Maria Kirilenko (RUS) d. (3) Tamarine Tanasugarn (THA) 63 62

Good Luck Pratt

Feb 21st, 2004, 12:09 AM
I'll agree that it's great to see Nicole doing so well. She has had a solid start to the year, and if she can do well her next few tourneys she should break the top 50 again.

Would be great to see Nicole win a title as she has fought so hard her entire career and to win would be a great payoff for her.

Feb 21st, 2004, 06:40 AM
:worship: Huge Congrats for Nicole. :worship:

And goodluck for the final- take the tittle!!

Pratt Wins First Tour Title

HYDERABAD, India - At the age of 30, Australian Nicole Pratt (right) has fulfilled every professional tennis player's dream - to win their first title.
Pratt, runner-up to Monica Seles at the Shanghai event in 2001, went one better at the $140,000 ING Vysya Hyderabd Open Saturday, defeating first-time finalist, 17-year-old Russian Maria Kirilenko, 76(3) 61. The win should see Pratt on the verge of a Top 50 ranking once again, while Kirilenko will edge past her previous career-high of No.117 to around No.115.

Fourth-seeded Pratt was pushed to three sets twice during the week - in the first round by Indian wildcard Sania Mirza and in the semifinals by No.2 seed Marion Bartoli. She becomes the first woman in 2004 to win their first WTA Tour singles title.

Kirilenko's previous best result at a WTA Tour event was a quarterfinal finish in Hyderabad 12 months ago. The 2002 US Open junior champion also reached the third round at Flushing Meadows last year in her Grand Slam debut.

For winning the singles title, Pratt wins US$22,000, while runner-up Kirilenko earns $12,000.

History was created in the doubles event, as 17-year-old Mirza became the youngest-ever Indian - male or female - to win a professional Tour event and the first woman from her country to capture a WTA Tour title.

As a wildcard team with experienced South Africa Liezel Huber, Mirza helped defeat Chinese No.3 seeds Li Ting and Sun Tian Tian 76(1) 64 in Saturday's final. It was Huber's 10th WTA Tour doubles title.

This is great news!!!

lets hope there more fortune in the future for u . . . .CONGRATS AGAIN !!!

Feb 22nd, 2004, 12:31 AM
Fantastic outcome. Nicole has shown what can be done with a bit of perserverance. Her mental attitude is great and there are many other players out there who could learn from her.

Feb 22nd, 2004, 02:14 AM
well done Nicole :bounce: :worship:

Feb 22nd, 2004, 11:57 AM
:aparty: Congrats Nicole!!!! :smooch:

Feb 25th, 2004, 11:29 AM
Truly deserved, Nicole has put so much work in, that it would've been sad if she hadn't got a title in her career. Intresting to see were this takes her. With the monkey of her back she could win a few more.... or is this the apex??

Great to see that she didn't suffer too much of a letdown to beat Zheng. Next Sugiyama who she has a great record against.

Feb 25th, 2004, 08:03 PM
Well sugiyama won . . . . but still won't diminsh the past week nicole has had

Feb 26th, 2004, 08:08 AM
yeah but pratty should have got more than a 62 62 loss

Feb 28th, 2004, 08:34 PM
Good Luck to Nicole in Qatar this week . . very interesting match against Jelena Dokic in the 1st round . . . one that is very winnable for Nicole

Mar 2nd, 2004, 09:26 PM
lost 1st round to dokic 0-6 6-3 6-4

good match for nicole though . . . . she also cracked the top 50 and number 45 in the world i think which is great for her, lets hope she conitnues this performance

if im correct she has only 1st round points to defend from French Open and Wimbledon

Mar 4th, 2004, 12:12 AM
The only real crap results this year is the 6-2 6-2 loss from Sugiyama and that loss to petrova the rest of the matches shes played very good

Mar 4th, 2004, 11:09 AM
This has been Nicoles best year . . . . . . . . . . although the past few years have been good lead up work and that was capitalized in her first title a few weeks ago

Mar 10th, 2004, 05:46 AM
why didnt she go to Indian Wells?

Mar 10th, 2004, 08:15 AM
Just decided to have a week off ??? !!!

wish she played though

Mar 10th, 2004, 09:49 AM
shes and idiot for not playing

Mar 10th, 2004, 08:06 PM
Maybe she is tired ????

did she hurt herself in her loss to jelena ???

Mar 11th, 2004, 10:27 AM
From Tennis Aus

Nicole Pratt is recovering in Melbourne from a strained left abdomen muscle.

