Why mention Sprem in here, Sharap0va? Sprem has alot of talent but Vera is the better tennis player right now.

I have been waiting for another Bepa vs Nastya matchup for a long time :bounce:

Bepa will have to play some smart tennis, but I am confident that she has a very good chance in this match. She has to put Nastya on the back foot from the beginning, and I think that she needs to take some pace off the ball and put it deep into the court, coz Nastya has shown that she can handle players who rely primarily on power.

Bepa has the game to win, so it will come down to whether or not she believes that she can win. I really think that she isn't intimitated by Nastya, so this should be a great match, which will hopefully result in another top 10 conquest for Bepa.

goldenlox
Jul 31st, 2004, 12:23 PM
In my head, I thought she was going to play Maria. I think Vera has a chance.
Nastya was down 5-2 last night, and Maria just went away. Lost 9 straight games.

Keep your focus the whole match.

I also thinking vera has a great chance as well.
She is a counterpuncher like Myskina... Match is going to be interesting... Lots of rallies...

Epigone
Jul 31st, 2004, 04:45 PM
Bepa is a counterpuncher, but she also has an awesome offensive game. If she gets into the zone where she feels like she can beat her opponent with sheer pace off the ground, she will attack. I think that Bepa counterpunches when she is lacking the confidence to go for winners, or when she thinks that it is the best way to wear down her opponent. Although I won't get to see the match against Nastya, I really hope that Bepa comes out blazing from both wings and blasts Nastya into submission. Nastya will probably, of course, run down many balls, but Bepa has the ability to swing the ball from side to side, and she will cause Nastya some real problems.

*hingis_forever*
Jul 31st, 2004, 04:49 PM
I love them both but I feel Bepa needs it more to get into the top 10 before her Toronto points come off! From what I saw of Nastya last night and Bepa against Serena last week, I feel like Bepa was a little more aggressive and therefore I feel like she will win!
I think something like 75 64

goldenlox
Jul 31st, 2004, 04:52 PM

It will come down to the key points. Who breaks, who holds.

Epigone

It will come down to the key points. Who breaks, who holds.Yep, Bepa needs to consolidate her breaks. She so often goes up a break in big matches, and then is broken right back.

Nastya's serve isn't the strongest in the world, so Bepa should try to attack it, and then really focus when it's her turn to serve. I don't want to hear about double faults on BP :o.

Vera has to take this match as a positive. She played very well. Vera went for her shots at big moments.
She's playing well, and she'll be tested big time in Montreal.
Vera has to stay focused on each point. Forget the points that are over.
And don't break rackets.

. “I remember when my mother bought me my very own racket,” Dementieva says. “I was nine, and at first I thought I could not hit with it because it was so precious. Ever since then, I’ve really looked after my rackets and when I see people throw or even break them, it makes me so annoyed.”

Vera emots after points. It comes very natural to her. Vera played very well at the key moments.

Vera is a fighter...she already got over that loss, and even though she lost in doubles...she was just as competitive in that match as she was in singles. I use to think that all her emotional outbreaks were a negative, but she slams her racket and comes right back and plays an amazing point, its just her thing and people may not like it, but it works for her.

For all the hardcore Vera fans, who is her coach/who does she travel with. During the match, ESPN showed Nastya's coach several times, but never showed anyone in Vera's camp. Also, does Vera still train in Florida.

Did anyone notice Nastya watching Vera doubles match till the end, I guess its true that her, vera and elena L are really tight.

Doesn't she gain 17 points because she got 42 round points so far and 10 quality points so that of course makes 52. Then she has 18th tournament is 35 so...

52-35=17
1941+17=1958

You probably right, but she needs to add at least 50 points to pass the sisters. One more win will do the trick. And then only Ai or Paola making semis could prevent her from reaching Top 10. But she should focus on simply winning a match after match. Forget about Top 10. This tournament is very winnable. And now with departure of Lena, the winner of Masha - Verun-Chick will have an excellent shot at semis. Dementieva plays a lousy first round from time to time. But she would have been a completely different animal in quarters.

Vera is going to have to play a great match. And she has to finish. If Vera has game point, or set point, or match point, Vera needs to close it out.
And talking about winning a Tier I, when you struggle against Mattek, is wasting time.
Vera should just prepare for this match. One point at a time. She's going to hit winners. Don't get frustrated.
When a point is over, forget it. You have to learn how to beat top 10 players at big tournaments.
And you learn by doing. So go do it.

And don't worry about getting upset, breaking your racket, crying - it's all okay.
Whatever you're comfortable with. Just stay focused when the ball's in play.

She really did play well and I thoroughly enjoyed her performance. I said I can't see Vera making the Top 5, but her compsure yesterday was great. Her game has always been beautiful, but it seems like she has even more power and control on her groundies AND serve. That serve

Just got the real scoop. Vera is still working with Julia, but Lex will be the main travelling coach. I guess Julia wants to stay home with her kids.

An no Vera is not dating Lex...he is way too old for her anyway...yuck.
Thanks.. ;)
