything I got to the 4th round, last year at Grand Slams I couldn’t get further than the 3rd, so I’m satisfied:) But still I have much to work upon… As usual:) But that is even more interesting:)
Now it’s already 8 p.m. here and I am sleepy, so I’m going to read a little and fall asleep:)
See you soon:) Bye…

Vera lost to Stosur after Auckland, but she can win this.

I agree with GL,I think Bepa lost to Stosur in Sydney above all because she played her just after Auckland. In Tokyo,it is different and I think Vera should win.Stosur made a QF last year, she must be motivated to defend her points tough  Davai Vera! :bigclap: :D Best of luck! :bounce: Kick ass! :bigclap:

I agree with GL,I think Bepa lost to Stosur in Sydney above all because she played her just after Auckland. She lost because she didn't keep the ball deep enough and when she approached the net, it was in a similar way to Roddick's approaches against Fed :help:

From Lena Vesnina's diaryI practise today at Saturday first time, surface also totaly different, I never see it before, but I like it, bounce is fast and low. I played one time with Zvonareva and other practise with Kirilenko and then went to the gym.

Vera's ranking moved up to 21 from 24.
They must be using Aussie $ because they have Vera listed as $113,000 so far this year on the WTAtour website. That sounds high for US $'s.

Bepa had made $15,250 (USD) before the Australian Open, then won $80,060 (AUD) for reaching the 4th round in singles, $31,245 (AUD, divided by two) for reaching the 3rd round in doubles and also some small amount for mixed doubles.

I remember one where Bepa pissed the 1st set and then proceeded to get a beating, and they must have had radio coverage, because Meg was interviewed after the match and said something like : "She was playing really well till the start of the 2nd set, and then she got angry." the interviewer asked "Was She angry at you? and Meg answered "No I don't think so, she just - got angry and from then on she didn't play so well" It was vintage Bepa:lol: I didn't think it was funny at the time! BEPA!! :bigcry:  :smooch:
She had a lapse at the beginning of the 3rd set (after winning the TB!) that she couldn't quite recover from. That should not be the case. She should have been pumped after taking the TB, not collapsing.

I believe that her wrist is definitely causing her problems, tho to be certain you'd have to be able to watch in person. Vera's serve stats have been problematic for some time now.

BEPA....................... 1st ......... 2nd ......... 3rd
Aces........................ 1 ............. 2 ............. 0
DF........................... 2 ............. 1 ............. 1
1st serve................. 47% ......... 66% ......... 59%
1st serve pts............ 75% ......... 71% ......... 69%
2nd serve pts........... 39% ......... 44% ......... 45%
BP.......................... 1/3 ........... 2/6 .......... 1/5

She didn't lose any points this week, and gained 1. She missed making it to the top 20 this week acct Serena winning AO. :(

Maybe she can use the time off to let her wrist recover. Better, to have it treated.

Any news on Bepa's next tournament?

5 / 5 2006 MOSCOW CARPET (I) Q N. PETROVA 7-5 6-1 29 / --

All matches are well remembered by me

First: this huge match when one of Russians to be in GS SF in 2003 It was at the begining of Russian Revolution and was huge success for Russian tennis
Pls both girls had huge wins vs JC and Venus in previous rnds (Still think that matches vs Venus in 2003 and Serena year earlier are one of the best playing Vera on clay) Not the best quality, but Nadia who was recoviring after injury was able to close it

Second: I beleive no one among Vera's fans will never forget this " PHILADELPHIA -VERA ZVONAREVA IS ON FIRE" tournament, where Vera booked ticket to LA for YEC sending by the way JC to retirement

3rd: It was Naida's clay time on WTA and Vera just started to recover after 2005/ begining of 2006 collapse. Nothing to add

Last: Close first set, with Petrova winning main points then easly second

Summirize: in all matches between NAdia and Vera, the winners shows good result on tournament (GS SF, RUP, WIN, RUP)

Nadia looks very tired and out of place I thought that if she had lost first set she would retired She was even cry NE MOGU in Russian But she was managed to fight

As for Vera: She need to learn how to handle with medical time-outs It's part of a game I dislike such timeouts a lo, but in Nadia's case she had no chances to win without it

Still: Vera MUST win main points + smtms on BP she is too passive, not as at score 30-30 or 15-15

I agree that if she had made that smash at breakpoint it could have ended a lot better. Vera would have been more confident and Nadia would feel her medical ailments more. She should have won the first set and then maybe the match. Nadia maybe wouldn't have found her good serve.
But could have, should have, would have... Fact is she didn't win. (Damm it)
Lessons for the future: she needs to take the chances that she gets and play the important points against the topplayers better (game and breakpoints, points during the tie-break) and she needs to be able to deal with irritating things (like medical time-outs, (wrong (at least in Vera's eyes)) line-calling) better. Sounds easy when I write it, if only it was just so easy to learn.