Mar 12th, 2004, 07:41 AM

Mar 12th, 2004, 07:55 AM
thought i heard somethin about her being injured against Dokic

good luck in ya comback

Mar 12th, 2004, 01:50 PM
I think it would be fair to assume if Nicole isn't playing there must be a good reason for it, as it seems she puts herself out there for the maximum number of tournaments her body can cope with.

Anyway, get well soon Nicole. Hope we seen you on the courts soon, as Top 40 is not that far out of her reach.

Mar 12th, 2004, 09:03 PM
Definately Vicky well said

im pretty sure Nicole doesnt have any points at French Open or Wimbledon to defend, and lost early on in quite a few tournaments in between, before and after those

If she played well she could join Alicia inside the Top 30

Mar 14th, 2004, 04:46 PM
If she played well she could join Alicia inside the Top 30
then sam can join too

Mar 14th, 2004, 08:18 PM
Would love to see that happen . .. be like back in 2000-2001 i think when Sam, Racheal, Nicole and Alicia were in top 80

Mar 27th, 2004, 08:08 AM
Pratt d Parra 7-6 6-7 6-4

as normal a gutsy performance by Nicole

Mar 27th, 2004, 08:15 AM

Mar 27th, 2004, 09:47 AM

Mar 27th, 2004, 09:04 PM
Pratt retired without ball being hit with an abdominal strain against dokic

perhaps thats an answer why she didnt play last week

Mar 28th, 2004, 03:42 AM
Sven that WAS the answer i already posted that was the answer :p

Mar 28th, 2004, 08:50 PM

still a good tournament by nicole

Apr 16th, 2004, 11:39 AM
yes it was and now she can concentrate on the fed cup vs russia next weekend.
These two wins should also help her move back towards the top 40/top 30 in the rankings

Apr 16th, 2004, 11:25 PM
Definately the rock in our team

lets hope that fighting spirit shows up

May 1st, 2004, 09:51 PM
Nicole plays Anca Barna first up

then a second round meeting with Nadia Petrova who also missed the fed cup through injury

May 2nd, 2004, 05:55 AM
good draw apart from the fact barna has the home crowd behind her

May 2nd, 2004, 08:09 AM
Its a tough 1st match for Nicole! Barna's a dogged fighter, similar game to Nicole really!!

May 3rd, 2004, 09:58 PM
Anca Barna (GER) d. Nicole Pratt (AUS) 46 76(4) 64

May 11th, 2004, 10:38 AM
Still not that bad by Nicky

Franchesa is having a stellar year

May 11th, 2004, 01:58 PM
3 loses in a row now for Nicole, she must get a win in her next event, cant have her moving on to grass on a losing streak!

Nicole has no points to defend until the hardcourt season in L.A end of July/start of August

May 11th, 2004, 10:39 PM
Cool thats good news about her points . . . basically any wins at French or Wimbledon is awesome for her

May 11th, 2004, 11:02 PM
i remember last yr she was in a huge slump and was considering going back 2 the challenger circuit. hope were not having a repeat of that now :tape:

May 11th, 2004, 11:23 PM
No dont think so

just the fact that Tier 1 always brings hard matches and Nicole has been unlucky in always drawing seeds

May 12th, 2004, 04:14 AM
I'm not panicking just yet as these losses need to be kept in perspective. It's not as if she has lost 3 easy gimme matches 6-0 6-0 on her favourite surface. All she needs is to get a tourney with an easy draw and this will be behind her.

BTW what is Nicole like on clay? She has never had outstanding results at FO has she?

May 12th, 2004, 06:47 AM
never passed the 2nd round! Clay is her worst surface I think

May 12th, 2004, 07:45 AM
pratty is playing with elena dementieva
they play ASV and pierce in 1st round :scared:

May 12th, 2004, 08:14 AM
Clay would be her worst surface since u would have to create your own pace on the ball and thats just not in Nicoles game plan unfortunately

Just chill and get some practice for grass nicole

May 12th, 2004, 09:39 AM
i would think Clay is her fav surface? :o coz its just long rallies and power isnt good enough and thats Nicoles game? :o

May 12th, 2004, 10:26 AM
no way is clay her fave she just knows how to adapt her game to it

May 12th, 2004, 10:56 AM
i would think Clay is her fav surface? :o coz its just long rallies and power isnt good enough and thats Nicoles game? :o

thats what ud think
ud think the same for lleyton aswell but again it isnt

May 12th, 2004, 11:37 AM
firstly Aussies are not brought up on clay so it is like a foreign surface to them . . while some can play on it not many have been succesful to a high extent

secondly nicole is a professional and they can adapt to different surfaces, conditions and enviroments

Although the clay season is small nicole has always lacked results and in no way or form is clay her favourite surface and probably is her least preferred surface . . . especaily with her serve cause the clay would slow it right down

May 13th, 2004, 10:20 PM
Nicole is into the quarters of Doubz in Rome . .She beat Peirce and ASV 1st round then 2nd seeds Huber and Sugiyama next round

Well Done

May 15th, 2004, 10:22 PM

good but bad . . . . .

