TheBoiledEgg May 31st, 2003, 10:50 AM well done Vera :D :bounce: :) good luck in QF tomorrow vs Venus (likely) go Vera go !!!!!!!!!!! vaiva May 31st, 2003, 12:01 PM Good win Vera :bounce: Now get ready for Venus and go one step further :D Dava May 31st, 2003, 12:14 PM Go Vera thrash Venus. venus is not playing 100% and who knows, a little whipper-snapper like Vera could dethrone queen V. But a good win. A saw the last game from this match. I think that she needs to be more aggresive, and take the ball earlier against venus. Also she has to try not to use the moonball, as Venus will just use the drive volley to put it away. But overall great win from VERA!!!! Roxers May 31st, 2003, 12:15 PM Congrats Vera :D Good Luck against Venus [S@nti] May 31st, 2003, 04:41 PM I saw the match and Maria played great! Vera was doing lots of moonballs but she played ok. She needs to be more agressive. Go Vera!! LeonHart May 31st, 2003, 05:10 PM Yay Vera! :D:bounce: the cat May 31st, 2003, 07:45 PM Venus is not playing nearly as well as Serena. And Venus did not have the proper preperation for the French Open. And that's to Vera's advantage. I really think Vera can win a close match from Venus. Venus is not in top form and Vera needs to take advsantage of that. Vera Zvonareva is the best fighter of the Russian tennis players. And she's going to need to fight for a win against Venus in the round of 16. And I think she can do it. Udachi Vera! :bounce: vaiva Jun 1st, 2003, 05:15 PM Congrats Vera on creating the biggest upset at this year's RG and taking out Venus in 3 sets :) http://www.emotipad.com/emoticons/Mexican%20Wave.gif http://www.emotipad.com/emoticons/Mexican%20Wave.gif http://www.emotipad.com/emoticons/Mexican%20Wave.gif snoop Jun 1st, 2003, 05:47 PM Awesome Vera :worship: What a fantastic win :D :bounce: 2-6 6-2 6-4 :) 2 pics from Strasbourg http://www.urbiaclub.de/fc/131008/album/1054379623LS.jpg http://www.urbiaclub.de/fc/131008/album/1054379608LU.jpg tenn_ace Jun 1st, 2003, 05:51 PM to come back from a set down to win a match! Dava Jun 3rd, 2003, 12:15 PM Vera lost    Im happy for Nadia but sad for Vera also. She just was not aggresive enough and played moonballs all the time. I hope she does well at Vienna and Wimby! King Aaron Jun 3rd, 2003, 03:23 PM Vera :( :(. But great tournament nonetheless. I saw the highlights they have on the rolandgarros site, and MAN do they have long rallies! I wish i could have seen the match on TV! :( King Aaron Jun 4th, 2003, 03:26 PM bad luck today Vera but go for it next yr :) even better and more experience :) good luck for rest of 2003 :) next goal top 15 and not too far away :) good luck on the grass (1st time ever) I thought Vera played on grass before? Jordan. Jun 5th, 2003, 10:33 PM Vera *will* be playing Wimbledon, and most likely will be playing doubles with Ashley Harkleroad in Vienna. :) LeonHart Jun 8th, 2003, 08:46 PM Vera *will* be playing Wimbledon, and most likely will be playing doubles with Ashley Harkleroad in Vienna. :) ooo...great!!! How did Vera and Ashley end up together :D Jordan. Jun 9th, 2003, 01:23 AM I dont know, she just told me she was playing with Ashley, its all good though. :D AKTW Jun 9th, 2003, 04:46 AM Go Vera! I really hope you win your second title together with Alyona! :) :) tenn_ace Jun 9th, 2003, 01:20 PM I thought Vera played on grass before? Vera did play last year Wimbledon where got to the second round (lost to Majoli) Dava Jun 9th, 2003, 01:54 PM Good luck in Vienna Vera!!!! King Aaron Jun 10th, 2003, 02:55 PM Vera did play last year Wimbledon where got to the second round (lost to