I was visiting the Gaz de France site and I found out about this very young player.

You can learn from her here:http://www.opengazdefrance.com/teamgazdefrance/pavlovic/index.shtml

She looks interesting and promising to say the least.

1er tour:Irena Pavlovic FRA - Estefania Balda ECU 6-2 6-0
2e tour: Ana Ivanovic-Irena Pavlovic: 6-1 6-4

I'm really interested by Irena's schedule and I can't find any news from her.....

I'm really surprise about the way she's managing the beginning of her career.
She seems to be only focused on junior tournement whereas she could start to play challengers tournements to evaluate her level.

The last tournement she's been playing was the A.O Junior where she's been loosing in the 2nd round and not in the first as I read before...
Since then ...no news...
I don't think it's a question of money because she's sponsored by Gaz de France Company...and also by the french federation...so really if someone has heard about something....let me know....

Yes Irena wasn't able to control her game vs 3rs seed/n°110. After a decent 1rst set scoring 4 games...she was bagelled in the 2nd!!
Irena couln't revenge her last year 2nd rd loss to Sandra  and even won less games...last year she lost 6/2 6/4.

The week after, she got a WC at Marseille $50K challenger...and once again after a good 1rst set (lost 7/5), she couldn't handle the same rythm in the 2nd lost 6/2 vs n°137 compatriot Johansson.

At Valladoid $25K, she succeeded to qualify and ran to the 2nd round beating qualifer n°531 Nagaraj before falling to Top seed/n°145 Parra Santonja (another 2 handed both sides player)...once again after resisting in the 1rst set losing in the tie break, she gave up in the second losing 6/1.

Last week, she travelled to England to play at Felixtowe $25K where she qualified for the main draw before falling to WC n°613 Stoop

This week, she's competing at Frinton by sea $10K and she is qualified for her 3rd final in an ITF event after Hull and Tipton (both in Great Britain too). She'll try to get a revenge vs...n°581 Stoop.

Next week, she is commited at $25K Les Contamines as WC in the Main Draw

Pavlovic ouvre son palmarès

http://i.eurosport.fr/2006/07/25/297653-1296201-458-238.jpg

After winning her 1rst ITF title on grass at Frinton, Irena won her 2nd title at Wrexham $10K on hard court.
As 3rd seed, she easely ran to the Final wothout dropping a set, before fighting hard against Top seed/n°348 O'Donoghue winning in 3 sets 6/3 6/7 7/6! That 2nd title made her reach her ever best ranking at n°410.

She came back to competition in Asia at Ibaraki $25Kbut strongly lost to Top seed/n°181 Fuda.

This week, she's back to England where she seems to play her best tennis: she's qualified for the Semi Final at Caversham $25K challenger after qualifying :bounce: :bounce: .
This is the 1rst time she reaches that stage in a $25K competition!
She beat 6th seed/n°204 Cetkovska and performed her ever best victory over Top seed/n°138 Keothavong.
Tomorrow she'll try to get a revenge vs compatriot 4th seed/n°181 Pichet who beat her in final at Tipton $10K in january.
Hope she's not too tired for her 6th consecutive match.

If Irena wins that tournement, she'll break a nw ranking record..around n°320

Nest week, she's competing at Buchen $10K..I think, she's making the right choice to play $10 to get confidence and also to get easy ranking points.. With the 2007 rules, it's worth to play $10K than $25K or 50K qualifications. I think it's unfair but it's like that, qualies don't pay points anymore...so it's hard for the girls between 200 and 350 to rise:fiery:

Hope she will have a WC for Roland Garros !

As I said, I think she'll get a WC for the qualies....because ther're a lot of promising girls or confirmed Top 200 french players higher ranked than her who will have the prior for a MD WC such as:
Youlia Fedossova (n°114) born in 88
Alize Cornet (n°118) born in 90
Mathilde Johansson (n°135) born in 85
Stephanie Foretz (n°136) born in 81 and former n°62
Pauline Parmentier (n°145) born in 86
Stephanie Cohen Aloro (n°156) born in 83 former n°63
Virginie Pichet (n°160) born in 83
Olivia Sanchez (n°178) born in 82

However, I think she could get a WC for the qualies...and I think it should be better for Irena..if her draw is not too bad she could win 1 or 2 matches...which could interesting for her ranking.

