good luck in QF tomorrow vs Venus (likely)

go Vera go !!!!!!!!!!!

Good win Vera :bounce:

Now get ready for Venus and go one step further :D

May 31st, 2003, 01:14 PM
Go Vera thrash Venus.

venus is not playing 100% and who knows, a little whipper-snapper like Vera could dethrone queen V.

But a good win. A saw the last game from this match. I think that she needs to be more aggresive, and take the ball earlier against venus. Also she has to try not to use the moonball, as Venus will just use the drive volley to put it away.

But overall great win from VERA!!!!

May 31st, 2003, 01:15 PM
Congrats Vera :D

Good Luck against Venus

May 31st, 2003, 05:41 PM
I saw the match and Maria played great! Vera was doing lots of moonballs but she played ok. She needs to be more agressive. Go Vera!!

Venus is not playing nearly as well as Serena. And Venus did not have the proper preperation for the French Open. And that's to Vera's advantage. I really think Vera can win a close match from Venus. Venus is not in top form and Vera needs to take advsantage of that.

Vera Zvonareva is the best fighter of the Russian tennis players. And she's going to need to fight for a win against Venus in the round of 16. And I think she can do it.

Udachi Vera! :bounce:

Congrats Vera on creating the biggest upset at this year's RG and taking out Venus in 3 sets :)

Congrats Vera on yet another great run at RG and achieving something that many girls said could do and never did, i.e. beating a W sister in a slam

Good luck on grass ;)

Jun 3rd, 2003, 11:54 PM
Aww, Vera gave it her best, but Nadia came out on top. I saw the highlights they have on the rolandgarros site, and MAN do they have long rallies! I wish i could have seen the match on TV! :(

That's what I remembered as well. Hence the question. :)

Jun 11th, 2003, 04:19 PM
Vera wins the second round and is #17 now. Another win will give her a Top 16 seed at W. I am only afraid that they will bump her to seed some stevenson or raymond..

Jun 11th, 2003, 04:51 PM
OMG, Great :bounce: :D

Vera def. Matevzic 7-5 7-5

Well done.. :) #16 :D

Jun 13th, 2003, 04:00 AM
If Vera indeed withdrew from Ordina, then I must say that she got the best management of all Russian girls. It is simply unbelieavable. She win Bol, has great tournament in Berlin. And next thing we know - she withdraws from Rome. From Rome! Would you expect Dementieva or Kournikova or Myskina , leave alone Likhovtseva do that? No way. And now she goes deep into RG draw, goes deep into Vienna draw, and the next thing we know - she takes a week off. I am pleasantly surprised as how wise those people are..

Jun 13th, 2003, 04:05 AM
And one little trivia:

Which player won the most matches on clay this year? ;)

Jun 13th, 2003, 09:29 AM
Go Vera!Revenge!Take the title! :bounce:

Jun 13th, 2003, 05:31 PM
And she loses to Sprem again..

I think shes fatigued from playing about 5 weeks in a row now.. :p Bol, Strasbourg, Roland Garros, and this week's matches.

Jun 13th, 2003, 07:10 PM
or it is Friday the 13th

Jun 13th, 2003, 07:18 PM
I think it must be nerves from when they played each other a Junior level, I know Karolina beat her a few times, so maybe this has something to do with it. I just would have thought, that Vera would have learned from last time. I hope Karolina wins the final.

Jun 14th, 2003, 12:51 AM
 Vera...com'on, losing to her TWICE? psshh..:(
Vera take a week off, and get ready for wimby!!

Jun 16th, 2003, 07:00 PM
Vera is seeded 16th for Wimby. I wonder why this is so much higher then her orginal ranking.

Jun 16th, 2003, 07:04 PM
Sorry I know why I had not seen the new rankings!!

Jun 22nd, 2003, 02:20 AM
Vera has a pretty good draw...Patty in the 3rd round, then Venus/Petrova in the 4th. But I'm still not so sure about how Vera will cope with grass, I guess we'll see in the 1st round :D!

Jun 22nd, 2003, 01:35 PM

Vera plays Venus!! I hope Vera can pull this out...:o

Jun 27th, 2003, 06:53 PM
I'm not sure, I think Vera could win, she was returning Iris serve well, which I thought was good preparation for tommorow.