A guy who posts at wtaworld was on the same plane as Vera -

. Vera Zvonareva. She's actually with two others who I do not know. Ok.. ok ... this is nice. Oh darn, I have my Aus Open cap on, so she probably thinks (and she's right) that I know who she is. Ahhh... So what is Vera doing in Sydney hey? Ahhhhh that's right, there's a tournament in Tokyo, could she be on my flight there too? Oh man, she's going to think I'm a stalker, but it's not like I have other options right? So we take the bus, and I then head to my gate as it's already started boarding... So do both of her friends (coach maybe, I don't know really).... but where is Vera? Ahhh she arrives a few minutes later with a few (and I do mean a few) no-customs bags, containing boots, stuffed animals, etc.. I mean seriously? She already had like 12 bags! And what is she going to do with all of that in Tokyo? I mean seriously? Just send it back home? Anyway... I'm no tennis player so I have no idea:)

So we head on the plane... and surprise surprise, she's two rows from me... this is becomming seriously worrying... am I going to have police after me here? As the plane is about to leave, she goes and ask the attendant if she can go in first class to sleep... no can do mam.... So she still manages to change her seat just a little to have more space to sleep.. and she slept for the whole flight, or almost, apart from a few movies, it's not like I was spying... ok, maybe a LITTLE! But barely!:)

Hi there,

Here are articles about Russians Girls generally speaking. A French Journalist of l'Equipe Magazine interviewed Dementieva, Petrova, Myskina, Zvonareva, Krasnoroutskaya, Bovina, Likhovtseva and Safina (this one interviewed by Marat !) in Moscow. They're talking about their debuts on so on and so forth. Here is my translation.
:) Enjoy Vera Zvonareva : Detemined

"To beat Venus Williams this year in Roland Garros is my best souvenir on the Tour. I played on the Central for the first time, against one of the favorites and i've beaten her. It didn't change my life, but i felt the positive of this victory just after, on my confidence. That's exactly the type of victory which indicates you the right way when you're not feeling good while you're practicing. You remember about it, and you fight again. When 'm not good, i think about that match, in particularly about my enthousiasm. That's simple : now i know i can beat anyone on the Tour. I guessed it before, but i still had doubts about it. Not anymore.Until this day, my main souvenir of tennis was a defeat 6/0 6/0 against Nadia Petrova, and it really hurt me for a long time. I Paris, after Williams, i've faced Nadia and she has beaten me again, but in a 3 close sets this time ..."link (http://www.wtaworld.com/showthread.php?p=10078586)

Leaburn asked me to translate it :p, but it will take me some time and I'm not sure if I'll be able to do a proper translation :o

I'd be very grateful if a native speaker could help me

Her plan for this week is to treat throat sore. She injured her back in Belgium. She played in Antwerp for the first time and she liked the tournament. She didnt like the coulor of the court because it was difficult to concentrate as the eyes were tired. She said Belgian chocolate was very delicious and you can eat as much as you can.

At last I have come back home and I have a chance to write you something!!! I don’t know how to begin, for a long time I wasn’t here:-( First I wish to tell, that I have come back home today (18 February) and I will have a rest 5 days most likely! I think, I must to force myself to lie on a sofa all these days and to be bored for a while:-( I ‘m not sure, that I had time something to write here, but I was ill a cold in Australia and cough does not stop till now. I think cough also becomes aggravated, because I was training and playing all time before this. So I want to treat all of this at home :-) It is my plan for this week!!! But I also have damaged a back in Belgium, and I bandage all my back last 4 days, really to play with this pain very hard. So I will treat my back too.
I was first time on the tournament in Antwerp and it was great :) But the courts was lilac colour and it was very hard for my eyes. But, the Belgian chocolate was everywhere. To eat how many you want!!! Very tasty :) But before the matches you can’t to eat a lot of it.:) Still we lived in hotel in the center and there too very much it was pleasant to me, all time it was smell which were on sale through road!
Well I want to sleep, can be we I will be here tomorrow.
See you

"goofball"?? "uneducated"??

Bepa is playing well most of the time. This match is sort of a reverse version of the one against Craybas, in terms of stats anyway.

BEPA....................... 1st ......... 2nd
Aces........................ 2 ............. 0
DF........................... 2 ............. 5
1st serve................. 63% ......... 37%
1st serve pts............ 84% ......... 60%
2nd serve pts........... 36% ......... 47%
BP won.................... 2/4 .......... 4/6

Bepa's got to clean up the inconsistency for her next match. ;)

Vera  :yippee: :hearts:
this does feel just sooooooo good :)

She didnt serve well, was poor in converting BPs and saving BPs, but it still was enough to beat world #1. I agree that Vera can win this tournament, she has to play like she did in that third set ;)

now please a win in doubles and it will be perfect :D

:woohoo:

I knew Sharapova wasn't taking this tournament seriously. She was ripe to be plucked.
Now Vera has to keep going.
No Justine, Amelie, Kim, Williams, no Sharapova lookalikes.