However, Irena is in the TOP 300 now...n°293 new ranking best position...
I'm pretty sure, she'll get a WC for the qualies at Rolang Garros...

She defeated Hisamatsu 62 62 in Lexington (50.000$) :). This is finally a new top 200 victory for her and in a great way. She will face Baltacha now. Good luck Irena, you will need it.

As she is playing in the USA, I am quite sure she will secure the QWC in the US Open. It may not be linked as she often plays there ... but I have a feeling ^^. Violette has been playing poorly since RG which is not Irena's case. If she makes a good run in Lexington, she will appear as the main contender to get the precious wild card.

After an early by logical loss at Nantes vs the Top seed Arvidsson, Irena decided to play at Jersey $25K.
She fall in the qualies 2nd round after retiring in the 2nd set vs modest n°746 Brown.

The week after, she competed at Jersey $25K losing once more to Arvidsson!

With these poor results, Irena chose to fly to Australia sooner than expected and enter this week Port Pirie $25K. Once again, she will have to get through the qualies. She wasn't in the commited list..so she has to play the qualies.

If she doesn't withdraw..Irena decided to start the season in the Unites states competing in 2 challengers beginning o nthe 7th of january
-$25K Tampa Bay directly entrance in the MD
-$25 K Surprise where she's 8th seed in the QD. Maybe a little bit far to get into the MD within 2 weeks.

Irena finished the year at n°260 with a career high at n°255 (October 8, 2007)

I hope Irena will level up her consistency this year. She proved in 2007 that she was able to bit Top 200 players, she won her 1rst $25K challenger In Australia...but sh also had some unacceptable loss considering her talent.

Here are her Top 200 victories this year:

Melanie South (181): 6/3 6/2
Marina Erakovic (163): 6/2 6/4
Shiho Hisamatsu (190): 6/4 6/1
Katie O'Brien (141): 6/3 6/3
Monica Niculescu (179): 6/3 6/3
Katie O'Brien (134)-2nd time this year-: 6/1 6/3
Monique Adamczak (167): 6/2 5/7 6/4

She also performed strong resistance vs current TOP 100 players:
Yung Jan Chan (69): losing 1/6 6/3 6/4
Kateryna Bondarenko (39): losing 3/6 6/3 6/4
Casey Dellacqua (106): losing 6/2 1/6 6/2

But also desapointing loss:
Susanna Lingman (671):6/4 5/7 6/1
Neuza Silva (442):7/6 6/4 (even if Neuza had a great year finishing n°206)
Chanelle Scheepers (370): 4/6 6/0 6/4 (same as Neuza, great year for Chanelle who came back to the Top 200 at n°192)
Anasatasia Sevastova (391): 6/4 6/2 (n°254 at the 2007 YED ranking)
Stanislava Hrosenska (302): 2/6 6/4 6/1 (n°244 at the 2007 YED ranking)

Stefania Boffa (399):6/4 3/6 6/2

After her desapointing loss to Rampre (who was pretty on fire at St Leo reaching the SF), Irena is back to the competition at La Quita.

Despite a pretty strong 1rst rd toss, IRENA won

Irena (n°249) beat Lauren Albenese (n°254): 6/1 4/6 7/6!

What a match and good tight win, hope it will bounce her confidence.

Next match vs 8th seed/n°208 Seiko OKAMOTO.

Hope Irena's going to upset her..which is absolutely possible. Irena proved in the past taht she could beat Top 200 player.

If she's making to the QF, she could face come backer Sesil Karatancheva!

Expected loss for Irena in QF at La Quinta.

Irena had to face come backer prodigy Sesil Karatencheva.

She lost 6/4 6/2...that means she was pretty close in the 1rst set!

Don't forget that Sesil was n°35 at only 16 y.o in november 2005.

She's back to the competition this year after being banned for 2 years for positive drugs control.

Since her comeback, she's undefeated!

Irena will get 7 points from this QF and will break a career high ranking at n°235!

She will be back in Europe next week, commited to play at Sutton $25K in Great Britain.

She always play strong tennis in GB...winning her 1rst ITF events!
She's in the MD list at n°17.

Hope Irena will be able to break the Top 200 within RG 08 in order to aim a Main Draw WC!

