Kim is playing horrid tennis, spraying balls all over.
Bad day for Kim, but can she recover against a weaker opponent?
Keep trying Kim!

6-3 Farina Elia

EDIT1: 5-2 second set Farina Elia

Kim turns it around to 7-5 second set, Silvia had 2 matchpoints at 5-4.

My prediction: Kim wins third set 6-2 or 6-3.

EDIT2: My prediction! Hehe, Kim wins third set 6-3

Kim Clijsters def. Silvia Farina Elia 3-6 7-5 6-3.

A surprise final could be good for some of you, but I think it'd be even better to have a Kim - Pierce final than anything else. Just a personal opinion, though! A lot of people also thought that the AO was a disgrace by the upsets and withdrawals. Imagine having a Silvia - Golovin final while we could have had a Kim - Serena final and a Kim/Serena - MoMo semi.

BTW - Congrats Kim! Again Dinara  It's like AO all over again. Are there actually any other fit players left  :p

Wow this is very surprising, but i guess in fact its very telling! Tennis is very much a mental game, i mean i've been following it for quite a few years now, i dont really play myself because my serve is pathetic and i've got to learn proper stance and form. Nonetheless i've come to the realization, that after analizing the game a bit, its got to do more with the mental aspect more than anything, Chris Evert used to always mention it during her commentating, here's yet another proof about it, Clijsters seems to always struggle against Elia so i guess anytime she goes into a match which involves Farina she realizes its spells trouble. Theres no other reason for why she should struggle so much with her? Has Farina got any weapons to seriously challenge Clijsters? Perhaps slice? Other than that Clijsters is too formidable of an athlete and is a top player with too much game for Elia. Of course Elia isnt any newbie to tennis, and its not like she cant play tennis, however this just confirms this theory, tennis is 60% mental and the rest is physical at the very least. Look no further than her losses to Henin and her meltdown against Serena last year, yes Serena stepped it up big time, but it was Serena's mental toughness that won that battle!

Have you even ever seen her play lately? If you have seen her yet this year, you will now that shes pumped up her muscles like crazy, and shes been much more offensive, coming to the net as soon as possible, and she has improved even since last year.

It's true that Farina always chokes when it matters. I dont like the Williamses and i always hate it if for instance at French Open Farina beats a good player in for instance 4th round or so and then because of that can play Williams, cuase she always loses extremely big then. Well and she just doesn't have any real weapons at all anyway

what both players said after the match!

"It's always tough playing Silvia because she doesn't give you any rhythm," said Clijsters. "Her slice shots force you to bend down all the time. I think it was a great match.

"I never thought I was out of it, even at 5-2 in the second set. If you think that way you should just walk to the net and shake hands," Clijsters added.

Farina Elia was naturally disappointed by the loss, but buoyed by the outstanding play she produced throughout the match.

"I think in the first two sets, this was the best tennis I've played in my career," said Farina Elia. "Even though I lost today, I feel I was the winner because of the way I played. It gives me a lot of confidence.

"I've learned a lot from the other times I've played against (Kim), and I used them in the match today. I tried to be more aggressive, which is the way I have to play if I want to stay at the top of the game."

Too often posters are quick to bash the loser rather than hail the victor which is unfortunate.

It sounds like it was a well played entertaining match. I'm glad to hear Silvia's game didn't deteriorate late in that second set. All due credit to Kim for lifting her game when she needed to and to Silvia for brining the world's #2 to the brink.