Vera can win this thing.

She didnt serve well, was poor in converting BPs and saving BPs, but it still was enough to beat world #1.So true :o

At 4-6 4-5*, Bepa had converted 3/10 BP chances, while Maria had converted 5/5 :help:

By the end of the match, Bepa had converted 8/18, while Maria had converted 6/9

Bepa was broken at *0-0 and 4-6 *0-0, but managed to have a GP for 5-0* in the 3rd (after coming back from 0-40 :o).

She really stepped up her play after breaking Maria to level the 2nd set at *5-5

This feels very good!

Congrats Vera! I didn't expect a win when you were down 4-6 3-5! A lot of big shots, but still many unforced errors.

Now try to beat Na Li. It will be also a difficult match. Keep going on Vera!!!

That was just a R16 match. Vera still needs 3 wins, starting with Li.

It's too bad that you're putting up a better fight :boxing: than Bepa :o
Thanks for the compliment Epi. I took GL to the woodshed! :smash: ;) But Goldenova was correct about Maria being ripe for the picking and Vera wore down Masha for a huge comeback win. Well done to Vera. Now she needs to take advantage of this great win and win her next match.

And Epri Vera put up a better fight than you thought she was during the match and her fighting spirit took a toll on Masha. ;)

Sharapova Comes Unhinged Against Zvonareva
A new day at the 2007 Pacific Life Open produced yet another surprising upset as top women's seed and defending champion Maria Sharapova fell to fellow Russian Vera Zvonavera in Tuesday's first match on center court. Sharapova appeared comfortably on her way to a quarterfinal berth after earning herself the opportunity to serve for the victory at 6-4, 5-4, but the match quickly spiraled downhill.
"After that I just deflated a little bit," said Sharapova. "I wasn't moving, moving well at all. I missed a lot of first balls. They got returned. And I missed the first ball, and I serve, miss the first ball. That obviously gives your opponent so much confidence. She just started swinging and wasn't making a lot of errors."
The 15th-seeded Zvonareva won the final four games, with Sharapova gift-wrapping the second set with three double-faults alone in the final game. Zvonareva used the momentum to build a 4-0 lead in the third set and allowed Sharapova just one more tally in the match as she defeated the 19-year-old 4-6, 7-5, 6-1.
Sharapova, who was making her first appearance since retiring with a left hamstring last month in the Tokyo semifinals, said: "[i] still felt pretty rusty. It's hard coming to an event when you haven't played a lot and you try to improve with every match. But sometimes you run into someone who's a great competitor, who's had a lot of experience, who plays many tournaments a year. You know, you've got to be ready. You've got to take your chances when you have them."
Zvonareva, an Indian Wells quarterfinalist in 2003, will play China's Na Li for a spot in the final four. Li, the No. 12 seed, ousted seventh seed Jelena Jankovic 6-3, 7-6(1), improving her career record against the Serb to 3-1.
Following her semifinal finish in Sydney earlier this year, Li achieved the highest singles ranking ever held by a Chinese player at No. 16.
Anna Chakvetadze became the third player seeded in the top eight to fall in fourth round action Tuesday, losing to Israeli Shahar Peer 6-4, 7-6(2).

link (http://www.pacificlifeopen.com/1/news/wta7.asp)So Maria got deflated and Bepa started swinging and didn't make a lot of errors? :tape:

Why don't these idiots provide some quotes from the WINNER?

I don't know who is responsible for this crap, but it's pretty pathetic.

The IW website doesn't have the interviews up yet, so I had to go here (http://www.asapsports.com/show_interview.php?id=41722). They've got transcripts of press conferences with Sharapova, Shahar Peer and Na Li.

Where is the transcript of Bepa's press conference? :fiery:

goldenlox, this is for you :pQ. You seem to have a lot of distractions this week. Do you suppose having the Maria Sharapova look-a-likes around was a distraction?
MARIA SHARAPOVA: Oh, Jerry, God, the questions you ask me. I mean, that had nothing do with today's match. I had a lot of sweaty dudes up there and I seemed to win that okay, during the other match. And I didn't have anyone today, so maybe that's why I lost. Gotta hire them next time (laughter). Can you lend me a loan?I'll leave you to comment on it

Oh Epi you are having so much fun with Vera's win over Maria. :D And you should.

By the way it is ridiculous that we read Maria's quotes after the match but not Vera's and she won the match.

Will Maria play her way off the Russian Fed Cup team with this terrible form? ;) It could open up a spot for Vera.

goldenlox
Mar 14th, 2007, 12:45 AM
Maria isn't on the Fed Cup team. She's making herself Olympic eligible.
When the good teams show up, Sharapova will be in the US.
