2004 PAW Fed Cup - Yes or No? ... FEEDBACK NEEDED IN HERE =)

The system that operated in 2003.

There's no limit to the # of players in a team (country).
Points were awarded by the average points per country, eg: If Player A scores 43 points, Player B scores 32 points and Player C scores 53 points (all these players are the same country...), the country would end up with a total of 43+32+53 / 3 = 42.66... points... Similarly one person may be the only representative of his/her country, and may score 53 points, which will also be the team's score...
Rankings points were not awarded however it was an official result and good performing countries are taken into the "Country of the Year" Award consideration.
Number of picks: First Round - not trialed (16?), Quarters - 8, Semi - 5, Final - 3
You can also pick matches for the doubles, as the scoring points will be available
All players should post at least three supplementary PAW's (in case a player withdraws...), all possible supplementary PAW matches will have scoring points…
The tournaments works in a knock out format, only the top half of the total countries participating in the first round, are eligable for the quarters, and the top half of the quarters are into the semis etc...
Players had to commit to their country before each round (except final). note: this rule will be changed if Fed Cup occurs this year, any players can play Fed Cup as the country they represent in normal PAW, without commitment...
Players that did not participate in the first round let's say but their country is still in the semis were allowed to play since their country was still in.

However there were some complaints of this system:

it's not fair for Ina that have 6 players because the probability late and invalid picks is bigger than others country.
Just sugest we can picks as usually and who is the winner represent his country.

Due to Nir and Nitsanh are Israel therefore Marco represent Italia qualified for final
It seems not fair for country that only represent 1 player but you have to believe in your pick, and not our mistakes if INA have alot player at this fed cup.

Just in case if one player not have time to picks, is he/she still included to devided the total points of the teams?

If i was runing alone, Israel were in the final I think.
Indonesia have the top player in the ranking, and they are still out. :tape:

it's really hard to play at Fed Cup PAW... because we don't know for sure untill the last minute who's gonna play....
and also for the time difference between Indonesia and Moskwo , I couldn't stay at my computer........
too bad my double PAW were invalid.

and for sure... I am really disapointed about the rule.. next time we should fine the better one!! the rule is only good for less player .

I am a big supporter of this comp, as long as it is run in a way which is fair for ALL countries...

I think the chance to team up as a country with ur fellow PAW player is something that rarely happens and with the Olympics this year, the patriotic feelings of all should be high ;)

Yes I agree, do you have any suggestions though? ... we want to ensure the system welcomes as many countries/players to play whilst being fair on their performance...

I think a maximum of 4 players should be able to play for each country.
In WTA tournaments, the best players play, regardless of where they are from. But FED CUP, it's the top players of the country that may participate and I think it should be the same for PAW FED CUP.
Also, Canada should have a team ;)

It isn't fair that a country be penalized for many players out of the top 4 that only bring them down in PAW.
However, it is fun for everyone to play but I think PAW FED CUP should be exclusive just like in the WTA.

Best 4 players sounds nice, unfortunately that will rule out some countries like Albania, India, Mexico etc...

Having a MAXIMUM of 4 players per country won't rule out countries with only 1 or 2 players. They should still be able to play. It's only when a country has more than 4 players that you should have to exclude players.
Unless you would want to impose a minimum of players. For Example, a country must have at least 2 players. You don't have to impose this rule if you don't want to.
I think maybe you should because in the real FED CUP, ONE player cannot play all those matches and especially can't play doubles. So maybe we should impose a minimum of 2 and a maximum of 4.

IMHO, It should be championship race's ranking to consider in choosing 4 best players who made a commitment to FedCup for country. The minimum of 2 players could increase the number of multiple-account players in the game. The reason for multiple accounts is to qualify for FedCup. :(

I think that gives an unfair advantage to larger teams being able to get rid of one of there worst scores.

And as we saw in the results of last year's FED CUP, too many players in one country can distort the final standings (i.e. Indonesia).

the think the best way to do it is either the 4 best players, or the 8 best players of a given country

i think 5 is the safest bet though.... due to my new idea

but what about team captains ... i like that idea because then the highest ranked person in their country would be able to decide who has the most potential and ultiametely decide who the other 4 people are that join their team is, regardless of ranking

i also like the idea of team captains because it allows the PAW players to become involved in the picking process based on how well they think each player will do, based not only on ranking but potential... consistancy ... team chemistry, aomng other things

Yes, team captain does make sense.
Let me warn you though, there will be some controversy and bitterness toward the captain on the decisions he/she makes.
Especially if he/she chooses someone that is outside the top 4 in the country rankings.

some of them maybe know each other in 'real life'.... and the captain will choose him/her because they know each other.....

........ it's not fair for those players who in the top 4 in the country ranking but not be chosen by Captain .... because The CAPTAIN just don't know/like him/her.
