Justine and Lindsay should be on that list. It would be the grandslam we never had in a long time praying that everyone will be healthy, especially monica.

Justine is playing INDIAN Wells and using the 2 weeks during
the Miami event to practice up for the clay court season with
Family Circle and Amelia Island has her targets before to Europe.

She played Miami last year; but according to a translated article
featuring Carlos, the organizers at Indian Wells really wanted her
to support the tournament this year. I guess, since IW and Nasdaq
are both Tier 1's they chose IW this year. The $$ at the Miami
doesn't seem to be a priority to the NRR-DEN camp. Good to know
that their not playing just for $$; but looking for quality events
and rest/training time.

It's just odd. Miami is the considered the 5th major. The most important event after Slams/YEC. Odd that you would choose IW over Miami. Oh well...to each one's own.

Who's to say what's right or what's wrong? They've been doing
pretty good with her schedule and picking event and peaking
moments pretty good since last year. I guess...the RG defense
is something that is a priority for the NRR-DEN camp.

Does it matter? It's not like US based tennis fans like Zhoo-steen
anyway. Right? ;)

I would imagine the WTA puts a gets some pressure from Indian Wells to get top players, since due to some rude crowds, the Williams Sisters don't have any intentions of playing IW. just a thought....

I'll be in Miami for the tournament and was hoping to see Justine. But I'll have to deal with the disappointment. I'm really glad she's picking and choosing her tournaments and not playing every week, like a certain other Belgian.;)

Justine is planning on playing in the Olympics so she'll need to space the tournaments out a little bit. IW and Miami are just too close together and they are both two week tournaments so it would be best to skip one of them.

Miami has both men and women and I prefer the men so I'll surely enjoy myself. Last year was great because I got to see several of the new girls. (I saw Dinera beat up on Anna K. pretty badly.) Maybe this time I'll see Maria S. It should be fun.

Considering Justine has only played TWO events, and Venus was in one of them, no one is doing any avoiding.

JennyS

It makes a lot of sense for Justine to skip Miami. Since she wants to play both Amelia Island and Charleston, it would be too much to play four consecutive tournaments.

And Lindsay has always prefered IW to Miami anyway and maybe she wants to get two claycourt events in without playing Berlin and Rome.

tennisIlove09
Feb 12th, 2004, 09:23 PM
Justine and Lindsay should try to end the strangle hold that the Williams have on the tournament. They've owned it since 1998.

I don't think Williams sisters will paly both the same tournement.

I wonder that there aren't Lindsay and Justine.

No Mary??

Feb 12th, 2004, 11:36 PM
Hmmm... note to I Love Mary

Both V & S have entered the Miami tourney whenever they were healthy.

They have won 5 of the last six, as the above poster noted.

V and S have played in ONE final in Miami in 1999, which Venus won in three sets.

VS Fan
Feb 12th, 2004, 11:41 PM
Addendum:

The Mami tourney is sucessful at attracting top players partly because SO MANY of them LIVE in South Florida. Jen, Venus, Serena, and many others are within 100 miles of the tourney.

If you play indian Wells and Miami its like 4 weeks of a granslam. 12 matches straight if you win it plus doubles matches . Williams usually skips Indian Wells, so why not play Miami!!!!

As for players who supports Indian Wells, They have the right to skip Miami.

The only thing that makes Miami more prestigious is the fact that Top Men are also playing there at the same time, making it like a GS atmosphere.
