Venus its now or never to break this maggie indoor curse. Three and Zero does not look good but I have faith! You can do it Vee! Focus and take Maggie out!

I hope Venus can do it! I want her and Justine to play, hopefully Venus is feeling better. It'll be the first meeting after awhile, and Venus has always had the edge!

luckily this is on hardcourts not carpets, so who knows, it should be a good match because its not like maggie slaughtered Venus in their last meeting i think it was a thrid set tiebreaker

When was their last meeting?

7~LV3

in moscow 02, Maggie beat ms Venus 2-6 6-1 7-6(3)

then Maggie defeated Mauresmo in straight sets and Davenport in a tiebreaker aswell

So that was a good run for maggie, who do you think has the edge this time?

I hope Venus can too!!!

If her shots are on, she should beat Maggie in straight sets(see AO '02). But Maggie plays consistently and aggressive against Venus, something that bothers her. But I hope it's a good match.:bounce:

Is this surface indoor Hardcourt, or Carpet?

Looking at their record, Venus would have a big edge on Indoor Hard and Maggie on Indoor Carpet.

Venus Williams (USA) vs. Magdalena Maleeva (BUL)

1995-10-30 Oakland Indoor Carpet QF Magdalena Maleeva (BUL) 6-2 6-3
1998-01-12 Sydney Hardcourt QF Venus Williams (USA) 6-2 6-2
2001-02-12 Nice Indoor Carpet SF Magdalena Maleeva (BUL) 7-6(8) 6-4
2002-01-14 Australian Open Hardcourt R16 Venus Williams (USA) 6-0 6-3
2002-09-30 Moscow Indoor Carpet R16 Magdalena Maleeva (BUL) 2-6 6-1 7-6(3)

Apparently a lot since maggie has been beating Venus on Carpet

What does it change?
A lot, considering carpet is arguably Maleeva's best surface and carpet being Venus' worst

The speed of the surface changes as well, like green and red clay, with green being a little faster

Go back and check the record than you'll know. If you STILL don't know, than I can't help you.

It is still indoors, though.

A lot of court speed has to do with the fact that it's indoors period.

Antwerp is played on Greenset, which is a cushioned surface. Venus has done fine the last two years with the surface so I don't think the surface will matter, Maleeva or no Maleeva.

Yeah keep worrying about a 'Maleeva' and instead a 'Raymond' will come along and send the "Queen" packing empty handed :tape:

Venus isn't perfect, contrary to what seems to be popular belief. Every top player has a day off and loses to someone they "shouldn't" lose to. Haven't you ever done bad on a test that you thought or should have been prepared for. She's already Venus Williams she ain't got nothing to prove to you or anybody else

it's actually greenset, not hardcourts, same as Paris
