But a good win. A saw the last game from this match. I think that she needs to be more aggresive, and take the ball earlier against venus. Also she has to try not to use the moonball, as Venus will just use the drive volley to put it away.

Venus is not playing nearly as well as Serena. And Venus did not have the proper preperation for the French Open. And that's to Vera's advantage. I really think Vera can win a close match from Venus. Venus is not in top form and Vera needs to take advsantage of that.

Vera Zvonareva is the best fighter of the Russian tennis players. And she's going to need to fight for a win against Venus in the round of 16. And I think she can do it.

If Vera indeed withdrew from Ordina, then I must say that she got the best management of all Russian girls. It is simply unbelieavable. She win Bol, has great tournament in Berlin. And next thing we know - she withdraws from Rome. From Rome! Would you expect Dementieva or Kournikova or Myskina , leave alone Likhovtseva do that? No way. And now she goes deep into RG draw, goes deep into Vienna draw,and the next thing we know - she takes a week off. I am pleasantly surprised as how wise those people are..

I'm not sure, I think Vera could win, she was returning Iris serve well, which I thought was good preparation for tommorow.

The only problem could be the movement, Iri is not that good a mover around the court, and Venus was from todays performance. I think Venus will win, but I really really want Vera to pull through, she can make it, if she plays 100 %

This is a very important test for Vera. I do not expect to win. But what I really want to see is her playing her normal game regardless the score, playing her best, not being crushed like a bug, the way Venus crushed Nadya, and possibly making it close. That would be OK with me. She earned a lot of respect by beating Venus at French, even if she loses, she has to show that it was not a fluke.

Vera played well, just Venus is too good at the momment. Vera could just as easily won the first set 6-1!

It was a very close match, most games going to 30-30 or duece. Venus just had an incredible serve to save break points, and the second set was very close at 3-2 til Vera broke down :sad:

To be honest, I am not realy upset about this loss. Vera performed at this tournament above our expectations, making the 4th round and losing to Venus in a match where she did all she could is nothing to be ashamed of.

ys..i totally feel the same!! I'm not ashamed of Vera at all! She gave Venus a hell of a fight in the 2nd set when she went from 0-2 to 3-2! I was so proud to be her fan..she really gave it her all, and she fought all the way through! :D

Vera has spent the past week with the Philadelphia Freedoms of World Team Tennis.
This exhibition league wants big American stars like Kournikova ( who Americans are in love with ), Agassi, and Roddick.
Top players like Vera and Nastya, who are not considered "draws", don't get the respect they deserve, and have earned.
I've seen from the articles that Vera's results have gotten worse as the week as gone on.
I can't see how playing WTT is helping Vera or Nastya.

Maybe she just underestimated Suarez (as I'm sure many of us did :o)

Suarez was always going to be a tough match, but Vera had beaten her twice on clay.

The only way Vera could have lost, really, is with a mental breakdown. She thought too much about the opportunity she had, and when it got tough, she didn't fight, she lost it. She had become one of the best fighters on Tour this year, but when the gain became too great she reverted. :mad:

I've been without electricity for just over 24 hours. So I haven't been able to follow what's going on.
But this result doesn't shock me because Vera hadn't played since Fed Cup. And her opponents were playing poorly from what I've read.
So Suarez put up a tough fight and Vera isn't match tough right now.
But I still expect great things from Vera.

this is an unfortunate loss. dissapointing yes but more unfortunate imo. vera was the higher ranked player but suarez has been playing great all year and made 3 upsets already in this tournament (if you consider hantuchova an upset). suarez was always going to be tough.

vera played schett then washington then doikc and suarez. so she certainly wasn't match tough because her opponents were either not playing well or in washingtons case isn't really up to this level.

vera could have been in the semis and she had a golden chance to reach the final. better luck next time vera. hopefully by the us open her game will be worked out.

Vera still has some slim chance to play in LA. She just needs to have a couple of good tournaments. Losing to Chanda was relly a wated chance.

Chanda's loss makes Vera's chances better. She must make at least semis in Zurich though to keep her chances alive. Not that she is not capable of that. But she needs to beat Meghann first.

Well done, Vera, done the hard way, but still done. Tennis is binary, winning 201:199 in the third set tiebreaker is as good as double bagel. Next match is against a worse version of Meghann Shaugnessy, should not be that close.

Vera beat Meghann 6-0, 4-6, 7-6(3). Next is Amy Frazier, then Justine.
Actually, a good sign that Vera didn't lose focus totally and wound up winning.
Still, bottom line is that Vera is better than this. When will we see it.