May 17th, 2004, 11:37 PM

 Pratt/Wheeler

May 18th, 2004, 09:48 AM
Good win by Nicole hope she can beat Frazier or at least take it to 3 sets

May 18th, 2004, 10:29 AM
Frazier is having a great year and like Nicole gets better with age . . . . be a very close match and Nicole will have to play well to get past her

but definately a 3 setter

May 18th, 2004, 02:50 PM
azza enough with the pratt-wheeler remarks man

May 18th, 2004, 10:27 PM
Pratt/Wheeler (AUS/AUS) d. Casanova/Muller (SUI/GER) 64 62

Good Victory

May 19th, 2004, 04:27 PM
Frazier is having a great year and like Nicole gets better with age . . . . be a very close match and Nicole will have to play well to get past her

Frazier Def Pratt 6-1 6-2 :o :o :o :o

May 19th, 2004, 10:05 PM
that was a misprint

i meant 3 GAMES . . not 3 sets ???

May 20th, 2004, 09:18 AM

May 23rd, 2004, 11:31 AM
Pratt's ranking has risen from 46 to 44

a good shwoing from here to Us would possibly see her around Moliks ranking near the early thirties

May 24th, 2004, 10:51 PM
Congrats on winning 1st round

a seed is next but lets improve on ya best french open performance

May 25th, 2004, 01:58 AM
Pratt's ranking should be top 40 after the French Open regardless of whether she beats Dementieva or not.

Pratt is currently 37, players that could jump ahead of her as the tournament progresses are Mandula, Likhovtseva, and Kostanic

May 25th, 2004, 09:05 AM
I would love to see Nicole beat Elena
mmmmm all those quality points

May 25th, 2004, 09:49 AM
i dont see why she cant:
-they both have crap serves but atleast nicoles is more consistent
-nicole has the type of game to drive elena crazy
-elena has had pretty poor results at slams lately

May 25th, 2004, 02:10 PM
Hi :bigwave:
Nicole seems to be playing a lot better on clay this year (Last year she only won one match on the dirt :uhoh: )
Good luck against Dementieva!

May 25th, 2004, 11:00 PM
Ditto a victory over Elena would be awesome and it is acheiveable . . . . from the scoreline aginst Pisnik shows that Nicole might have to only play abit better

May 27th, 2004, 10:22 AM
lost 2nd round in straight sets

Get ready for Wimbly Nic !!

May 31st, 2004, 04:01 AM
Allez Nicoletta!!!! Tear up the grass hun :D

May 31st, 2004, 11:15 AM

someone supporting nicole who isnt obligated to cos they r australian

Jun 1st, 2004, 10:05 AM
Lots of people like Nicole cause of her fighting qualities

Jun 1st, 2004, 10:25 AM
I cant believe that Nicole thinks that by skipping Birmingham she is going to perform better at Wimbledon, what a load of shit. She has blown any outside chance she had of a seeding now she would have been better off not playing Eastbourne and playing Birmingham

Jun 3rd, 2004, 01:47 PM
Actually I think it was probably a smart move on Nicole's behalf as if you look back over the past couple of years she has begun to get more injuries. So by cutting back on her schedule she is probably hoping to prolong her career.

As for the possible seeding at Wimbeldon, I don't think that was ever really on the cards. She would have to get a boatload of points to be in contention, as Alicia is borderline at this stage and she is way in front of Nicole.

Jun 3rd, 2004, 02:09 PM
Nicole will be ranked 41 after French Open!

I cant believe that she is skipping Birmingham!! She's played some of her best tennis there in the passed taking out some big scalps like Testud and Raymond. I thought it was a good chance for some points and a seeding chance!

I hope she asks for a last minute wildcard! She's already had a week off at the French open!