Pretty nice summary! Yeah this is the kind of losses Irena shouldn't be ashamred of, she gave Sesil a nice resistance so that's already convincing :yeah:. As you said, GB has always been a place of success for Irena, now she has even some time to adapt herself to the time change. Hope she can be in form to keep this good results coming :).
Anyway I think Irena will have this WC in RG since Parmentier, Cornet & Pin will be for sure in MD. ;)

1rst rd:
Irena PAVLOVIC (247) beat (Q)Carla MRAZ (523): 7/6 6/7 7/6

What a victory from Irena!!

I was expected an easier victory...however a win is a win!
Maybe she's a little bit tired with the jetlag coming back from the States!

Next opponent will be either Zuzana KUCOVA (244) or 6th seed/n°207 Sandra Zahlavova.

Hope she'll boost her confidence with that tight victory and level up her game!

Thanks Iceland...and good analysis too concerning the WC granted...

Irena PAVLOVIC (247) beat 6th seed/n°207 Sandra Zahlavova
Easy 2nd rd victory for Irena who overpowered the 6th seed Zahlavova!

She took all the benefits from her 1rst dangerous rd vs Mraz...

Next match, she'll face Hlavackova (n°250) who ousted local favourite 4th seed/n°186 Cavaday...

Tough match in perspective...

However if she can make it, she has a pretty open draw...with surprising WC Elliot and 7th seed Hradecka in her of the draw...

Andrea Hlavackova (250) beat Irena PAVLOVIC (247): 1/6 7/6 6/1

... What an occasion missed for Irena...she was so close tuo finish the match in 2 sets!
Losing the 2nd set in a tie break when you've won so easely the 1rst...most of the time it signes the match ending. Irena may have been unable to control her nerves!!

That's really bad, because the draw was completely open with (Q)Elliot in SF and (Q)Larsson in final

With a victory in Sutton, she would have added 25 points instead of 7 points! which would have mean a n°205/210 ranking...instead of n°225

However, she'll have to forget that missing oppportunity and regroup for next week Stockholm $25K where she may have to play the qualies...she's 4 places behind to get into the MD...today

fredbdx
Feb 12th, 2008, 06:29 AM
No Irena at Stockholm, she withdrew...

However, the good news is that she's reaching her career high single ranking: n°226!

Hope she'll be able to break the Top 200 soon..she is 25 points from it!

But Irena's going to lose 11 points from last year without defending them (QF at Stockholm $25K and Runner Up at Portimao $10K)

Iceland
Feb 23rd, 2008, 11:42 AM
Yes, but apart of those points, Irena hasn't much to defend, she was injured during the whole March. Then, she has little points to defend here and there ... What is important is that she is healthy and playing good tennis!

Irena entered Dubaï qualies as an alternate & used well her opportunity to get 5 points! She defeated Foretz (137th) 46 75 64 coming back from 46 35 :bounce:.

She should face theoretically Anabel Medina Garrigues ; it would be a tough opponent for her. She is known to disrupt ballbashers's game, Irena will have to be patient. Anyway, it's all bonus for her :).

Irena is in Asia to play a big tourney with lots of 50k, sadly it began on a poor note with a 62 64 loss in Incheon (25.000$) to a Chinese player ranked outside of top 300. Well, Irena is still playing with up and down form weeks after weeks. Sometimes, she's playing encouraging weeks with easuy victories on Top 200 players...and some weeks, she seems to struggle with her game or confidence!
I was hoping a good run at Incheon with a pretty easy draw as 6th seed...she could have make it to the semi and get 12 easy points to come closer from the Top 200...
Hope she'll regroup next week!

Well, with a bit of luck Irena has a much easier draw this week at Gifu.
She was suppose to play 3rd seed/n°154 talented KULIKOVA...but she withdrew...
So Irena 1rst opponent was n°544 LL Yuka KURODA.
Irena won 6/3 6/4 which is not that convincing but a victiry is a victiry and Irena needs it to boost her confidence.
Normally Irena should qualified for hte next rd too..before facing 7th seed/n°210 Kumiko IIJIMA if the logic of the ranking is respected...IIJIMA is also a really winnable match for Irena...so a SF would be great...with 16 WTA points added...she could be ranked around 215.

Another disapointing result for Irena,
despite an interesting draw, she lost in the 2nd rd at Gifu against modest n°383 Tomoko Yonemura 6/4 3/6 6/4.

I really hope Irena will be able to find back her tennis for Roland Garros.

Lack of luck for Irena in Roland-Garros. She faces an in-form player in the person of Monica Niculescu, the second seed. I don't want to look further, the only consolation I have is that it will make a great match to watch tomorrow. I hope it doesn't begin too late otherwise I wouldn't be able to follow it .
Clay isn't her best surface but she at least knows how to defeat Monica as last year she was the only one to stop her winning streak in Australian 25k.

Allez!!

Well that's the major issue with Irena.
She should be a Top 200 for a while now...She seems to play with up and downs...and she's not abble to conclude tight matches such as this one...

I don't know her schedule now....I don't think that she's in the Q at Wimbledon?

She lost in straight sets against Tara Moore

I agree that Irena should be in top 200 for a while and her results are really strange, struggling in 25k's but playing good matches like in Dubai qualifying where she defeated Foretz and pushed Medina Garrigues all the way.

What happened to her? Looking at a few pictures I'm not sure she's in great shape, she used to be really skinny and has put on a lot on weight. Not to say she's fat, she's not, but that's a big change, even her face doesn't seem the same...

After another disapointing loss vs n°353 Bou Nogueiro at 25K Vigo last week...Irena came out of her shell at Coimbra $25K.

She's qualified for the SF where she'll face in form n°267 Thyssen...another 2 handed both sides player.

I hope Irena will prove that she's back to her expecting level.

Irena had a pretty easy run for the SF beating
(Q) Diana Brunel (n°686):6/3 6/2
Heidi El Tabakh (n°386):WO
Elisa Kostova (n°534):6/4 6/4

Irena was out of the Top 250 (n°260), she'll be back in a fortnight...
with already 11 points...she's virtually n°240...a victory would make her rise around 230

Bravo Irena :yeah:. This will give her some precious points! Her schedule has been terrible in the last months, she didn't play anywhere since she hates clay, then she gave up on the US tournaments to focus on poor 25k that didn't provide as many results as she expected. She's still stuck in top 200-250.

That's good news that she didn't miss this opportunity to advance, first time that she makes qualies with her own rank I think. Well done and beat Stéphanie again please!

For sure good news frmo Irena, with this victory and 15 added points...she should be back in the TOP 230...

Now she's to face erratic Stephanie Foretz who is much more experienced than Irena...and had pretty good statistics in slam...
Stephanie can hit really hard from both sides with her powerfull flat shots...in the other hand, if she's in a bad day, she can multiply the UE with no plan B....a little bit like Irena in fact...

So let's wait for the result...

With a little bit of effort, and she could reach, what we're all expecting for so long, the TOP 200 (need 25 extra points)...so maybe not after the USO...but soon

fredbdx

Expected loss for Irena against her compatriot Foretz...
However Irena fought in that match losing in 3 sets 3/6 6/3 3/6.

Considering her stats, she can be a little bit concerned about her break point conversion...4 out of 14 points...Foretz did a little bit better 5 out of 12.

Hope she'll be able to take it as a good experience for the future.

Next up for Irena is Martina Franca $25K in Italy where she will be one of the Top seed (3rd).
A good tournement there would help her to get closer from the Top 200

We are always between hope and disappointment with Irena. I cannot believe that she hasn't broken top 200 yet, she had so many opportunities... I don't think that playing those 25k was the right tactics, she should have played higher tournaments when she was in form.

Irena didn't create a surprise in SF...she lost in SF to 2nd seed/n°121 Patricia Mayr.

There's still no analyse from her concerning that match.
Maybe, she lack a little bit of energy after her strong fight in QF.
She succeed in performing well in the 1rst set , losing only 6/4, but she completely gave up in the 2nd as she was bagelled!

Patricia made nice comments about Irena's game in her post match press interview, saying that Irena had a lot of talent and that she could have a nice progression.

She's back to competition and decides to play the Canaria's islands circuit.
I was pessimistic for her 1rst tournement out there at Tenerife $25K considering she had to face in form 5th seed/n°189 Stoop.

