Seems too early Fililander Sep 18th, 2006, 01:05 PM Unbelievable. Totally unexpted especially after the second set. It seems that she doesnt wanted to play against Mauresmo.   Well this is the old Vera as we know her. :fiery: :( :silly: goldenlox Sep 18th, 2006, 02:16 PM She's still celebrating the USO title TheBoiledEgg Sep 18th, 2006, 02:19 PM back down with a bump :( hope she gets out of this loss quickly dont know why they go all the way there for one hard court tourn before going back indoors :o doesnt make sense at all......... if it was indoors it would. Vera not enjoying smashing racquets anymore :scared:  nick_chicane Sep 18th, 2006, 03:33 PM Not pleased to see her crying again! Not professional at all! Yet, it was a very tough 1st round draw! Sun is very much an up and coming girl with alot of talent and when your playing infront of your home crowd knowing that they'll all be sorting you, its a big boost! It is disappointing but im not totally surprised she lost! Im more angry with those pathetic pics than the actual result! :( pav Sep 18th, 2006, 06:46 PM Bepa :fiery: remembered to pack her tears, remembered to pack her tantrums, remembered to pack a wobbly, but forgot to pack her Sunscreen  Emptiness Sep 18th, 2006, 09:41 PM Vera...... :speakles: slk45 Sep 19th, 2006, 04:04 AM BEPA!! :bigcry:  What happened in your 3rd set? Vera's serving game really deteriorated, with 43% of 1st serves in, and only winning 29% of 2nd serves. Sun's serving wasn't really much better, Vera got 1 more pt in the serves than Sun (13 vs 12). But Sun's return game is what won her the match, taking 71% of Vera's 2nd serves. Sun won 20 pts on her return to Vera's 11 pts. This should not happen. Based on the photos, I have to guess that Vera's emotions got the best of her early in that set, and she couldn't recover. Did anyone see the match? Vera, you won 2 slam finals and 2 tour finals this year. Your confidence in your game should be greater than that. :awww: Come on....regroup now for the doubles. :smooch: GO BEPA!! :bounce: :bounce: Foot's Fingers Sep 19th, 2006, 08:53 AM cry baby cry  hope last time nick_chicane Sep 19th, 2006, 11:27 AM cry baby cry  hope last time Wishful thinking! Fililander Sep 19th, 2006, 01:09 PM The main thing is: She wins second set easily 6-1. And than..... Whats happening? I dont understand that. I think she will remain unchanged and known as a cry baby in the history of tennis sport.  But there is always a little hope in my thoughts. goldenlox Sep 19th, 2006, 02:24 PM Vera still won 2 singles titles and 2 slam titles this summer. I don't want her to be a doubles specialist! :( I mean her doubles results are great and i'm finding that's because there's someone there to talk to her and calm her down where as she can't keep it together all by herself which she desperatly needs to do! Emptiness Sep 21st, 2006, 12:52 AM Yeah. Happy for her doubles results but i'd gladly trade it for singles. Doubles tournaments are not important! I would never want to see Vera become like Bob and Mike Bryan, just a doubles player that cant play on their own!Winning 2 doubles majors is good. And she's won the USO mixed also. That leaves 5 more, plus an Olympics medal in doubles daniela86 Sep 21st, 2006, 08:57 PM That singles result wasn't good, but it's only 1 match Yeah,it was only one match.Vera had some very nice results in single this summer (she had an impressive run at Cincinatti) which shows that she is still a great single player. We shouldn't be down coz she lost a match.Even the best players have awful days.(even if i admit that they don't overreact like Bepa :o )I also don't want Vera to be only a doubles player but I think that doubles can give her confidence so I'm happy she plays it and does well :bounce: nick_chicane Sep 21st, 2006, 09:51 PM Winning 2 doubles majors is good. And she's won the USO mixed also. That leaves 5 more, plus an Olympics medal in doubles Yes, its good! But nothing better than good! Singles is where i want to see Vera do well, i certainly dont want to see her start concentrating on winny doubles titles! That would be a very poor way for Vera's career to turn! Vera Zvonareva (RUS) :speakles: that would be a horrible nightmare coming true (which has happened several times though :o) isabellea Oct 7th, 2006, 08:02 PM You are not really fair play about Vera D. She is not mediocre. But like Vera Z last year, she has not a good year this year but last year she