Not pleased to see her crying again! Not professional at all! Yet, it was a very tough 1st round draw! Sun is very much an up and coming girl with alot of talent and when your playing infront of your home crowd knowing that they'll all be sorting you, its a big boost!

It is disappointing but im not totally surprised she lost! Im more angry with those pathetic pics than the actual result! :(

Vera's serving game really deteriorated, with 43% of 1st serves in, and only winning 29% of 2nd serves. Sun's serving wasn't really much better, Vera got 1 more pt in the serves than Sun (13 vs 12). But Sun's return game is what won her the match, taking 71% of Vera's 2nd serves. Sun won 20 pts on her return to Vera's 11 pts. This should not happen.

Based on the photos, I have to guess that Vera's emotions got the best of her early in that set, and she couldn't recover. Did anyone see the match?

Vera, you won 2 slam finals and 2 tour finals this year. Your confidence in your game should be greater than that. :awww:

NO NO NO! I don't want her to be a doubles specialist! :( I mean her doubles results are great and i'm finding that's because there's someone there to talk to her and calm her down where as she can't keep it together all by herself which she desperatly needs to do!

Yeah,it was only one match.Vera had some very nice results in single this summer (she had an impressive run at Cincinatti) which shows that she is still a great single player.We shouldn't be down coz she lost a match.Even the best players have awful days.(even if i admit that they don't overreact like Bepa :o )I also don't want Vera to be only a doubles player but I think that doubles can give her confidence so I'm happy she plays it and does well :bounce:

Vera comes in this week at #28, up 1 due to Little Maria's dropping 170 pts last week. Vera has 1 pt to defend, and needs to reach at least the 2nd round and finish 1 round ahead of Sugiyama in order to pass her.

Sugiyama's path to the 3R looks easier than Vera's, tho Vera should prevail, but first is to deal with Camille Pin.

this win over Mauresmo meant nothing as she was already in Wimbledon in her mind. Apart from that, Eastbourne was a complete fluke from Vera D, she has done nothing before and she has done nothing afterwards. It is a bit like Alona Bondarenko winning Luxemburg now.

Beating Kirilenko this year isnt that hard :p Everybody does it, even players who are lower ranked than Vera D like Morigami. Against Ivanovic it might have been a good match by her, cant tell, but she lost it and thats what counts.

Again, Vera D had an awesome junior career beating everybody, but as for now she is just a mediocre player. Maybe she can get it going next year and finally raise to her level (which shouldnt be Top30 though with her serve and FH), but as for now, I cant see that happening.

One of the commentators at the US Open said the problem comes from the power Vera puts on her backhand when going cross-court.

I'm hoping she'll take a rest after the Kremlin Cup for the balance of the year, and let her wrist heal. Only 1 pt to defend in each of the next 3 weeks, so it wouldn't hurt her much. Of course, the flip side of that is the opportunity to pick up ranking points. But I would think getting the wrist healthy would bring a greater benefit for next year.

Maybe the new Vera will be a force on the WTA Tour. I hope so. I was so impressed when she beat Maria Sharapova at the 2004 Canadian Open. Vera showed power, defense, a strong serve and great desire in that match to upset Maria. That win was no fluke.

I see Sveta is being her usual gracious self, I got a bit pissed with the way she described her win over Bepa at Moscow last year, It was only a matter of her adjusting to the surface and finding her range and from then on it was a piece of piss. and now- "I think it was my worst match this season," Kuznetsova said.



Kuznetsova, ranked No. 4, blamed the carpeted court.



"I just had no time to adjust to this fast surface," she said.

Naughty Sveta!Sveta has days when she can't focus.

She had a great win against Svetlana yesterday so she must be pumped up. She's a really tough competitor, is very solid from the back and is moving great. She can be very, very difficult. I'll try to be more aggressive, put lots of pressure on her, work hard for the important points and try to break her down mentally.