The only problem could be the movement, Iri is not that good a mover around the court, and Venus was from todays performance. I think Venus will win, but I really really want Vera to pull through, she can make it, if she plays 100 %

Jun 28th, 2003, 05:02 AM
Vera will have a weekend to think about strategy vs. Venus :)

Jun 29th, 2003, 05:51 AM

Jun 29th, 2003, 06:48 AM
I agree. ;)

Vamos Vera! :woohoo:

Jun 29th, 2003, 07:04 AM
This is a very important test for Vera. I do not expect to win. But what I really want to see is her playing her normal game regardless the score, playing her best, not being crushed like a bug, the way Venus crushed Nadya, and possibly making it close. That would be OK with me. She earned a lot of respect by beating Venus at French, even if she loses, she has to show that it was not a fluke.

Jun 30th, 2003, 03:12 PM
Vera played well, just Venus is too good at the momment. Vera could just as easily won the first set 6-1!

Jun 30th, 2003, 04:16 PM
It was a very close match, most games going to 30-30 or duece. Venus just had an incredible serve to save break points, and the second set was very close at 3-2 til Vera broke down

Jun 30th, 2003, 04:26 PM

Jun 30th, 2003, 09:45 PM
To be honest, I am not realy upset about this loss. Vera performed at this tournament above our expectations, making the 4th round and losing to Venus in a match where she did all she could is nothing to be ashamed of.

So, apart from WTT crap, what Vera plays next?

Jun 30th, 2003, 11:40 PM
ys..i totally feel the same!! I'm not ashamed of Vera at all! She gave Venus a hell of a fight in the 2nd set when she went from 0-2 to 3-2! I was so proud to be her fan..she really gave it her all, and she fought all the way through! :D

Jun 30th, 2003, 11:55 PM

Jul 1st, 2003, 06:17 AM
At least Vera avoided a bagel and fought back in the second set. There is certainly nothing to be ashamed of. :)

Jul 2nd, 2003, 01:03 AM
So...Vera is taking the next couple of weeks off? I don't see her in any of the commitment lists.

Jul 2nd, 2003, 01:29 AM
Vera reached the 4th round at her last 6 straight tournaments.. That's a consistency..

Jul 2nd, 2003, 01:51 AM
I agree, ys.

Vera should be getting home soon, so I can ask her what her scheduling is. :)

Jul 8th, 2003, 11:41 PM
I read that Vera played really well for the Philadelphia Freedoms of WTT.
If I could buy stock in Vera's future, I would be first in line.

Jul 8th, 2003, 11:49 PM
goldenlox :D ;)

Good Luck Vera.

Jul 14th, 2003, 08:36 PM
Vera has spent the past week with the Philadelphia Freedoms of World Team Tennis.
This exhibition league wants big American stars like Kournikova ( who Americans are in love with ), Agassi, and Roddick.
Top players like Vera and Nastya, who are not considered "draws", don't get the respect they deserve, and have earned.
I've seen from the articles that Vera's results have gotten worse as the week as gone on.
I can't see how playing WTT is helping Vera or Nastya.

Jul 15th, 2003, 09:04 PM
Vera's intervew given on arrival to Slovenia..

Jul 15th, 2003, 09:16 PM
good Vera says she might not play WTT again next time, too tired.
its mad, all these weeks in a row, you need a break.

its ok to play WTT if you don't play many events
or if you are under AER, it helps to play some matches to waste a few weeks of non-play.

She better be ok for Fed Cup
we'll need her now Alyona is looking doubtful

Jul 15th, 2003, 11:10 PM
 I want to know Russiannnn..

Jul 23rd, 2003, 08:59 PM
Vera turns 19 in 6 weeks. It's just a question of when, concerning her breaking into the top 10.

Jul 27th, 2003, 06:59 PM
Vera won't play until Toronto. :(

Aug 9th, 2003, 09:35 PM
Vera plays Babsi in the first round.
I think we're going to see Vera and Sveta in a fourth round matchup.

I think both Vera and Sveta have their toughest early test in round one.

Aug 9th, 2003, 10:23 PM
Babsi could be tough, and I wont know who to pull for in that one...

Also looking ahead we have a Dokic, who is (in a way) starting to get better. Her ranking will reach critical status this week unless she performes well. Who knows what that may do to her.

Aug 9th, 2003, 10:26 PM
What a match. It could be tough.

Also, visit here guys!

Aug 10th, 2003, 11:55 PM

Greatwin Vera, Babsi was playing her best tennis for some time (from matches I have seen anyway). Vera has a good draw and I expect her to go far in this tournament.