Majoli) That's what I remembered as well. Hence the question. :) ys Jun 11th, 2003, 03:19 PM Vera wins the second round and is #17 now. Another win will give her a Top 16 seed at W. I am only afraid that they will bump her to seed some stevenson or raymond.. Jordan. Jun 11th, 2003, 03:51 PM OMG, Great :bounce: :D Jordan. Jun 11th, 2003, 03:52 PM not the bumping players up though.... :fiery: bubble Jun 11th, 2003, 04:06 PM Good luck in the next round Vera! :) LeonHart Jun 11th, 2003, 11:01 PM :D Vera!!! Top 16 would be great @ wimbledon! King Aaron Jun 12th, 2003, 02:59 PM Vera wins the second round and is #17 now. Another win will give her a Top 16 seed at W. I am only afraid that they will bump her to seed some stevenson or raymond.. Raymond yes but Stevenson has been pathetic. If they give her a Top 16 seed.....:fiery: Jordan. Jun 12th, 2003, 05:48 PM Vera def. Matevzic 7-5 7-5 Well done.. :) #16 :D ys Jun 13th, 2003, 03:00 AM If Vera indeed withdrew from Ordina, then I must say that she got the best management of all Russian girls. It is simply unbelieavable. She win Bol, has great tournament in Berlin. And next thing we know - she withdraws from Rome. From Rome! Would you expect Dementieva or Kournikova or Myskina , leave alone Likhovtseva do that? No way. And now she goes deep into RG draw, goes deep into Vienna draw, and the next thing we know - she takes a week off. I am pleasantly surprised as how wise those people are.. ys Jun 13th, 2003, 03:05 AM And one little trivia: Which player won the most matches on clay this year? ;) AKTW Jun 13th, 2003, 08:29 AM Go Vera!Revenge!Take the title! :bounce: Jordan. Jun 13th, 2003, 04:31 PM And she loses to Sprem again.. I think shes fatigued from playing about 5 weeks in a row now.. :p Bol, Strasbourg, Roland Garros, and this week's matches. tenn_ace Jun 13th, 2003, 06:10 PM or it is Friday the 13th Dava Jun 13th, 2003, 06:18 PM I think it must be nerves from when they played each other a Junior level, I know Karolina beat her a few times, so maybe this has something to do with it. I just would have thought, that Vera would have learned from last time. I hope Karolina wins the final. LeonHart Jun 13th, 2003, 11:51 PM  Vera...com'on, losing to her TWICE? psshh..:( Vera take a week off, and get ready for wimby!! Dava Jun 16th, 2003, 06:00 PM Vera is seeded 16th for Wimby. I wonder why this is so much higher then her orginal ranking. Dava Jun 16th, 2003, 06:04 PM Sorry I know why I had not seen the new rankings!! LeonHart Jun 22nd, 2003, 01:20 AM Vera has a pretty good draw...Patty in the 3rd round, then Venus/Petrova in the 4th. But I'm still not so sure about how Vera will cope with grass, I guess we'll see in the 1st round :D! Dava Jun 22nd, 2003, 12:35 PM Vera plays tomoz! Yay! This amkes up for them not putting Masha vs Ashley on tomoz! Jordan. Jun 22nd, 2003, 03:41 PM Go Vera!! You can do it! ;) Roxers Jun 22nd, 2003, 03:42 PM Go Vera!!!! Jordan. Jun 23rd, 2003, 07:21 PM Her stats are very good, she must have trained real hard on grass this week. 16 Winners/8 UE 82% 1st serve won/68% 2nd serve won 6 of 10 at net Not bad :D Dava Jun 23rd, 2003, 10:25 PM Great win for Vera, damn BBC did not even have it on interactive though!!!!! But Hewitt loosing on again! AKTW Jun 24th, 2003, 05:23 AM Nice win. :D Congrats! King Aaron Jun 24th, 2003, 02:38 PM Well done. :) Jordan. Hopefully one of you will be able to watch her! ;) :D Dava Jun 24th, 2003, 10:47 PM I'll post a match update if people do not get to see! Good luck VERA!!! LeonHart Jun 24th, 2003, 11:24 PM ooo.. I hope Vera can pull this out...:o Dava Jun 27th, 