Well she lost in straight sets to Elena 46 36. No shame! Finally the new season has started for Irena, she generally plays a very limited number of tournament per year considered how low she is ranked. It was thus an absolute must to go far, I mean, she should already be in top 200 for ages. She is 20 now so we cant talk much about her being a prospect but still she is way too good to be hoovering in top 250-300... She reported on her blog that she wants to be an aggressive player following her big strokes to the net... I am quite impatient to see that :D.

She should be into La Palma's MD as well. Hope she carries on now!

Yes, really expecting a good journey in Canaria Island for Irena!
She has a pretty decent draw with this 1rst rd vs modest n°1082 Mohorcic...next rd will be tougher with Soler Espinoza (seeded 7) or Dulgheru.
You're right, dspite her SF last week, she won't rise that much in the ranking because last year she was QF at Las Palmas !

Hey (call me Antoine please) ;)

Yes, you make a point, she was on the verge of getting out of top 300... Phew, this good run was really needed. I've noticed something strange with Irena. She never plays anywhere on clay apart of Roland-Garros where she has these QWC. Is it because she hates it (which seems the most plausible explanation) or because she avoids it to not be injured like Tsonga for example? Anyway the bad thing is that April/May is a terrible time for her as she plays sporadically. Hard to be consistent with such a gap in the schedule... so I hope she tries a bit harder now! There will still be a couple of hard courts events but far away, maybe she will try the Asian tour again, would be great :D!

Well, let's wish Irena to go very far here so that we don't get worried about her rank!

Ok Antoine! I'm Fred

Well, I think that clay doesn't suit to her game...all the more she's trying to developp an offensive game..stronger serve, net skills..That's the reason she may not play that much on clay.

For sure, the clay season start, so not the best perspective...however, she planed to play at Torhout $100K in Belgium...no news about a potential Asian journey.

Irena defeated Soler-Espinosa on 63 63!!! Another very convincing win! Should I mention that she is in the double semies as well? Well I don't mind her taking long breaks if she comes back with such kind of victories afterwards.

She will play Jing-Jing Lu in the next round who beated Buzarnescu. Not an easy round I would say despite her inconsistency -the girl lost to Borovnica not so long ago- Chinese girls have this ability to taking the ball early, it would trouble Irena as movement isn't really her best asset.

Too bad! It's really unfortunate!

The Q draw in Torhout:
(3)Stephanie Gehrlein (GER) v Pauline Wong (NED)
Darija Jurak (CRO) v Anna Smith (GBR)
(wc)Sofie Oyen (BEL) v Emma Laine (FIN)
(8)Irena Pavlovic (FRA) v Vanessa Henke (GER)

Not easy nor bad. She should be able to play all these opponents, the question is more about her ability to stay consistent! It would really be great to score points in this big tournament.

Definitely bad luck, she would really deserve to have an easier draw to reward her good form. I'm quite gutted at the fact that she's still stuck way below the 250th rank! On the other hand she will learn a lot from playing those big girls. Anne has won a 100k already indoors so she's really dangerous, certainly more than when Irena beated her few years ago.

She beat Anne...don't know the score yet..but she made it...ok Anne wasn't feeling good (a cold...and breathing problems)...but a victory is a victory..all the more in a $100K Challenger which means 20 extra points + 6 for qualifying...and a potential come back in the Top 250!
Hope she'll keep playing like that and she could at least break the Top 200!

Yeah that's good news no matter what happened. Shame she had to get through on a retirement but she really needed these points badly!
Now she will play a girl of the same generation as her, Yulia Fedossova. Both are trying to find a way to sneak into top 200, it's really a golden opportunity... There is still a possibility for them to enter Q draw of RG without the help of a wild card, I guess it would mean a lot for these brave girls.
Obviously I'm rooting for Irena who has much more talent in my opinion. The only issue will be to retrieve Yulia's big first serve.

Allez

Yes a lot of common points between Irena and Youlia.
Both born in 1988...Youlia is 2 months older than Irena.
Both are Eastern girl native...Russia for Youlia and Serbia for Irena.
Only a 34 spots gap in the WTA ranking: n°237 for Youlia and n°271 for Irena...which is not significative at tha level.

