Call me a skeptic but I want to know what connection Megan Falcon (USA) had in order to get a WC into the Tier III Bogota Main Draw? :tape: I mean this is almost as bad as Olivia L. getting WC into AO and I am sure there were countless more deserving girls that could have gotten this WC.

Here is some info about Falcon:

Age: 17
Ambition: Becoming #1 in the WTA
Ranking: #876 WTA, #59 in ITF Girls 18 Singles
2003 Record: 10-11, including 0-4 on clay
2003 Best Result: SF of 10K in Felixstowe
Career Record: 12-16, including 0-5 on clay

I believe this will be her first WTA MD match. It will be against tour veteran clay court specialist Gala Leon Garcia of Spain. I predict GLG wins 6-1, 6-0.

Falcon will spend rest of the week sightseeing in Bogota w/ buddie Harkelroad :tape: but she probably will be doing it alone since Ashley at least knows how to play on clay and will still be in the tournament.

Does anybody have any additional info on Falcon? She probably got this WC through her management company.

there were rumours (I repeat: rumours!) that she is actually 2 older than her real age... and that was the reason for her sudden withdrawal from AO Open 2004 (where she was committed to play until the last minute). Apparently, some other players protested her playing AO.

I saw her last fall on 2 different surfaces and I wasn't impressed at all. She has good flat forehand and serve, but they are too inconsistent and not much variety... she also behaved a little like a spoiled brat questioning a lot of calls.

Most likely Lei Clijsters had a hand in it. ;)

No seriously lots of girls get WC through management companies and their ties to tournaments. My guess is that it is IMG.

Apparently, some other players protested her playing AO.These rumours are probably true and also surrounding other players, notably one Russian player who is now sollidly in the top 100 (they also say that she is actually two years older), I prefer not to mention her name though.

It is well known that the practice of cheating with age happens a lot in football (where Sout-American or African players are often two years older than they say) and it has also probably happened in the tennis world. By entering udner a younger age a player can score better junior results, get a higher junior ranking and thus more publicity, more sponsors and more income !

But on Falcon I can say that she may not be a future top player but she certainly is better than many people think.

Kuznetsova? :secret:I didn't say it...

I talked to a family member of her who claims those rumours are false but there are indeed numerous people who claim that Kuznetsova is actually 2 years older and that this allowed her to become junior nr. 1, since I like Svetlana I wish not to further comment on these rumours, I have no idea wether they are true, I only know that this rumour is going 'round for some time now.

I personally know Megan and I can say for a 100% fact that she is not fudging her age.

I was speculating that perhaps Colombia is trying to recruit Falcon to play under their flag. It wouldn't be the first time one country has laid claim to players who grew up in another country.

Where do these rumours that surround a couple of players then come from ?

lol She's never been affilitated with nor lived in Columbia in her life. What in the world is going on here? :tape:

She grew up in Northern California, left high school for independent study to play tennis after her sophomore year and now lives in Florida.

William Hunt, I don't know what's going on with players from other countries, nor do I really care. All I know is Megan's not fudging her age. It's as simple as that.

About getting a wild card, tournament directors can give out a wild card to just about anyone.

Megan sure did prove you all wrong in this thread.

I've never seen her play, but she's had some good "success" on the main tour when is there.

She played her only other main draw match at Stanford last year, losing to none other than Stanford Semifinalist, Maria Vento-Kabchi in THREE sets, 4-6 6-2 6-2.

The mystery isn't solved... regardless of how good she is, there was still no obvious reason to give her a WC here.

Also, her previous success seems to be limited to taking one set off Vento-Kabchi... she also had Challenger losses to (deep breath) Anna Eugenia Nefedova, Chantal Coombs, Moe Kawatoko, Ahsha Rolle, Ana Lucia Migliarini de Leon and Laura Vallverdu in 2003. All in straight sets.

Why be jealous to why she got a wild card? She girl got it, and proved that she can be on the same court as the best WTA players top 100. She also played an exhibition in Bogota downtown 19th of February 2004. She went 3 sets with Fabiola Zuluaga. I also investigated that out of all American girls from 16-18 years old she has beat the highest ranked player?
I guess papa Williams has found a new player to work with!!

Did you also know that during the challengers that she played in the US and Mexico she was working under a new coach, which she lost every match with.

I know for a fact that she was very frustrated and was about to give up on pro tennis. She is a great student and was getting herself ready for college. She then got lucky to get discoverd by a powerful man tennis and now she is on her way.

She is the first ever amature to not only play WTA event in South America but also win a match.

Go Megan and all players working hard

Megan wins first round!!!!!!!!!! Who was wrong now????
Megan goes 3 with Ceravona, to bad she got hurt in the third....

Ceravona went 3 with Justine Hennin few months back and beat players like Bovina in the last year and was as high as 37 WTA.

Megan could become the sure thing

Yeah, right, people are jealous of Megan Falcon. LOL

Falcon didn't prove people wrong.

We're just wondering why she got a Main Draw WC. Even by winning the tournement, it's still wouldn't explain why she got a WC.

wow, you must be some bitter little girl. Getting a wild card is not up to her. I guess you should praise her management company. go to copacolsanita web and you will see tha a 1.2 million dollar endorsment deal is being announced for Falcon. I guess more reason for you to not like her.

Let me tell you something. If she didn't prove you wrong then I guess she just made you scream and cry when you saw her result.

lol lol lol lol lol lol lol lol loll

Go Falcon Go Vadisona Go Kirkland

I'm starting to dislike the girl just from reading Tenpal's posts.

I didn't know anything about her (still don't) except she is a pretty girl, but Tenpal is single handedly turning me against her.

Maybe I'd better put him on ignore before I lose all reason. ;)

1. I'm not bitter.
2. I don't dislike her, I don't even know her.
3. I didn't disagree that she got a WC, i was WONDERING WHAT WAS THE REASON why she got a WC.
4. She didn't prove people wrong in the sense that people didn't question her talent, they wonder why she got a WC.
5. Yes, I did cry when she won. My life was ruined. Sniff.
Hey, Im sorry Hairspray Queen..

I got a little dramatic. you are right. I jsut think it is very hard to know why people get signed with Management companies and why they get Wild Cards. I guess it was some luck, but she did take advantage of it.

I also know many eastern European players who get nothing.
Sorry to be so harsh,