2003, 05:53 PM I'm not sure, I think Vera could win, she was returning Iris serve well, which I thought was good preparation for tommorow. The only problem could be the movement, Iri is not that good a mover around the court, and Venus was from todays performance. I think Venus will win, but I really really want Vera to pull through, she can make it, if she plays 100 % LeonHart Jun 28th, 2003, 04:02 AM Vera will have a weekend to think about strategy vs. Venus :) LeonHart Jun 29th, 2003, 04:51 AM :bounce: Jordan. Jun 29th, 2003, 05:48 AM I agree. ;) Vamos Vera! :woohoo: ys Jun 29th, 2003, 06:04 AM This is a very important test for Vera. I do not expect to win. But what I really want to see is her playing her normal game regardless the score, playing her best, not being crushed like a bug, the way Venus crushed Nadya, and possibly making it close. That would be OK with me. She earned a lot of respect by beating Venus at French, even if she loses, she has to show that it was not a fluke. Dava Jun 30th, 2003, 02:12 PM Vera played well, just Venus is too good at the momment. Vera could just as easily won the first set 6-1! LeonHart Jun 30th, 2003, 03:16 PM It was a very close match, most games going to 30-30 or duece. Venus just had an incredible serve to save break points, and the second set was very close at 3-2 til Vera broke down  snoop Jun 30th, 2003, 03:26 PM   http://images.sportsline.com/u/gettyimages/photos/2106783CB105_Wimbledon063009_lower.jpg http://us.news2.yimg.com/us.yimg.com/p/ap/20030630/capt.1056982572.britain_wimbledon_xwim144.jpg Roxers Jun 30th, 2003, 04:19 PM    poor Vera Jordan. Jun 30th, 2003, 06:14 PM  ys Jun 30th, 2003, 08:45 PM To be honest, I am not realy upset about this loss. Vera performed at this tournament above our expectations, making the 4th round and losing to Venus in a match where she did all she could is nothing to be ashamed of. So, apart from WTT crap, what Vera plays next? LeonHart Jun 30th, 2003, 10:40 PM ys..i totally feel the same!! I'm not ashamed of Vera at all! She gave Venus a hell of a fight in the 2nd set when she went from 0-2 to 3-2! I was so proud to be her fan..she really gave it her all, and she fought all the way through! :D Jordan. Jun 30th, 2003, 10:55 PM :d AKTW Jul 1st, 2003, 05:17 AM At least Vera avoided a bagel and fought back in the second set. There is certainly nothing to be ashamed of. :) LeonHart Jul 2nd, 2003, 12:03 AM So...Vera is taking the next couple of weeks off? I don't see her in any of the commitment lists. ys Jul 2nd, 2003, 12:29 AM Vera reached the 4th round at her last 6 straight tournaments.. That's a consistency.. Jordan. Jul 2nd, 2003, 12:51 AM I agree, ys. Vera should be getting home soon, so I can ask her what her scheduling is. :) goldenlox Jul 8th, 2003, 10:41 PM I read that Vera played really well for the Philadelphia Freedoms of WTT. If I could buy stock in Vera's future, I would be first in line. Jordan. Jul 8th, 2003, 10:49 PM goldenlox :D ;) Good Luck Vera. goldenlox Jul 14th, 2003, 07:36 PM Vera has spent the past week with the Philadelphia Freedoms of World Team Tennis. This exhibition league wants big American stars like Kournikova ( who Americans are in love with ), Agassi, and Roddick. Top players like Vera and Nastya, who are not considered "draws", don't get the respect they deserve, and have earned. I've seen from the articles that Vera's results have gotten worse as the week as gone on. I can't see how playing WTT is helping Vera or Nastya. ys Jul 15th, 2003, 08:04 PM Vera's intervew given on arrival to Slovenia.. http://www.sovsport.ru/gazeta/default.asp?p=2&date=2003/7/16&id=119159 TheBoiledEgg Jul 15th, 2003, 08:16 PM good Vera says she might not play WTT again next time, too tired. its mad, all these weeks in a row, you need a break. its ok to play WTT if you don't play many events or if you are under AER, it helps to play some matches to waste a few weeks of non-play. She better be ok for Fed Cup we'll need her now Alyona is looking doubtful  Jordan. Jul 15th, 2003, 10:10 PM  I want to know Russiannnn.. Arhivarius Jul 16th, 2003, 02:53 PM  I want to know Russiannnn.. Jul 16th, 2003, 04:25 PM Thanks! :D goldenlox Jul 23rd, 2003, 07:59 PM Vera turns 19 in 6 weeks. It's just a question of when, concerning her breaking into the top 10. Jordan. Jul 27th, 2003, 05:59 PM Vera won't play until Toronto. :( KV Jul 27th, 2003, 09:45 PM Heal soon, we need you Vera LeonHart Aug 4th, 2003, 12:01 AM  Vera get well soon! Jordan. Aug 5th, 2003, 02:56 PM :bounce: goldenlox Aug 9th, 2003, 08:35 PM Vera plays Babsi in the first round. I think we're going to see Vera and Sveta in a fourth round matchup. I think both Vera and Sveta have their toughest early test in round one. GO VERA!! Dava Aug 9th, 2003, 09:23 PM Babsi could be tough, and I wont know who to pull for in that one... Also looking ahead we have a Dokic, who is (in a way) starting to get better. Her ranking will reach critical status this week unless she performes well. Who knows what that may do to her. Jordan. Aug 9th, 2003, 09:26 PM What a match. It could be tough. Also, visit here guys! http://www.zvonareva.com/forum/forumdisplay.php?fid=3 :D LeonHart Aug 10th, 2003, 10:55 PM yay...how exciting! Roxers Aug 15th, 2003, 01:00 PM best of luck vera :bounce: Felly Tournato Aug 15th, 2003, 05:37 PM Annoying loss, immature performance  Looks like Vera isn't yet ready for prime time after all...and I had high hopes for the next couple matches  Dava Aug 15th, 2003, 06:25 PM I dont know what went wrong for her, I was so sure she was going to make the final, perhaps she was too, and was just... Anyway I hope this doesnt effect her too much, cos RUS said she went into total breakdown. vaiva Aug 15th, 2003, 06:50 PM Disappoing  Maybe she just underestimated Suarez (as I'm sure many of us did :o) Felly Tournato Aug 15th, 2003, 08:04 PM Suarez was always going to be a tough match, but Vera had beaten her twice on clay. The only way Vera could have lost, really, is with a mental breakdown. She thought too much about the opportunity she had, and when it got tough, she didn't fight, she lost it. She had become one of the best fighters on Tour this year, but when the gain became too great she reverted. TartarVicario Aug 15th, 2003, 09:05 PM Suarez = Killer :smash: Sveta,Vera,Dani = Victims :awww: goldenlox Aug 15th, 2003, 09:45 PM I've been without electricity for just over 24 hours. So I haven't been able to follow what's going on. But this result doesn't shock me because Vera hadn't played since Fed Cup. And her opponents were playing poorly from what I've read. So Suarez put up a tough fight and Vera isn't match tough right now. But I still expect great things from Vera. Gowza Aug 15th, 2003, 11:32 PM this is an unfortunate loss. dissapointing yes but more unfortunate imo. vera was the higher ranked player but suarez has been playing great all year and made 3 upsets already in this tournament (if you consider hantuchova an upset). suarez was always going to be tough. vera played schett then washington then doikc and suarez. so she certainly wasn't match tough because her opponents were either not playing well or in washingtons case isn't really up to this level. vera