However, there's a real difference in their experience...as Youlia is a former n°107 (in august 2007) whereas Irena had her best at n°220.
She was 2 times QF at Tokyo Tier IV (in 2004 and 2006) beating in 2004 girls such as n°46 Shaughnessy and n°74 Morigami.
Victorie over n°89 Brandi (2005),
Victories over n°28 Medina Garrigues (USO 2006 reaching the 2nd rd as a qualifer), n°63 Ruano Pascual and n°83 Morigami (Tokyo 2006), n°98 Kanepi (St Raphael 2006 ITF), n°83 Fedak (Poitiers 2006 ITF).
Victories over n°50 Castano (1rst rd at AO 2007 as WC), n°93 Benesova (Antwerp qualies 2007), n°40 Kanepi (1rst rd as qualifer at Stokholm 2007 Tier IV)
No Top 100 victories in 2008.
No Top 100 victories so far in 2009.
Since the beginning of the year Youlia finished Runner up at Grenoble $10K and QF at Belfort $25K.

In comparaison, Irena has a less prestigious CV.
No main draw appearance on the WTA Tour.
Won 3 ITF Titles (2*$10K and 1*$25K).
However, Irena's got really her chance as she started the year better than Youlia and has been playing pretty well since a month with 1*SF at Tenerife $25K (beating Ani her 1rst Top 100 player) and the week after 1*QF at La Palma $25K.
I think she's really confident right now, and I hope she'll beat Youlia...which would mean 20 extra points and a potential Top 230 return.

After 4 weeks of good results on the ITF circuit, that makes Irena who was nearly out of the Top 300 coming back at n°253, Irena was unexpecting losing in the 1rst rd at Tessenderlo $25K.

That result needs explanation:
Irena played a really beatable opponent, considering her recent form, competing against 25 y.o n°292 Nociarova.

1rst reason:
That was her 1rst match on clay. Last week, she was still competing on hard court

2nd reason:
Clay is definitively not her surface. Irena's game matches more on rapid surfaces where she can hit hard from bothsides and win the points pretty quickly. Clay requires to be more patient and also a better footwork...for sure, even if the double handed bothside groundstrokes could be interesting in term of angles and power...the players need to move quicker to have their bodies closer from the ball.
Hope she'll find the right training to adapt her game for the clay season.

BTW, does anyone know her upcoming schedule? She withdrew from Cannes $75K a couple of days ago...and I didn't find any other commitments in april.

It seems that www.irenapavlovic.net is over...sad news...
All the more, Irena's having her best season so far...
Best single ranking at n°218 last month
Best double ranking at n°141 last month

Best runs in single:
2 times Runner Up at Gimhae $25K and Sarajevo $25K
2 times Semi Finalist at Minsk $25K and Caserta $25K

Best runs in double:
6 titles: Belfort 25k (/Bovina), Minsk 25K (/Bovina), Moscow 25K (/Bratchikova), Caserta 25K (/Dzehalevich) and Sarajevo $25K (Buryachok)

Hope she'll break the Top 200 soon in single!
I really believe that her good results in double help her to improve her single results

Another step for Irena next week as she'll break the Top 200!

She reached another SF on the ITF circuit at Aschaffenburg $25K.

This week she played Istanbul $220K WTA qualies. She won her 1rst rd. she could have make it to the final round as she lost only 7/6 in the 3rd set vs talented Krystina Pliskova.
In double, she played with Kalashnikova. I don't think they played together before...however, they weren't lucky to toss Rybarikova/Pavlyuchenkova. They lose 6/3 6/0....that's part of the experience;

Next week, she'll be at Copenhagen...She has already play her 1rst rd in qualies beating Lykina in straight set...next on, is ..n°2 Groenefeld...good luck nothing to lose.

I don't know yet her double partner...I notice that Bovina was there, playing the qualies...maybe they will play together as the pair has won several challengers together during the spring.

thx for the pics Rik!

Here some news from her latest results..
Starting with the good points, Irena broke the Top 200 for the 1rst time this summer with a career high at n°194 in single. she kept rising in double too with a ranking at n°129 at her best!

Behind those good stats...here results are so so...
with only 1 SF at Aschaffenburg $25K falling to young compatriot n°358 Garcia.
she also started to compete on the WTA Tour with two 2nd rd in qualies at istanbul and copenhagen...with a regret at Istanbul where she lost 7/6 in the 3rd against talended n°249 Kristyna Pliskova.

In double she won her 1rst match on the WTA tour with Laine at Istanbul beating Hercog/Martic. Tey lost to 3rd seed Senoglu/Voracoa.