Aug 11th, 2003, 09:19 PM
A great win for Vera. Her first match since Fed Cup.
I know Vera has few points to defend until Indian Wells. Except 2 U.S. open wins.
Can Vera make the L.A. championships?

Aug 11th, 2003, 09:27 PM
1 KIM CLIJSTERS 4671.00 14
5 VENUS WILLIAMS 2211.00 6
7 CHANDA RUBIN 1638.00 13
9 AI SUGIYAMA 1356.00 17
10 VERA ZVONAREVA 1288.00 15

16 ELENA DEMENTIEVA 1044.00 18
17 NATHALIE DECHY 1026.00 17

She's a good chance the 18th ranked Farina lost today.

Aug 12th, 2003, 07:40 AM
I also think Vera can go far in this tournament. She also has a good chance to make the championships. :)
Go Vera!

It could go either way tommorow.

Annoying loss, immature performance

Looks like Vera isn't yet ready for prime time after all...and I had high hopes for the next couple matches

Aug 15th, 2003, 07:25 PM
I dont know what went wrong for her, I was so sure she was going to make the final, perhaps she was too, and was just...

Anyway I hope this doesnt effect her too much, cos RUS said she went into total breakdown.

Aug 15th, 2003, 07:50 PM
Disappoing

Maybe she just underestimated Suarez (as I'm sure many of us did :o)

Felly Tournato
Aug 15th, 2003, 09:04 PM
Suarez was always going to be a tough match, but Vera had beaten her twice on clay.

The only way Vera could have lost, really, is with a mental breakdown. She thought too much about the opportunity she had, and when it got tough, she didn't fight, she lost it. She had become one of the best fighters on Tour this year, but when the gain became too great she reverted.

Aug 15th, 2003, 10:05 PM
Suarez = Killer :smash:

Sveta,Vera,Dani = Victims :awww:

Aug 15th, 2003, 10:45 PM
I've been without electricity for just over 24 hours. So I haven't been able to follow what's going on.
But this result doesn't shock me because Vera hadn't played since Fed Cup. And her opponents were playing poorly from what I've read.
So Suarez put up a tough fight and Vera isn't match tough right now.
But I still expect great things from Vera.

Aug 16th, 2003, 12:32 AM
this is an unfortunate loss. dissapointing yes but more unfortunate imo. vera was the higher ranked player but suarez has been playing great all year and made 3 upsets already in this tournament (if you consider hantuchova an upset). suarez was always going to be tough.

vera played schett then washington then doikc and suarez. so she certainly wasn't match tough because her opponents were either not playing well or in washingtons case isn't really up to this level.

vera could have been in the semis and she had a golden chance to reach the final. better luck next time vera. hopefully by the us open her game will be worked out.

Aug 16th, 2003, 02:10 AM
Vera
I do think we have estimated Suarez at least I was.I take it for granted that Vera can beat her without trouble. :o
Better luck next time!!

Vera lost, 0-6, 7-6(5), 6-2.
After leading 6-0, 5-3.
Well, I know I differ from most people, but I prefer the loss this week than to be in war after war, and be tired on Monday.
Udachi Vera!!

Aug 27th, 2003, 11:22 PM
Two rounds is as far as Vera went last year.
From now to Indian Wells it's points, points, points!
Udachi Vera!!

Aug 28th, 2003, 02:30 AM
I like what Nick Bollittieri have said before the match:
Ashley Harkleroad vs. Vera Zvonareva (13)
Ashley did everything the right way with her first round victory, but she must put this win aside immediately. Why? Vera Zvonareva is considered one of the very best Russians that is coming at you from all directions. Vera has a sound two-handed backhand plus a fantastic forehand. She is a fighter and can play on all surfaces, getting to the fourth round of Wimbledon. Nick's Pick: Zvonareva in 2 sets. P.S. Ashley you’re going to have a great future, but it all comes to an end right now. :)

Aug 28th, 2003, 05:29 AM
Good luck against Meghann now! :)

Aug 28th, 2003, 11:05 AM
well done Vera :D

keep it going!

Aug 28th, 2003, 03:22 PM
Important win

Aug 29th, 2003, 08:22 AM

:wavey: Good luck to Vera... sh's cool:)

Aug 29th, 2003, 03:36 PM

Good to see you in here!

Go Vera tonight, take Meghann you've done it once you can do it again!

Aug 29th, 2003, 09:53 PM
She lost! I cant believe it, Meghann must be playing well at the Open.