It was obvious Vera came to play. But what happened in the 2nd game of the 2nd set that Vera was complaining to the chair about? I don't think it was only that lost game of the 1st set that distracted her.

Nadia would not have made it thru a 3rd set. There were 3 or 4 points where she was out of breath after running back and forth. A good tournament for Vera, nonetheless; and a credible performance. She has a net gain of 33 pts.
Apparently, Vera is taking next week off.

I think those sorts of things we just gotta get used to! I dont believe she ever will stop it completely! Ive wished she would! I REALLY wish she would but ive kinda come to the conclusion that its just something thats always gonna be with Vera and we just gotta deal with it the best we can!

This was not a meltdown. We have seen meltdowns and they are fearsome.
Overall, Vera kept control of her emotions. The dramatics were minimal. She just could not regain her focus after the 2nd game of 2nd set.

Certainly she tried. But she got too anxious, too much in a hurry at critical points, and an important drop shop went awry.

I am more curious as to why she seemed to be on the verge of tears in the first set, I think it was at 5-5. She was still playing well, even more than well. I'm sure she thought she should have won it 6-4, but nothing really happened to that point to be upset about. She had reason to be disgusted when she failed to take it to a tb. But not before.

There were times when it seemed Nadia would be the one to fall apart mentally. If Vera could have gotten back in the match in the 2nd set, she would have had it. Petrova retired midway thru her doubles match with a pectoral strain. :mad:

A real meltdown is vs Dementieva at the US Open in 2004! I think thats the only occassion you can REALLY call it a meltdown!

I walked across the paddocks to my sister's house to try and watch the match as she had more fast internet time than me(not that it worked properly over there, only in spurts) on the way back I became so upset I slumped against a cabbage tree trunk and started sobbing uncontrollably, a little morepork owl flew down silently and asked "Why are you crying you big ugly bastard?" I stopped crying for a moment and told that morepork the reason, I answered "Because I hate Bepa losing to that F*ckin bitch!!"
As I tried to go to sleep later I could the cry of Morepork(or Boobook as certain Aussies would call it) as it hunted near the house, and I drifted off hoping it was the same one who heard my nasty confession earlier.

В среду 11 октября на Кубке Кремля состоялась очередная «русская дуэль». В рамках второго круга встречались Светлана Кузнецова и Вера Звонарева. Но ожидаемой борьбы не получилось. Вера практически в «одну калитку» за час обыграла соотечественницу - 6:1, 6:3. Как передает из спорткомплекса «Олимпийский» корреспондент РТР-Спорт.Ru, 4-я ракетка соревнований так объяснила свое поражение:
- Тяжело играть несколько недель подряд. Накапливается усталость. Видимо, на этот момент и пришелся сегодняшний матч. Это покрытие значительно отличается от последнего турнира в Штутгарте. В какой-то степени, я сама виновата, что мало готовилась на этом корте. К тому же Вера сегодня играла хорошо. Чувствовалось, что она лучше здесь освоилась. Быстро передвигалась, а я не успевала за ней.
- Что у вас еще запланировано до конца сезона?
- Я еще хочу сыграть в Цюрихе, а потом пару недель буду готовиться к итоговому турниру в Мадриде. Но я еще пока буду тут. У меня еще матчи в парном разряде. В целом, я довольна годом, но могу играть еще лучше. Сегодняшняя игра, наверное, была худшей в сезоне.
Вера Звонарева подтвердила, что она выглядела в этом матче лучше соперницы:
- Несмотря на счет, победа не была для меня легкой. Света очень хороший игрок. Я уже сыграла здесь матч и больше приспособилась к этому покрытию. Отскок здесь необычный. Мяч подлетает где-то выше, а где-то ниже. Нужно просто быть к этому готовой.
- С кем из соперниц - Лиховцевой или Петровой, вы бы хотели сыграть в четвертьфинале? Тяжело ли вам вообще играть с соотечественницами?
- Это раньше «русские дуэли» были особенными. Теперь же нас в Туре столько, что такие матчи становятся обычными. Главное, не встречаться между собой на ранних стадиях соревнований. А вообще, я рада, что мне доведется еще один раз выступить на центральном корте перед своей публикой. Кто же конкретно мне достанется - не так уж и важно.
- У вас значительно улучшилась физическая форма. В чем причина?
- Не знаю. Ничего специального я не делаю. С начала этого года я тренируюсь у того, же тренера, у которого также занимаются Мэйлен Ту и Елена Лиховцева. Он француз.
- Планируете ли вы выступать в будущем сезоне за сборную?
- За свою страну играть всегда престижно. Главное, чтобы игроков предупреждали заранее, чтобы они подгадывали свои личные планы под интересы сборной. Например, мы до 15 октября уже должны сдать в WTA график своих турниров на первое полугодие 2007 года.
- В таком случае разговаривали ли с вами на Кубке Кремля представители Федерации тенниса России?
- Да. Они нас пока опрашивают. Но дело в том, что все готовы играть, а нас слишком много - человек 12. Поэтому выбрать им сложно.
- Ваши планы на остаток года.
- Поеду сначала в Цюрих, потом будет еще один турнир в Австрии и один - в Бельгии, после чего отдохну и буду потихоньку готовиться во Флориде к следующему сезону.
- Какой результат был бы для вас хорошим на нынешнем Кубке Кремля?
- Если я смогу получать удовольствие от своей игры, то это будет лучшим результатом.
- В таком случае, вспомните проигранный вами матч, от которого вы получили удовольствие.
- Да. Была такая игра. Однажды мы сцепились с Настей Мыскиной. Никто не хотел проигрывать. В итоге мы провели в третьей партии самый длинный тай-брейк за всю историю WTA-тура.Interesting comments :)