could have been in the semis and she had a golden chance to reach the final. better luck next time vera. hopefully by the us open her game will be worked out. Arhivarius Aug 28th, 2003, 01:30 AM I like what Nick Bollittieri have said before the match: Ashley Harkleroad vs. Vera Zvonareva (13) Ashley did everything the right way with her first round victory, but she must put this win aside immediately. Why? Vera Zvonareva is considered one of the very best Russians that is coming at you from all directions. Vera has a sound two-handed backhand plus a fantastic forehand. She is a fighter and can play on all surfaces, getting to the fourth round of Wimbledon. Nick's Pick: Zvonareva in 2 sets. P.S. Ashley you’re going to have a great future, but it all comes to an end right now. :) AKTW Aug 28th, 2003, 04:29 AM Good luck against Meghann now! :) Roxers Aug 28th, 2003, 10:05 AM well done Vera :D keep it going! I've read that MacEnroe and Connors would play better when they got angry. These losses to Anna P. and Meghann. I hope it's not a bad sign for Vera's development. All the success she's had these last 18 months. I want it to be just the beginning. Jordan. Sep 1st, 2003, 06:51 PM Vera told me her next tournament will probably be Moscow. She was born Sept. 7th, 1984. Vera has so few points to defend until Indian Wells. She lost in the first round in Moscow and Melbourne (thanks to Lena B.), and the first round at Scottsdale. KV Sep 7th, 2003, 04:23 PM Happy birthday Vera, keep on progressing goldenlox Sep 28th, 2003, 01:14 PM Vera is the #7 seed in the KC and plays Amanda in the first round. And those Moscow idiots who didn't give their own girl a decent schedule. Not only that was them who caused this loss. It will likely effect very much the Fed Cup outcome. Should Vera have won today, I would have had 0% doubts that we'd beat the French. Now, courtesy of these Kremlin Cup idiots, Mauresmo is given a chance to beat all our best players in a row.. TheBoiledEgg Oct 3rd, 2003, 02:45 PM Vera shot herself in the foot 3rd set 2-1 40-15 up, she let Amelie back in doubles has proved costly :( now Alyona has to stop Amelie or it could have repurcussions for Fed Cup (but thats diff pressure) ys Oct 3rd, 2003, 03:38 PM This match pretty much wasted Vera's Masters chances. Dava Oct 3rd, 2003, 04:20 PM Im so dissapionted for Vera, she just started to miss all the shots that were landing in. KV Oct 3rd, 2003, 06:15 PM Surprisingly Vera reached the doubles final. LeonHart Oct 8th, 2003, 11:37 PM ugh, Vera loses another 3 setter to a top 10er...she's always close but unable to close em out! goldenlox Oct 11th, 2003, 03:08 PM Vera is the #7 seed in Zurich. Vera is not only losing recently, she's starting well and then doesn't finish. Vera needs to play a full match. She's very capable of it. KV Oct 13th, 2003, 09:31 PM And she did. Won a three setter. Important win, keep on winning these matches. :bounce: ys Oct 13th, 2003, 09:42 PM Well done, Vera, done the hard way, but still done. Tennis is binary, winning 201:199 in the third set tiebreaker is as good as double bagel. Next match is against a worse version of Meghann Shaugnessy, should not be that close. goldenlox Oct 13th, 2003, 10:14 PM Vera beat Meghann 6-0, 4-6, 7-6(3). Next is Amy Frazier, then Justine. Actually, a good sign that Vera didn't lose focus totally and wound up winning. Still, bottom line is that Vera is better than this. When will we see it. ally baker Oct 13th, 2003, 11:11 PM A win is a win... but  Amy may be a worse version of Meghann... but Amy must be playing well now, and Meg's sucked for months.
