You've got to love that Bepa! some of those quotes and antics
She got a 'little' frustrated! I didn't think She bothered with the little, and Francesca's remark that they could burn Bepa while they are at it! give Me Players like that instead of Robots, although sometimes it would be good if Bepa didn't become a 'little' frustrated so much! :)

She is not the nimblest of players on court,

What rubbish. Bepa has the best retrieval-skills I've ever seen, even if this has as much to do with racketwork and resourcefulness as sheer mobility. It's her remarkable ability to turn defence into attack, and produce wonderful shots when off-balance.

I dont understand how Mauresmo can beat Vera in straights in most of her encounters! Mauresmo (who I also dont like, because she is  ) has absolutely no weapons to hurt real top people like Clijsters, Henin, Davenport, Williams or Sharapova. She wont win against these players on normal days! Her being number 1 in the world is a complete joke!

Vera had good matches against Davenport and Williams. She won against Masha. She must beat Mauresmo to make a step forwards!

But good week, Vera

Bepa and Lena lost the 1st set 1-6 :help: :help: :help:

It was an absolutely horrible set of tennis. They won 25% of points on their 1st serve, and 50% of points on their 2nd serve, and were broken 4 times. They converted only 1/6 BP chances, and missed 4 in one game, only to be broken in the following game.

A Tier I semi before RG is a great way to build some confidence. She needs to use this week to focus on the positives and enter RG with hope.

She will be a dangerous threat there, as long as she holds it all together. A QF is not out of the question.

Black/Huber defeated Bepa/Lena 6-1 3-6 6-2 :bigcry:

They missed BPx2 in the final game, but were basically pathetic on BP throughout the match.

I suppose just before this Tournament,We would have been very happy to settle for a semi final:) A little unusual to have the same Opponents (and outcomes )for the quarter and semi finals a year on,or is it?

Bepa does seem to have a real problem dealing with bloody Mauresmo:( given that bloody Mauresmo is a top Player,You would think a Player of Bepa's talent:worship: would have won or come very close one out of seven times:fiery:

Noticed Bepa receiving some praise and nice words on GM because She 'behaved well' during the match, seems the great GM horde would rather have Bepa lose pretty than win ugly:p I suppose the Bepa might go into a bloody Mauresmo contest knowing a loss is on the cards and when a game goes down the gurgler She doesn't feel the same need to beat Herself to a pulp as She does with a lesser opponent:eek:

Great to see the form coming back, a bit of a :fiery: with the

Vera is playing good tennis. But its those elite wins that she can't seem to snag regularly enough.

She is in a seeding bracket with Patty, Justine and Venus, scheduled to meet either Nastya, Elena, Sveta or Nadia (Russian attack!).

I do worry about Vera's chances against the elite Russians. I think she has a good bet against every one of those girls except Elena and to a certain extent Sveta (and I'm genuinely not being bias).

Nastya and Vera have always played close matches and I think their games suit one another. Good solid hitting with variety sprinkled in. Nadia can be quite mentally shaky.

Sveta has the potential to blow anyone off the court. She is also more composed at times compared to Vera. Elena has the mental edge. That match at the USO was very important. Now Elena is even tougher and more solid, and hits it harder than Vera.

I hope Vera gets Nadia. Rematch at RG, because I believe Vera should have made that RG SF.

I hope Vera gets Nadia. Rematch at RG, because I believe Vera should have made that RG SF.I want Bepa and Nadia as far away from each other as possible. I want both of them picking up major points, so they can't meet in the 4th round.

It's interesting that they posted this, but didn't post anything about Nadia making the final in Berlin.