From Nadia's wtatour.com blogI won my quarterfinal match with Vera Zvonareva today. I'm very happy with the way I finished off. At the beginning, neither of us were taking our opportunities on each other's serve. We were holding pretty well; I was trying to do something with my returns, but she was dictating so well. It was like this until 5-all in the first set. I knew I had to stand more along the baseline and move in when I had the chance. That helped me win the first set, and I kept on doing it in the second. As soon as I saw her out of position, I'd step in and end the point.

She was probably too late to get an entry. Most likely she's on a next in list.
Vera seems to have a habit of that lately. :scratch:

I answer them that the victory is victory and it doesn’t matter what kind of victory it is.- What kind of tennis do you like the most: mixed, pair game or single game?
- Of course, I enjoy playing single game contests, because it’s the main type of tennis. Mixed is very interesting to play, it’s very hard for me though, but I like it very much. And as for a pair game, I can talk to my partner about anything, sometimes we don’t think about anything, just talk, and then – bang! – we’re in the final round (laughs).:lol: (though not with Meilen :tape: )- You have changed your racket, your clothing sponsor, your website. Did you decide to change your tennis life fundamentally? - The first thing I’ve changed was my uniform, my contract with Adidas expired, and this company had wished to sign a new contract with me for a long time. I have changed my racket because of the problems with my shoulder – I just couldn’t play with the same racket last half of the year. Now it’s better with my shoulder, but now I feel some pain in my hand (Vera had an ice compress on her left hand during the interview). I’ve changed my coach because Lex couldn’t visit all the tournaments with me, he has his own tennis club in the USA, and Sam is very experienced, and a very nice person on the whole. We met each other in December, he now works with three girls – Elena Likhovtseva, Melien Tu and me. We are a very friendly team and we feel well by each other’s side.Interesting...- Are you friends with some other sport games players?
- During my coaching in Washington I got acquainted with some hockey players from “Washington Capitals” – Andrew Nikolishin, Sergey Gonchar, Dainus Zubrus. We even performed the general training with a single specialist. But really I don’t communicate with some other players. Though, recently I had a talk with Alina Kabaeva at a presentation of “Slava” sport award.If only I could have been there :crying2: :angel:
