A lucky loser continued her winning ways in Antwerp today. Myriam Casanova, who gained entry into the Proximus Diamond Games main draw as a lucky loser, defeated Czech qualifier Klara Koukalova, 4-6, 6-3, 6-4 to advance to Saturday's semifinals.
It is the first final four appearance in a Tier II event for Casanova, who won her lone career tournament title at Brussels in 2002. Coached by her father Leo, Myriam and her older sister, Daniela, trained with Melanie Molitor, Martina Hingis' mother and former coach, while growing up. The Casanova sisters often received Hingis' hand-me-down adidas clothes.

After dropping the first set today, Casanova's consistent depth on her ground strokes gave her an edge in the baseline exchanges during the final two sets.

The 18-year-old Swiss will play either second-seeded Kim Clijsters or ninth-seeded Magdalena Maleeva in Saturday's semifinals.

Silvia Farina Elia secured a semifinal spot earlier today when her quarterfinal opponent, fifth-seeded Swiss Patty Schnyder, retired with a groin injury while trailing 7-6(6), 1-0. The eighth-seeded Italian will play either Denisa Chladkova or Karolina Sprem for a place in the final.