Bepa's quarter of the draw

1-Lindsay Davenport (E-U)-Katarina Srebotnik (Slo)
Mailyne Andrieux (Fra)-Shuai Peng (Chi)
Tatiana Panova (Rus)-Qualifiée
Virginie Razzano (Fra)-25-Dinara Safina (Rus)
20-Daniela Hantuchova (Slovaquie)-Qualifiée
Denisa Chladkova (Tch)-Catalina Castano (Col)
Ludmila Cervanova (Slovaquie)-Aiko Nakamura (Jap)
Qualifiée-14-Kim Clijsters (Bel)

9-Vera Zvonareva (Rus)-Qualifiée
Qualifiée-Maria Kirilenko (Rus)
Jelena Kostanic (Cro)-Tamarine Tanasugarn (Tha)
Vera Douchevina (Rus)-21-Mary Pierce (Fra)
32-Flavia Pennetta (Ita)-Jill Craybas (E-U)
Marta Domachowska (Pol)-Stéphanie Cohen-Aloro (Fra)
Qualifiée-Qualifiée
Yoon Jeong Cho (Cor-S)-8-Patty Schnyder (Sui)

Possibly:
1st round - qualifier
2nd round- Masha Kirilenko
3rd round - Mary Pierce/Vera Douchevina
4th round - Patty Schnyder

If Bepa has regained her form on clay, I think this is a pretty good draw :yeah:

Just reading this from the Mercury News -

Sharapova spent an hour Saturday hitting with another Russian, Vera Zvonareva, who trains in Delray Beach, Fla., and she has more than enough force to hit through these courts against most opponents, almost regardless of the weather conditions. Prediction: She'll run into Henin-Hardenne in the quarters, where she'll find out, as she did at Berlin, that a certain amount of finesse is needed to win this tournament.

Congrats for the very solid entrance in the tournament Bepa:bigclap:  :yeah: , i think she played as well as in Rome :D If she keeps on playing like this, she should win against Eva too :) Nevertheless she must be careful all the same coz Eva must have played pretty good to beat Makiri and tomorrow, it will be her 5th match in Rg so she is probably more adapted to the surface than Bepa. DAVAI BEPAAAAAAAAA!! :bounce: Plz win to prove at your haters that they were wrong (Bob Larson = :fiery:   :fiery: ) One can't have reached the top 10 without reasons  I would like to see his face when Bepa will win a Grand Slam ( i'm so sure she will do it!! :D )
Btw, Despite the fact that i prefer Nastya than Lena L,I'm glad to see that Bepa plays with Lena L even in grand slams :D IMO, the Lena/Vera team is better than the Nastya/Vera team :p

Pierce works old magic to upset Zvonareva
By Araz Gulekjian
Friday, May 27, 2005
Home town favourite Mary Pierce continued her magical Parisian run with a solid performance on Friday to earn a spot in the last sixteen.

The 30-year-old French veteran recovered from a shaky first set to oust Russian No9 seed Vera Zvonareva 7-6 (2), 7-5 in a two hour 12 minute match peppered with breaks of serves on Philippe Chatrier Court.

Pierce, a champion here in 2000 and runner-up in 1994, committed 55 unforced errors to her young opponent's 42, but thumped 34 winners to Zvonareva's 16 during the hotly contested battle.

She now squares off with 8 seed southpaw Patty Schnyder of Switzerland, who outlasted Italian Flavia Pennetta earlier on Friday.

The Canadian-born, American-raised and French-naturalized Pierce struggled to get any form of consistency on her shots as Zvonareva raced to a 5-2 lead.

But the trimmed Frenchwoman cut on her dismal number of unforced errors and began to find her range as she reeled off three games to make it 5-all.

She saved a set point in the eleventh game and dominated proceedings in the tie-breaker.

The fist-pumping Pierce grew in confidence and broke a frustrated Zvonareva, who constantly contested line calls. Pierce went up 4-2, gave up that lead but finally closed it out in the eleventh game when the Russian sailed a forehand wide.Where does this "journalist" mention the reason the linecalls were contested (because they were :bs: ), or how the crowd was booing Bepa?

What a pile of garbage :shout:

Great reporting alright, remember the performance over the Serena"The ball was in!"incident. I don't think many Umpires would have let the crowd carry on for so long while a Player was attempting to serve, and they even booed Her off the court for daring to question the calls, one of the commentators said when playing a French player at RG You should never question a call even if it lands a foot inside the line, what a load of crap! it is a pity Bepa couldn't have brought Herself to smile and wave at the buggers as She left, but I suppose that is easier said than done

It's A Russian Revolution

This year’s Hastings Direct International Championships are on the verge of another Russian revolution.

Two more of the world’s top twenty players, Vera Zvonareva (http://eastbourne.lta.org.uk/News/050601Zvonareva.htm#zvonareva) (No. 11), and Elena Likhovtseva (http://eastbourne.lta.org.uk/News/050601Zvonareva.htm#likhovtseva) (No. 19), have signed up alongside fellow countrywomen, Anastasia Myskina (No.6) and Svetlana Kuznetsova (No. 7), who has already announced her intention to defend her title at Devonshire Park, Eastbourne, 11-18 June.

The Russian stars, Vera Zvonareva and Elena Likhovtseva, both of whom are familiar with the surroundings of Eastbourne, having played in the Championships last year, will not be phased by the tough opposition which includes Justine Henin-Hardenne, Kim Clijsters and Amelie Mauresmo.

Vera recently won on Tour at Memphis and Elena has showed some top doubles form, which she will hope to transpose onto her singles game.

Joint Championships Director John Feaver welcomed the Russians’ decision to play: “This summer will be one of the strongest draws in many years at the Hastings Direct International Championships. Vera and Elena are two more fantastic additions to the draw. Devonshire Park is set for a week of truly world class tennis.”

Tickets are available to see some of the finest tennis players in the world, at the 30th Hastings Direct International Championships, by calling the ticket information line on 01323 412 000.

Player Profiles

Vera Zvonareva ("") - 2005 In Detail:

JANUARY – She played her first Tour match of the year at Sydney only to lose in the second round. As No.9 seed at the Australian Open Vera lost to Douchevina in the second round. She reached her first career Grand Slam semi-final (w/Myskina) at the Australian Open, eventually falling to No.6 seeds Kuznetsova/Molik.

FEBRUARY – As top seed at Pattaya City, Vera easily reached the quarter-final but was upset by Linetskaya in straight sets. She then went onto capture her third career singles title and second straight victory as top seed at Memphis.

MARCH – Vera withdrew from Indian Wells due to a throat problem and returned to court at Miami as No.9 seed.

APRIL – As No.6 seed at Amelia Island, Vera reached the quarter-final before losing to Razzano. She was then upset in the second-round as No.6 seed at Charleston and again in the second-round at Warsaw.

MAY – As No.5 seed at Berlin she lost her fourth straight match in the second-round. However she made amends and teamed with Likhovtseva to capture her second career doubles title at Berlin. This inspired her to break her losing streak by reaching the semi-final in Rome.

Has anyone noticed that Bepa seems to be using a different racquet?

In Berlin she had a racquet with "Fischer" written in red on the throat, but "Fischer" was written in fluoro green on the throat of the racquet that she used in Rome and at the French Open.

Could it be the new Magnetic Speed (http://www.fischer-tennis.com/en/rackets/newsdetail.php?id_news_group=3&id_news=346), or just a paintjob?

There are more pics of the rqcquet in this (http://tt.tennis-warehouse.com/showthread.php?t=49540&page=1&pp=15) thread.

How about this classic ranking from thisislondon site

TODAY'S TOP FIVE ANGRY STARS:

XAVIER MALISSE: Hot-head Malisse was suspended for four weeks by the ATP this year after being defaulted from the Nasdaq-100 in March for verbally abusing and throwing a ball at a line-judge, then kicking over his chair. Malisse was winning his match at the time.
Tantrumometer rating: !!!!!

LLEYTON HEWITT: The loudmouth Aussie's ill-advised rants have plunged him into controversy after calling one umpire a "spastic", then walking into a race storm for comments made at a black linesman during a match against African-American James Blake.
Tantrumometer rating: !!!!

VERA ZVONAREVA: The emotionally-suspect Russian regularly breaks down in tears during her matches and has become adept at snatching defeat from the jaws of victory. Once threw a water bottle into a crowd who were berating her over her tantrums.
Tantrumometer rating: !!!

MARAT SAFIN: Surly Russian Safin is not a man to cross and is known as the leading racket-smasher in the men's game. Saves many of his best moans for post-match press conferences and last year declared he would not return to Wimbledon because he hated the grass.
Tantrumometer rating: !! TIM HENMAN: This wild Brit was defaulted from a Wimbledon doubles match in 1995 for whacking a ball girl in the face with an ill-timed volley. Also lost his cool in Hamburg this year when an important umpiring decision went against him.
Tantrumometer rating:!

As long as she doesn't cross the line by resorting to an Eric Cantona-style karate kick into the crowd, she will still be an  in my eyes :p

If Bepa was more positive, she would have defeated Mary at RG.

Thanks Spunky :worship:

This is the match that I vowed I would never watch :bigcry:

I was on a bus in Estonia and texted my friend for the result, and she said that Bepa had lost. It wasn't until I got to Vilnius (Vaiva :wavey: :p) a few days later that I found out what had actually happened. I was stunned :sobbing:

Both Bepa and Nastya played great tennis, so it sux that one of them had to lose. Having said that, I think that Bepa got a BS call at *7-6 (MP#5 :help: ). IMO, Nastya hit a BH long during that rally (the crowd went "oooohhhh" when it happened), but I guess that's life

Death to that netcord at 15-15 :fiery:

Oh yeh, one thing I forgot, after Alicia, Anastasia and Sylvia (notice it's first name basis now :) ), then cry baby Zvonoreva came out. I went up to her and asked if I could have her autograph and she didn't even look at me but said "NO". What a miserable bloody cow she is! All the other girls were so, so friendly and amenable - whoever asked for their autograph and for a picture they gave it to them, the only one who didn't was Zvonoreva! Miserable on court and it seems miserable off court, and this was before she played a match today. Anyway, it didn't spoil anything because I'm not all that bothered about her. Apart from Kim and Kuzzy, I got most people's autograph. I also had a word with Maria Vento-Kabchi - we spoke for at least 5 mins about her match with Justine in Warsaw and yet again, another lovely girl. I know I sound star struck, but these girls are so lovely and friendly that it's quite surprising - apart from Cry Baby of course.link (http://wtaworld.com/showthread.php?t=172398)

That's a good draw for Vera to get to a QF with Maria.
But the way Vera has played this year, she can lose to anyone.

Jon Wertheim's take on Bepa:
11. Vera Zvonareva. She of the hyperactive tear ducts seems to have settled in as a perennial also-ran who forever will nestle in that 12-18 range, earning a nice living but seldom mounting a real challenge. She has a tough first-rounder against streaky Marlene Weingartner.

It's a tough first rounder because Vera has been losing first matches this year.
Right before Rome, Vera lost her first match in 4 of 5 tournaments.

Centre Court (from 11.00hrs)
1. Myskina vs. Vinci (to finish 46 10)
2. Clijsters vs. Kuznetsova (NB 11.30hrs)
3. Douchevina vs. Myskina or Vinci
4. Doubles Semifinal TBA

2. Black/Huber vs. Srebotnik/Tanasugarn

4. Doubles Semifinal TBA

Court 2 (NB 12.30hrs)
1. Perebiynis/Vento-Kabchi vs. Raymond/Stubbs

This schedule is crazy. They'll probably have to play two matches back to back.

But just imagine if Nastya was playing doubles with Bepa. She could have been forced to play four matches in one day  (although there might be a rule against that)

BTW, they got a walkover in the QF because Vinci had a right shoulder strain

Another report on Bepa from Eastbourne, courtesy of !<bloc_party>!:
Vera Z against Vinci was a match on court two, I was running in and out of centre to watch it, but my seat (at the right end of the west stand) allowed me to stand up and follow the match with scores too. Poor Vera, she was being quite hilarious. Her match was moved forward and she was blaming the fact that she didn't have enough time to practice for her poor play :tape: I got a great pic of her crying, too. Some people asked her for an auto. after the match, she almost killed them :tape:

Here (http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v697/bloc_party/IMG_0172.jpg) is the pic that was mentioned

A year ago, this is the time that Vera's game took off.
She has a lot of points to defend this summer.
Yet, she's in the top 20 in 2005 prizemoney. So she's still doing okay.

And with no Suarez at Wimbledon, her doubles half is a little easier.

Masha has to beat Llagostera (who is really good on grass) and others first to reach the QF. She seems not so dominant like last year....

Marlene is completely out of form these days - its a pity. So much talent wasted!

Other topic:

She is a very inconsistent player, but she likes grass. If she isn't nervous, I think she is capable of an upset. Afterall, she pushed Bepa to 7-5 in the 1st set in Memphis