beat Mauresmo, went in final in Eastbourne, she got 36th on WTA ranking. And this year, she was not so far to beat Ivanovic at US Open and she beat Kirilenko a few weeks ago. rrfnpump Oct 8th, 2006, 06:36 AM You are not really fair play about Vera D. She is not mediocre. You fall under category "major Vera D fan", thats why I didnt expect you to agree with me. How would you call a player who has a 19/22 ytd record in singles and is now about to drop out of Top100 after being ranked in the 40's at the beginning of the year... I call it mediocre. But like Vera Z last year, she has not a good year this year but last year she beat Mauresmo, went in final in Eastbourne, she got 36th on WTA ranking. Didnt badly slumping Dechy beat Mauresmo this year in Eastbourne? :o this win over Mauresmo meant nothing as she was already in Wimbledon in her mind. Apart from that, Eastbourne was a complete fluke from Vera D, she has done nothing before and she has done nothing afterwards. It is a bit like Alona Bondarenko winning Luxemburg now. And this year, she was not so far to beat Ivanovic at US Open and she beat Kirilenko a few weeks ago. Beating Kirilenko this year isnt that hard :p Everybody does it, even players who are lower ranked than Vera D like Morigami. Against Ivanovic it might have been a good match by her, cant tell, but she lost it and thats what counts. Again, Vera D had an awesome junior career beating everybody, but as for now she is just a mediocre player. Maybe she can get it going next year and finally raise to her level (which shouldnt be Top30 though with her serve and FH), but as for now, I cant see that happening. Svetlana Kuznetsova, one of this season's hottest players, was the biggest surprise of the day, falling quietly to one of the many other Russians in the draw, Vera Zvonareva. Maria Sharapova and Nadia Petrova managed to advance in straight sets. Kuznetsova, seeded No.3 this week, had been playing arguably the best tennis of the fall season, claiming consecutive titles at Bali and Beijing and reaching the semis last week at Stuttgart. But not only did she look uncomfortable on the brand new Kremlin Cup court surface, she was also up against inspired former Top 10 player Zvonareva, who has had an impressive year herself. Zvonareva went for her shots from start to finish, and never faced a break point during the 61 63 dismantling. "It was an advantage for me to play a match already, as she had a first round bye," said Zvonareva, who was 2-7 lifetime against Kuznetsova coming in. "The court is a bit sticky but I was already used to it. The score may make the match look like it was easy, but to play someone like Svetlana is never easy. We have always had tough matches. I kept going for my shots, and today it worked." Zvonareva's victory over the No.4-ranked Kuznetsova represents the sixth Top 10 victory of her career and first in nearly two years. It is just her second Top 5 victory, having beaten a No.3-ranked Venus Williams at Roland Garros in 2003. The Russian, who has been as high as No.9 herself, is now through to her third Kremlin Cup quarterfinal. She takes doubles as training But on GS it's allowed her to earn money  (GL will be fine with this) so on usual tournaments she is not playing dooubles smts Doubles help Vera in reactio and volleys. It was obvious Vera came to play. But what happened in the 2nd game of the 2nd set that Vera was complaining to the chair about? I don't think it was only that lost game of the 1st set that distracted her. Nadia would not have made it thru a 3rd set. There were 3 or 4 points where she was out of breath after running back and forth. A good tournament for Vera, nonetheless; and a credible performance. She has a net gain of 33 pts. And when i said this is a step in the right direction, i meant in terms of results and ranking positions! goldenlox Oct 13th, 2006, 03:35 PM This was a tough section of the draw, yet Vera is capable of winning these matches slk45 Oct 13th, 2006, 04:43 PM This was not a meltdown. We have seen meltdowns and they are fearsome. Overall, Vera kept control of her emotions. The dramatics were minimal. She just could not regain her focus after the 2nd game of 2nd set. Certainly she tried. But she got too anxious, too much in a hurry at critical points, and an important drop shop went awry. I am more curious as to why she seemed to be on the verge of tears in the first set, I think it was at 5-5. She was still