Jun 3rd, 2004, 02:36 PM

Would reckon Nicole would do ok there . . . while its a top field she is capable of beating over half the field in the MD

Considering how well she has done in the past, a WC might be a possibility

Jun 12th, 2004, 01:56 PM

Jun 22nd, 2004, 03:16 AM
Thats jumping the gun

its just a form slump . . she will work her way out of it in no time

Better Luck in doubles

Jun 22nd, 2004, 10:20 AM
No Nicole should not ret :smash: this is like sam on clay sam was tradgic on the clay losing matches like 61 60 , 62 60 :o just wait till the hard courts Nicole will be kickin some ass :woohoo:

Jun 22nd, 2004, 10:37 AM
nicole was up 3-1 b4 the rain delay and only won 1 more game
that is really pathetic cos so much of nicoles game is about fighting and experience

Jun 22nd, 2004, 11:37 AM
Grass is Nicole's worst surface, she hasnt won a match on it for over two years so give her a break!!! She's still having the best year of her career and looking at the rankings, Pratt's could still move up to 38 after Wimbledon depending on other results despite her first round loss,

Jun 22nd, 2004, 12:06 PM
Think some people need to put this situation in perspective. As soon as she loses one match, it is suggested she should retire or she is pathetic. If she doesn't play her schedule as to your liking she is stupid.

Get a grip folks, it is only a game, and Nicole has to do what she thinks is best for her career. The fact that she was up 3-1 before the rain break and only won 1 game afterwards makes me think something out of the ordinary happened because she never loses to a player such as she did last night. I am sure she flogged her guts out as usual as is not feeling happy about her loss.

So instead of harping on with the negatives why not find something positive to comment on.

Jun 22nd, 2004, 11:08 PM
I agree what you say but what positives could u find from that match ??

that she was leading before the rain delay ??
that her opponent played a superior game on the day ??

Jun 23rd, 2004, 02:20 AM
nicole has been in a slump for a while i didnt make my comment about her retiring based on this one match

Jun 23rd, 2004, 03:08 AM
Wimbledon couldn't have been much of a goal for Nicole anyway, she didn't play Birmingham (a tournie she usually does well in) and relying on getting match tough and some wins at Eastbourne is a tough ask with the quality of the field there.

I wonder if she's scaling down her schedule and looking to peak around the US hardcourt season or maybe her abdominal injury is still playing up. It VERY unlike her to lose like that so Im going to be a biased Aussie and say there is a specific reason!

It's up to Nicole to decide when to retire. If she gets flogged every match but enjoying it out there then who are we to say that she should pack it in!

Jun 23rd, 2004, 12:17 PM
I think it very much looks as if Nicole is scaling back. I note that she did not play mixed doubles at the French, which surprised me as I thought she normally played at all of the GS. I think it may have to do with age, being more injury prone and an attempt to prolong her career that is resulting in her playing less tennis. I think she is down to something like 23 tournaments at the moment, a couple of years ago it would have been 30.

Jun 23rd, 2004, 12:35 PM
doing 30 tournaments a year is  ( Lauren breadmore :p )

Well Hard courts next Nicoles fav surface :yeah:

Jun 24th, 2004, 09:54 AM
She'll do much better there

Jun 24th, 2004, 10:05 AM
Pratts is playing mixed doubles with Rick Leach at Wimbledon Go Pratty :D

Jun 24th, 2004, 10:44 AM

lets see if she can pick up some points and money in her doubles experience

Did anyone see Nicoles press conference after her loss.

Didn't see it - but a report I got was that Nicole's attitude after her loss wasn't great.

Basically said that she knew that grass isn't the surface for her game and that it was no surprise that she lost. Said she was now going to practice for Fed Cup but then suddenly realised during the interview she was still in the doubles :D

If the report is true, its a bit uncharacteristic for her to be so blase about such a big tournament. Interesting that her preparation indicated she didn't hold Wimbledon in that great of a regard.

Hope she doesn't think that she can suddenley switch on great form when she feels like it. I would've thought her game (with her slice, flat forehand and being low to the ground) would be suited to grass (it was first decent slam performance many years back - qualifying and winning a rnd) and that this was a good opportunity to push towards the top 30!

wouldnt be at all suprised if she doesnt get to play singles at fed cup and they put sam in, i know on current form i would

Finally Nicole's back on track - she beat Jankovic 63 64 in Stanford - AWESOME WIN.... apparently Jankovic's best surface. American hardcourts bring out the best in Pratty, it's a weak field too hope she does well coz she's got HEAPS of points to defend.

Jul 22nd, 2004, 05:24 AM
nicole  she normally gets much closer to sugiyama

Jul 22nd, 2004, 08:18 AM
She used to OWN Ai, winning 4 times out of 5. Since Ai squeezed out the victory in the US last year, she's won three in a row.

Nice to see Nic winning a match here and there. :)

Since grass and Fed Cup I wondered if it was going downhill BIGTIME. But a decent tournie or two top 30 could still beckon. She needs a BIG victory over someone decent tho!

