Yeah, and look at the difference in just a year!!! All that excitement replaced with so much disappointment!!

I can make comparisons with my favourite football team, Everton, one year we can look great and finish 7th, the next we finished 17th, the next year we finished 4th and this season were currently 20th!!

I just hope im not gonna end up in the same kind of rollercoaster ride with Vera for her entire career!!

That was awful to hear first thing this morning when I turned on the teletext.

However she can look for inspiration - Hantuchova struggled last year but has made a bit of a comeback. It won't be all doom and gloom. If these rumours are true about her coach then maybe a new coach will be good for her.

Keep the faith!

I think it would be odd to break up before the end of the season, but who knows?

In the interview she gave recently (I think at the Kremlin Cup), she said that things were okay

I could try to find out about it, but I think we should wait a bit longer to see what happens :)

Vera's draw at Philly:

Davenport (1) vs bye
Sucha vs Q
Shvedova (WC) vs Q
Petrova (6) vs Q

Dementieva (4) vs bye
Zvonareva vs Díaz Oliva
Craybas vs Peschke
Schnyder (5) vs Karatantcheva

Jankovic (8) vs Panova
Shaughnessy vs Washington
Benesova vs Sugiyama
Mauresmo (3) vs bye

Vaidisova (7) vs Q
Koukalova vs Rolle (WC)
Raymond vs Stosur
Sharapova (2) vs bye

Like last week,Dementieva is the highest seed in Vera's draw but this time she will have to face a much easier opponent than Peschke.Diaz oliva is almost a clay court player so I don't think Vera will have too much difficulties to beat her :) Udachi Vera!!

I dont think Vera or Lena should split. Lena is very experienced and mentally very good (though she has yet to recover from Moscow, but she will) and is the perfect partner for Vera
they can speak russian on the court and they partner together quite well (from what I saw in Moscow against Schiavone/Peschke)

Vera Zvonareva has 240 points coming off, and will probably fall below #40 if she loses first round.
If we look for the match with the most on the line for both players, it is doubtless the second round contest at Philadelphia between Dementieva and Zvonareva. Zvonareva must win to have any hopes of staying Top 30; Dementieva, barring further withdrawals, is under pressure to assure her Championships spot.Women's Look Forward: Philadelphia, Quebec (Larson) (http://wtaworld.com/showthread.php?t=201661)

Bepa mustn't play Philadelphia in the frame of mind that she's desperate to defend her runner-up points from last year. That would surely lead to one of her notorious emotional meltdowns. :scared:

Instead, she must be inspired by positive memories of the brilliant tennis she played at Philadelphia 2004 when, needing to beat Jennifer Capriati to qualify for the WTA Tour Championships, she dismantled her 6-0 6-1 and went on to reach the final. :worship:

With Martinez and Ruano Pascual joining the teams of Cara Black-Liezel Huber and Lisa Raymond-Samantha Stosur, the battle for the final doubles spot is even more heated, particularly with fourth-place team member Paola Suarez out for the year with a hip injury, meaning two teams are essentially in a fierce fight this week for the last invitation.

Ai Sugiyama and Daniela Hantuchova are currently fifth with 1,571 points and idle this week. The sixth-place team of Elena Likhovtseva and Vera Zvonareva are 77 points behind with 1,494 points and could pass Sugiyama and Hantuchova for the last spot by reaching the semifinals at the Advanta Championships.

She supposedly had the virus all this year, so I don't know how much we can read into her results. She still has major meltdown problems, but her game looked to be in pretty good shape in Moscow. For me, the start of 2006 will be the big test.

I am almost sure :D

but she wont double-bagel Sesil

I am not that sad as we are all used to awful losses this year
there is a match report in the Sesil forum and it seems like Vera just could hold serve twice in the entire match! :o

there are many factors that come together this year

The Russian doubles team of Elena Likhovtseva and Vera Zvonareva followed Dementieva on court. Philadelphia fans I spoke to are still talking about Zvonareva's memorable run all the way to last year's final. The emotionally-expressive Russian registered a dramatic, 6-2, 7-6(2), victory over compatriot, which featured the unforgettable scene of her breaking down and sobbing on the court during the changeover in agony over blowing a big lead. Still the gritty Zvonareva regained her composure and came back to force the tiebreak, which she won before bowing to top-seeded Mauresmo, 6-3, 2-6, 2-6, in the final.

This season has been a trying one for Zvonareva, who finished 2004 ranked No. 11, but has dropped to No. 27. In Tuesday's opening-round match, Zvonareva lost in straight sets to precocious teenager Sesil Karatantcheva, who upset Venus Williams at Roland Garros, and is now ranked No. 36. But aided by the support and stability of veteran Likhovtseva, Zvonareva looked solid and composed in doubles as the Russian duo won easily over Jill Craybas and Jasmine Woehr, 6-1, 6-2.

ASB Classic faces Russian invasion

23 November 2005 http://www.stuff.co.nz/inl/images/null.gif
The late signing of two Veras will give Russia a five-pronged top-50 presence at the ASB Classic women's tennis tournament in January.

Today's announcement that world No 39 Vera Douchevina and No 42 Vera Zvonareva will be in Auckland gives the event arguably its best ever field , boasting an initial entry list featuring the confirmed first 23 seeds inside the world top 80.

The five Russians, who also include top seed Nadia Petrova (ranked ninth), second seed Elena Likhovtseva (17th) and fourth seed Maria Kirilenko (25th), provide a strong chance of their country winning the tournament for the first time.

Leila Meskhi won representing the Soviet Union in 1990 but is regarded as a Georgian.

Known for her emotion on court, Zvonareva adds an extra dimension to the field which also has Greek two-time winner Eleni Danilidou in the field.

Petrova stands out from the field on recent form, having made the semifinals of a Grand Slam twice.

1 Nadia Petrova (Russia, 9)
2 Elena Likhovtseva (Russia, 17)
3 Daniela Hantuchova (Slovakia, 19)
4 Maria Kirilenko (Russia, 25)
5 Katarina Srebotnik (Slovenia, 27)
6 Shinobu Asagoe (Japan, 38)
7 Vera Douchevina (Russia, 39)
8 Marion Bartoli (France, 40)
9 Vera Zvonerva (Russia, 42)
10 Shahar Peer (Israel 45)
11 Jill Craybas (United States, 47)
12 Akiko Morigami (Japan, 48)
13 Amy Frazier (United States, 52)
14 Paola Suarez (Argentina, 55)
15 Mariana Diaz-Oliva (Argentina, 56)
16 Catalina Castano (Colombia, 59)
17 Marta Domachowska (Poland, 60)
18 Laura Granville (United States, 61)
19 Meghann Shaughnessy (United States, 66)
20 Eleni Daniilidou (Greece, 70)

But I have no idea how well she will play.
As long as Vera plays lots of doubles, she'll have a decent financial year.

Bepa's plans for the holidays

Vera hasnt done that for a long time. Even in her famous 2004 season she didnt reach a quarters. I think it is a realistic aim for her in 2006

In the fall of 2003, Sveta was losing in Tier II qualies.

Vera was up 6-2 4-2 on Suarez's serve when the rain started. She was actually down at the start of both sets, but kept her head together.

She was actually playing better than Petrova I thought, yet suarez was a tougher opponent. Her defense was the best of the day (better than even Azarenka) and forehand and backhand both solid!

I say she will be in for a good run! It's the first Vera match I have ever watched live too!!! Interesting to hear what she has to say about herself!

Hingis may be carving up journeywomen on the Gold Coast, but Bepa should be a different kettle of fish for one who has been out of the game for three years, especially if Bepa's health-problems are behind her.