playing well, even more than well. I'm sure she thought she should have won it 6-4, but nothing really happened to that point to be upset about. She had reason to be disgusted when she failed to take it to a tb. But not before. There were times when it seemed Nadia would be the one to fall apart mentally. If Vera could have gotten back in the match in the 2nd set, she would have had it. Petrova retired midway thru her doubles match with a pectoral strain. nick_chicane Oct 13th, 2006, 05:26 PM A real meltdown is vs Dementieva at the US Open in 2004! I stopped crying for a moment and told that morepork the reason, I answered "Because I hate Bepa losing to that F*ckin bitch!!" I think that Zhenya has posted some parts of it already :p Interesting comments :) She'll end the year with Zurich, Linz, and Hasselt Epigone Oct 14th, 2006, 02:39 PM The Zurich draw is out, and despite saying Поеду сначала в Цюрих, Bepa isn't playing  Epigone Oct 14th, 2006, 03:16 PM From Nadia's wtatour.com blogI won my quarterfinal match with Vera Zvonareva today. I'm very happy with the way I finished off. At the beginning, neither of us were taking our opportunities on each other's serve. We were holding pretty well; I was trying to do something with my returns, but she was dictating so well. It was like this until 5-all in the first set. I knew I had to stand more along the baseline and move in when I had the chance. That helped me win the first set, and I kept on doing it in the second. As soon as I saw her out of position, I'd step in and end the point. slk45 Oct 14th, 2006, 03:27 PM She was probably too late to get an entry. Most likely she's on a next in list. Vera seems to have a habit of that lately. Blackwell Oct 14th, 2006, 04:23 PM HI !! ALL ! Vera’s exclusive interview for the our website (in russian) !! ALL ! Vera’s exclusive interview for the our website (in russian) !! Enjoy (8:34, 80 MB)Thank you :worship:Sometimes people ask me – why can’t you win at Grand Slam by yourself while you are able to do it in pair, in a mixed game? I answer them that the victory is victory and it doesn’t matter what kind of victory it is.- What kind of tennis do you like the most: mixed, pair game or single game? - Of course, I enjoy playing single game contests, because it’s the main type of tennis. Mixed is very interesting to play, it’s very hard for me though, but I like it very much. And as for a pair game, I can talk to my partner about anything, sometimes we don’t think about anything, just talk, and then – bang! – we’re in the final round (laughs). (though not with Meilen :tape: )- You have changed your racket, your clothing sponsor, your website. Did you decide to change your tennis life fundamentally? - The first thing I’ve changed was my uniform, my contract with Adidas expired, and this company had wished to sign a new contract with me for a long time. I have changed my racket because of the problems with my shoulder – I just couldn’t play with the same racket last half of the year. Now it’s better with my shoulder, but now I feel some pain in my hand (Vera had an ice compress on her left hand during the interview). I’ve changed my coach because Lex couldn’t visit all the tournaments with me, he has his own tennis club in the USA, and Sam is very experienced, and a very nice person on the whole. We met each other in December, he now works with three girls – Elena Likhovtseva, Melien Tu and me. We are a very friendly team and we feel well by each other’s side.Interesting...- Are you friends with some other sport games players? - During my coaching in Washington I got acquainted with some hockey players from “Washington Capitals” – Andrew Nikolishin, Sergey Gonchar, Dainus Zubrus. We even performed the general training with a single specialist. But really I don’t communicate with some other players. Though, recently I had a talk with Alina Kabaeva at a presentation of “Slava” sport award. If only I could have been there :crying2:  isabellea Oct 14th, 2006, 07:41 PM http://www.mytennisphotos.com/galerie/albums/photos/USOpen06/Zvonareva/zvo-us310806-70mc.jpg www.mytennisphotos.com daniela86 Oct 15th, 2006, 12:02 AM Thanks for the interview Leaburn :yeah: and   @ the fact that Vera isn't in Zurich MD  . :(.I will miss her next week :( Some pics of Vera in Moscow: http://www.sonyericssonwtatour.com/3/global/photogallery/moscow2/f_32.jpg http://www.sonyericssonwtatour.com/3/global/photogallery/moscow2/f_35.jpg Harju.