Aug 29th, 2003, 09:55 PM
Vera
did u see it ???

Vera just went in final set  :(:(

Aug 29th, 2003, 10:03 PM
It might happen to lose against Megh who's on fire. I'm sure in the Kremlin Cup the Russian girls will have better results than at the US Open.

Aug 29th, 2003, 10:09 PM
They showed very little in the U.S., but Vera doesn't keep her emotions bottled up. Still 18 though. For one more week.

Aug 30th, 2003, 04:58 AM
This is unbelievable.

Sep 1st, 2003, 07:39 PM
Vera doesn't seem to be able to use her emotions to play better.
I've read that MacEnroe and Connors would play better when they got angry.
These losses to Anna P. and Meghann. I hope it's not a bad sign for Vera's development.
All the success she's had these last 18 months. I want it to be just the beginning.

Sep 1st, 2003, 07:51 PM
Vera told me her next tournament will probably be Moscow. Get some rest Vera!! :)

Sep 1st, 2003, 10:17 PM
I was at the Open last wednesday and was in the front row near zvonarevas player box and i talked to some girl for a second who im pretty sure was a player because I had seen her practicing outside. I was just wondering if anyone knew who it was, I'm pretty sure she was Russian and her coach was a black fellow and they were in Zvonarevas box for the harkleroad match, anyone help would be great, thanks.

Sep 5th, 2003, 04:04 PM

Vera in Russia will in the struggle with tour in due to her relating emotion with her and others in the tour. I am hoping wellness in Vera she will eat the mcdonalds hamburgers leewardly giving big tum tum.

Greeting and Salutating,

I want to wish a happy birthday to Vera. She was born Sept. 7th, 1984.
Vera has so few points to defend until Indian Wells. She lost in the first round in Moscow and Melbourne (thanks to Lena B.), and the first round at Scottsdale.
I predict age 19 will be the beginning of Vera's years in the top 10.

Happy Birthday Vera!!

Sep 7th, 2003, 05:23 PM
Happy birthday Vera, keep on progressing

Sep 28th, 2003, 02:14 PM
Vera is the #7 seed in the KC and plays Amanda in the first round. I think a good chance for Vera to win two matches.
In doubles, Vera and Nastya play Alyona and Lina in the first round.
Stay calm, Vera.

Sep 29th, 2003, 10:36 AM
Good luck at Moscow:bounce::D

Sep 29th, 2003, 06:37 PM
4-6 6-1 6-2 over Coetzer
Well done Vera! :) :)

Sep 29th, 2003, 07:04 PM
WD Vera next up the other Vera

Sep 30th, 2003, 01:56 AM
My girl Vera! ;) She did well, first set was UE filled, but she quickly cleaned up in 2nd and 3rd sets. GL vs. little Vera :)

Sep 30th, 2003, 03:33 AM
Vera should win 6-0 6-0.

Sep 30th, 2003, 04:23 PM
it was good to see Vera fight and come back against Amanda.

I perosnally hopes she beats Vera D though :tape:.

Oct 1st, 2003, 01:42 AM
Vera will beat Vera!!! I promise you! :tape:;)

Now comes a much tougher opponent, Amelie. Vera gets a real test here.

Go Vera, you win now, and Kremlin Cup is ours.

Oct 3rd, 2003, 03:27 PM
Stupid doubles. And those Moscow idiots who didn't give their own girl a decent schedule. Not only that was them who caused this loss. It will likely effect very much the Fed Cup outcome. Should Vera have won today, I would have had 0% doubts that we'd beat the French. Now, courtesy of these Kremlin Cup idiots, Mauresmo is given a chance to beat all our best players in a row..

Oct 3rd, 2003, 03:45 PM
Vera shot herself in the foot
3rd set 2-1 40-15 up, she let Amelie back in

doubles has proved costly :(
now Alyona has to stop Amelie or it could have repurcussions for Fed Cup (but thats diff pressure)

Oct 3rd, 2003, 04:38 PM
This match pretty much wasted Vera's Masters chances.

Oct 3rd, 2003, 05:20 PM
Im so dissapionted for Vera, she just started to miss all the shots that were landing in.

Oct 3rd, 2003, 07:15 PM
Surprisingly Vera reached the doubles final. Vera/Nastya def. Martina/Sveta. They'll face N. Petrova/M. Shaughnessy. Good luck Vera.

