yup... elke clijsters is a pretty good doubles player, deosnt get enough credit for doubles IMO... her ranking isnt high enough to get her into the better tournaments and i think players a cautious at picking her because of her poor single record

but she DOES have 6 ITF doubles titles

Kim: Elke played extremely well tonight...
Elke: So did Kim hè (both smiling)
Elke: We do understand eachother off court and we know how to pep up eachother on court. We know what to expect.
Kim: She's a great doublesplayer. She has possibilities and this can encourage her a lot. We had so much fun, I rarely see my sis... Goh, I become emotional .... (tears in her eyes)

Elke - okay, let's think of our game plane

Kim - when you serve, right after move off the court. When I serve, don't even come on the court.

Elke - good plan. The less I play, the bigger chance I have of winning a match.

Elke was the #1 girls doubles player in 2002 & 2003.

She won the junior doubles titles at Wimbly & the US Open last year (w/Flipkens). If you look at her juniors profile and results, she has had overwhelmingly better success in doubles.

I hardly think this match was Kim doing all the work.

Selima

i have no sympathy for elke due ot her pathetic work effort. if she actually put in some effort off-court then she could achieve her potential, which is a comfortable top 200 player, earning enough to keep her going for a good few years on tour

I saw the match and Kim and Elke were simply the best!!

I don't agree with people telling Kim did all the work, Elke made some fantastic volleys!!!!!! And she served pretty well!!

At the end when they won the last point they began to dance before kissing each other  It was funny

I think they can make it to the semifinals because I saw Mandula/Loit and they struggled to win their match and didn't play that good so...

How cool! I wish they'd pair up more often. It would also be neat if Elke was on Kim's level; as it would be nice to see a Williams/Clijsters rivalry :)

I agree with you Axel, Elke played really well. In the beginning she even was the better player on court. She was really good at the net and she hit some really nice lobs. Also her first serve was really good – she managed to hit some aces, while Kim’s first serve wasn’t working at all. They truly are a great team :)

Elke was good, much better than in her singles match. She should concentrate on doubles.

Well, I was there and I have to say it was a really entertaining match! :D Elke played really well and they made some spectacular points. :bounce:
I wish people would stop trashing Elke as if she can't play tennis at all. I really think she could have a nice career in doubles! :)

The athmosphere was great, the crowd was really loud, cheering for the Clijsters sisters.
If they play like this, they could get further in this tournament!

The interview on court after the match was really sweet. Kim said she thinks that Elke is a great doubles player and she hopes she can get some confidence out of this win. (the interview in Dutch is here : http://www.vrtnieuws.net/nieuwsnet_master/default/sport/overzicht/040217dubbel/index.html?video_2)

Clijsters sisters are really good double. Elke will be good in doubles and them in singles. For example: Suarez, Bjorkman, Mirnyi was good in doubles and them in singles!

Elke and kim played great!

Elke is such a different player in doubles! suddenly her strokes are all low over the net and well placed, her voleys are lots better and her returns are better. It seems like if she has a goal where to place to ball, she is really good!

paul_masterton
Feb 18th, 2004, 11:39 AM
actually i do know a bit about elke's work ethic, and as for her practise sessions, well i would of attended if she actually had any when she was playing at Edinburgh. instead hse spend the whole time with her boyfriend.

I think she's a very good player though, and i think that people who trash her as if she's shit are wrong, because she's not. like i said she can do well enough to make a living out of tennis, but i don't think she will ever be a star.

i think her singles wil come when she starts to put a bit more effort in, when i saw her, she didn't seem overly fit. she wasn't overweight or anything, but got tired very easily. Maybe that's why she enjoys doubles? she's got all the shots but doesnt have to do as much running?

good luck in qf

How about the TV coverage in Belgium?

Will they show the dubs QF against Mandula/Loit? (Eurosport surely won't.)

I'd love to get a copy! :D
