Let's go, Jen! Kick some major butt!

I never liked tennis until I watched Jen's comeback in 2001. I am now officially hooked. Ms. Capriati truly is an inspiration, especially to young women like me who often feel that dreams don't often come true. Thanks to Jen, I don't think that way anymore.

I hope Jen experiences a lot more of her dreams coming true in 2004. She deserves it! But I am, however, worried about this whole camel deal. I mean, what about the bad back? Must be better. LOL C'mon, Jen! Build with each tournament and then, knock em' all out, girl!!!

What's this thread doing sinking to the bottom?

Let's Get Excited!!

I am so totally psyched for Jen's return, I hope she does well on her first tourny but I really just hope she does as well as she can do for right now. I'm just glad to have her back, it's been so blah without her.

Be that fighter Jenny!

Capriati Makes Season Debut in Dubai

DUBAI, U.A.E. - Jennifer Capriati will make her 2004 debut this week at the Dubai Tennis Championships. The former World No.1 had missed the first month and a half of the season due to a back injury she suffered at the WTA Tour Championships last November in Los Angeles. Capriati, the No.3 seed this week, will receive a first round bye and will take on either Tina Pisnik or wildcard Eleni Daniilidou in her first match of the season. Capriati reached the semifinals last year in Dubai, losing to eventual winner Justine Henin-Hardenne.

Henin-Hardenne is back to defend her title at the event and also returns to action after having to withdraw from the Proximus Diamond Games in her native Belgium last week due to an upper respiratory illness. The top seed has not played a match since defeating Kim Clijsters in the final of the Australian Open. After a first round bye, she'll face either Tamarine Tanasugarn or Selima Sfar in the first round.

No.2 seed Venus Williams also had to withdraw last week in Antwerp, still hampered by a right lower leg strain she suffered at the Toray Pan Pacific Open in Tokyo three weeks ago. Williams will this week attempt to play for the first time since the injury and will face Alicia Molik or Maria Vento-Kabchi in the second round.

Anastasia Myskina will also be returning to the Tour for the first time since Melbourne as the No.4 seed. Myskina has reached the quarterfinals in both events she's entered in 2004, falling to Amelie Mauresmo in Sydney and to Clijsters at the Australian Open. She'll take on either Magui Serna or a qualifier/lucky loser in the second round.

Fresh off her first career title last week in Hyderabad, Nicole Pratt comes into Dubai as a wildcard and riding a five-match winning streak. The 30-year-old Aussie defeated Maria Kirilenko for record her first singles title in her 15th season on the WTA Tour. Pratt will face a qualifier/lucky loser in the first round.

This is the fourth year of the $585,000 Tier II event in Dubai. Along with last year's winner Henin-Hardenne, previous tournament champions include Serena Williams in 2000, Martina Hingis in 2001 and Amelie Mauresmo in 2002.

Jennifer Capriati arrived for her first tournament of 2004 and admitted that she had been scared that she might never play again because of recent injuries.

I know that this in GM forum but I just wanted to make it apparent here. This is such an imporant tournament for her, not because of how well she is or isn't going to do but because she's coming back. And i know we are all so happy for that.

Such a relief. I know we were all so worried! I'm glad that she's okay. She's a fighter, she'll play again and she'll win again! I just know it.. although maybe not this time. Jenny, we're so proud of you!