Jul 22nd, 2004, 09:04 AM
Just returning to form and two good victories over Kostinac and Mandula . . . lets hope she keeps winning a match here and there and her ranking and confidence will rise !!

Nicole Pratt's Road to the Australian Open

November 18, 2004

By Ian Burrows

Nicole Pratt has reached at least the round of 32 at the last two Australian Opens. But with her first tour title under her belt and feeling as good as ever the No.2 ranked Australian believes 2005 is the time to step up.

Following a season in which she came within two places of her career-high ranking, the Queenslander is confident sheís got everything on track to go that step further and produce her finest year yet. Her relationship with long time coach Noel Blundell is flourishing, her tournament schedule has been tactically thought out down to the very last week and her fitness is at its usual high standard.

Now itís time to bring everything together in the lead-up to the 31-year-oldís favourite event, Januaryís Australian Open.

"I couldnít ask for anything more in my preparation," says Pratt, whoís back in full training mode following a three-week end of season break. "Iím really confident Iím doing everything I can to get ready for the Australian Open.

"Ideally I want to win some matches before the Open so I have the confidence going in, but at the moment physically and mentally Iím doing everything I can."

A jubilant Nicole Pratt reached the third round of Australian Open 2004 defeating No.17 seed Meghann Shaughnessy in the first round.

Pratt will use the Uncle Tobys Hardcourts (http://www.tennisaustralia.com.au/pages/default.aspx?id=4&PageID=220) on the Gold Coast and the Richard Luton Properties Canberra Womenís Classic (http://www.tennisaustralia.com.au/pages/default.aspx?id=4&PageID=224) to fine-tune her game before the big one.

"Itís really strong the competition (on the Gold Coast) so you can see how youíre matching up and how youíve improved in the off time," she says. "Iíve specifically chosen to play Canberra the week after because Iíve heard the conditions are really, really tough there and itís hot and thatís a tournament I think I can do really well in."

But as she explains winning matches at the lead-ins isnít everything.

"Probably the first couple of matches are like Ďright, letís get the game right so by the time I walk into the Australian Open I have everything settled," Pratt explains. "The best success Iíve had at the Aussie Open the last two years, a third and a fourth round, (came after) I lost the first round the week before in Sydney.

"So ideally it doesnít look like great preparation, but Iíd done the work and the building blocks were there and there was still a lot of confidence going into the Australian Open. Ideally you want to win but ultimately you want to feel comfortable with your game."

The veteran baseliner wants to go at least one better than her 2003 fourth round finish in Melbourne, which was a 10-year best by an Australian. But to reach her goals Pratt knows it will take hours of hard work throughout the summer. In the early parts of her preparation she will concentrate on strength and fitness before turning her focus to on-court work.

Gruelling fitness regime throughout November.

"Initially itís about building size and strength back into my legs so I can get my speed and endurance (up)," she says. "Throughout November Iíll be doing three to four sessions in the gym and then probably another three cardio sessions on top of that. And Iím still doing a little bit of tennis.

"In December it becomes predominantly tennis but Iíll still have a fitness component to my day, it just wonít be as extensive as it is in November."

One of the tourís most gritty competitors, Pratt will begin the season on the Gold Coast in front of family and friends at Royal Pines Resort. On her way south sheíll stop in Canberra for the first time of her career, before embarking on her Australian Open campaign.

There would be no better way to kick-start a big year than with an impressive showing at Melbourne Park. And with the way things are shaping for the speedy Queenslander an eye-catching result is right on the cards.

this is great news that pratty is playing in canberra instead of asking for a sydney wildcard wish she had of done this last year as well!

Nov 18th, 2004, 07:02 AM

Interesting Choice !!

Jan 17th, 2005, 05:13 AM
Nicole must be quite injured not to play in her fav tournie aussie open

Jan 17th, 2005, 06:21 AM
Nicole is playing though

Jan 17th, 2005, 08:32 AM
oh wtf :o my bad :smash: @ me

Jan 20th, 2005, 05:55 AM
For the first time in 6-7 years Nicole is in her first rut. The limited preparation with her injury may not have helped however her form of recent time times mid-late 2004 (particuarly her Fed Cup and Wimby efforts) had warning bells for a downward patch in 2005.

Wonder if her high effort game - low errors and low winners - just isn't cutting it anymore or she's just going thru a rough patch and still capable of some top 40 play

I hope this is just a rut but you see so many big hitters around now and it's hard to see how Nic can still compete at a top30-40 level.