Oct 4th, 2003, 01:19 AM
What do you mean? I'm still a Lena Bovina fan

Vera didn't win a game after I headed to school, how disappointing :(

Oct 4th, 2003, 04:59 AM
It was disappointing but Vera fought well in the second set.
Now I hope Vera and Nastya win the doubles title.(sorry Nadia)

Oct 5th, 2003, 06:25 AM
it would have been nice if vera had won the match but i'm glad it went to 3 sets. i've been worried about her ever since she came back from that injury but now she has just shown that she still has what it takes to be a top player.

Oct 5th, 2003, 07:00 AM
nastya/bepa in final of doubles, go go go

Oct 6th, 2003, 03:25 AM
Vera's first round match in Filderstadt is the #7 seed, Rubin.
A tough, tough first rounder.

Oct 6th, 2003, 02:12 PM
good luck vera :)

Oct 6th, 2003, 02:48 PM
Rubin is beatable, Go Vera!

Vera/Nastya first round doubles is Petrova/Shaunessy :tape:

Oct 8th, 2003, 08:57 PM
Vera lost to Rubin 1-6, 6-4, 6-3.
Vera does not play her best tennis with the lead. And that's something that has to change for Vera to win more titles.

Oct 9th, 2003, 12:37 AM
ugh, Vera loses another 3 setter to a top 10er...she's always close but unable to close em out!

Oct 11th, 2003, 04:08 PM
Vera is the #7 seed in Zurich. She plays Meghann Shaughnessy in the first round.
They've split two meetings. Vera won at Indian Wells. Meghann won 4-6, 6-4, 6-2, at the US Open.
It's time to avenge that loss. Udachi Vera!

Oct 11th, 2003, 04:52 PM
Vera has to take revenge
good luck Vera :)
you can do it girl

Meg hasn't won a match since you know :o

Oct 11th, 2003, 05:36 PM
Zvonareva/Dementieva at Zurich! :woohoo:

Oct 11th, 2003, 09:54 PM
Get revenge VERA! :fiery:

Go Vera/Elena :bounce:

Oct 12th, 2003, 03:52 PM
Vera still has some slim chance to play in LA. She just needs to have a couple of good tournaments. Losing to Chanda was relly a wated chance.

Oct 13th, 2003, 06:00 PM
Chanda's loss makes Vera's chances better. She must make at least semis in Zurich though to keep her chances alive. Not that she is not capable of that. But she needs to beat Meghann first.

Oct 13th, 2003, 07:53 PM
she needs to win a match first... any match.

Oct 13th, 2003, 08:42 PM
Agreed. Vera is not only losing recently, she's starting well and then doesn't finish.
Vera needs to play a full match. She's very capable of it.

Oct 13th, 2003, 10:31 PM
And she did. Won a three setter. Important win, keep on winning these matches. :bounce:

Oct 13th, 2003, 10:42 PM
Well done, Vera, done the hard way, but still done. Tennis is binary, winning 201:199 in the third set tiebreaker is as good as double bagel. Next match is against a worse version of Meghann Shaugnessy, should not be that close.

Oct 13th, 2003, 11:14 PM
Vera beat Meghann 6-0, 4-6, 7-6(3). Next is Amy Frazier, then Justine.
Actually, a good sign that Vera didn't lose focus totally and wound up winning.
Still, bottom line is that Vera is better than this. When will we see it.

ally baker
Oct 14th, 2003, 12:11 AM
A win is a win... but

Amy may be a worse version of Meghann... but Amy must be playing well now, and Meg's sucked for months.

It won't be easier.

Oct 14th, 2003, 01:58 AM
Amy Fraizer doesn't really have a big weapon, but is consistant. Seeing how Vera handled Coezter in Moscow, I think Vera is prepared for this match. Good luck in doubles tomorrow! :bounce:

Oct 14th, 2003, 10:17 AM
Good comeback, Vera! Finally she won a match she should have won.

Oct 14th, 2003, 01:10 PM
keep it up vera :D :bounce:

Oct 14th, 2003, 02:59 PM

Oct 15th, 2003, 02:00 PM

Oct 15th, 2003, 02:09 PM
Well done Vera. Should have closed the match at your first attempt though ;)

Oct 15th, 2003, 02:48 PM
Keep it going Vera! :)
Good luck in the QF!

Udachi Vera!

Win at least 6 games on Justine, and I'll be happy.

Oct 15th, 2003, 10:57 PM
Vera and Justine have played once, in Berlin this year. Justine won 4 & 5.
This match is a chance for Vera to make a statement and stay in the race to L.A.
