View Full Version : Venus in Tokyo

Today was my last day in Japan before jetting off to Europe. I used the time to pick up some gifts for my family. I ended up with a whole load of antique kimonos - they are great. I also ending up going to the museum of Tokyo and taking pictures of the largest temple in Tokyo.

It is strange to be on Tour without having any matches to play or any practice in the immediate future because of my injury. What a dilemma! Stuck in exotic cities with loads of free time!

To be honest, it really is not as glamorous as it seems. What I usually do is spend my time on the important things first, exercising to get stronger and rehab so that I can get back on the court and get back to taking care of business. This usually takes up half of the day.

Kimono Fitting

The rest of the day I may go shopping or see sites or just veg out. It's nice to get a break sometimes! At times I lose all sense of responsibility and I will stay up until early hours of the morning playing my guitar (I just got a new guitar, I will have to tell you all about it later!), reading, catching up on the latest movies or writing to all of you to give you the latest scoop! Normally, I could never stay up that late and still make it to practice.

The food in Japan has been great. I ended up trying rice balls, sweet rice cakes, and all kinds of Japanese treats at all of the shops leading up to the temple. To be honest that was an adventure in itself. Dinner was at a resturant at the hotel. The portions were so miniscule that a bird would have gone hungry. I guess it was payback for all the donuts and cookies that I ate here nonstop...

With Japanese Family

I have included some photos that I took recently in Tokyo. After I had to withdraw, I was able to do a little shopping and catch some of the sites.

All in all, I really had a great visit in Japan. I really would love to come back. The Toray Pan Pacific Tournament is a great event!

Anyway now I have all this time on my hands and I am on my way to Europe. Maybe I should see a few plays. Any suggestions???

I love that we're actually able to hear from Venus herself on how she's doing. I'm glad that she started her online journal/diary. Good luck Venus in Antwerp!

Venus  :hearts: She just sounds like such a curious person with a full life. So many athletes (like so many rock musicians!) go somewhere and spend all their free times sitting around their room. She really makes the most of it. Glad she's getting into authentic kimonos. They are really gorgeous-- I'd love to have one :p