Her ranking allows her to play the US Open qualies...with no success falling to n°147 Tatishvili in 2 straight sets.

Now it's time for Irena to step up her game if she wants to reach another step aroundn°150.
Next week, she's back on the ITF in Netherlands...
Wish her good luck!

She played $25K Alphen A/D Rijn this week and will break new ranking high with her results.
Both in single and double, she finished Runner-up!
Starting with the single, as 2nd seed, she made it to the final without dropping a set...In final, she faced 5th seed/n°227 Schruff but former n°55. She didn't make a real opposition losing 6/0 6/3. The round before, Schruff was even more severe ousting Top seed/n°126 Rus 6/1 6/1. This final means 34 extra points for Irena's ranking..
In double, she was playing with Lykina. As Top seed, they were surprised in Final falling to local favourite team Harmsen/Schoofs.

Next week, Irena should move to italy to play another ITF: $50 K Mestre. Wish her good luck!

fredbdx
Sep 25th, 2010, 05:41 AM
Irena withdrew from Mestre $50K last week after her goos result in Netherlands and came back to competition at Shrewbury $75K challenger.
Single result is a little bit desapointed as she fell to young and talented 18 y.o Bertens (n°284). 1rst set was no discussion as Irena lost 2/6, she gave bood fight in the 2nd set but lost it 5/7.
However, Irena can be happy to come back to France (playing Limoges next week) as she won the double title with Vitalia Diatchenko.
As top seed, they gave strong fight to win the SF and Final in 3 sets with super tie break each time!
The common point between Irena and Vitalia is that they both play double handed bothsides shots!
This title means 110 extra points for her ranking...and Irena should be around n°115 next week.
As fas as her single ranking is concerned, she should be around n°190.

Hope this will boost her confidence for Limoges where she should be one of the Top seed (3 ,I think).

She plays a 75.000 in Great Britain, If I'm not wrong.

Yes you're right...she was on both list Limoges and Barnstaple...but decided to play in England.
In the main draw 1rst rd, she faced n°169 and former n°44 german Groenefeld and I think she really missed her chance as she lost 2/6 7/6 6/3.
In double, she had a better run as she reached the SF pairing Vitalia Diatchenko (2nd seed). It was the 2nd time the both girls were playing together (they won Shrewbury $75k a week ago). Once again, Irena was not in a "winning mood" in double. They lost 6/4 4/6 (11/9) to 3rd seed Klemenschits/Malek).

this week Irena is back in france to play tours $50K.
She'll meet lucky loser n°294 in the main draw 1rst rd.
In double, she'll be, once again, one of the favourite as 2nd seed competing with Malek.

well, now that the year is eading, this is time for Irena's assessment!

2010 is for sure a positive year for Irena:
In term of ranking. she broke the top 200 (best ranking: n°187 in october) and finished the year at n°200 (+89 vs 2009:
Highlights for single:
3 times Runner up (Gimhae $25K, Sarajevo $25K, Alphen A/D Rijn $25K)
3 times SF (Minsk $25K, Caserta $25K, Aschaffenburg $25K)
Best single victories:
Top 200: Dzehalevich (n°153), Kalashnikova (n°163), Cavaday (n°174)

The good point is that she had a full season without injuries. She'll have to break another step next year if she want to keep on achieving her dream as a tennis pro.
The good point is that she started to play seriously in double. A lot of tennis pro player took this option to become a better single player.
Her result in double are really impressive with 9 titles this year:
Shrewsbury $75K
Belfort $25K, Minsk $25K, Moscow $25K, Caserta $25K, Sarajevo $25K, Stuttgart $25K, Joue Les Tours $25K, Bratislava $25K

With a record as 42 wins for 13 loss, Irena reached the Top 120 with a career high at n°116.

Wish her good luck for next year!

The beginning of the season was not convincing for sure...but she regrouped and finished really well.

Ranking evolution:
Irena is 210 at the WTA ranking (she was 200 at the end of 2010.
In double she finished 145 vs 120 in 2010.

Results in single:
4 times Semi finalist: Sutton ($25K, Montpellier $25K, Beijing $75K and Poitiers $100K

Top 50 victory:
Petra Cetkovska (n°30)
Top 100 victory:
Stephanie Foretz Gacon (n°97)
Top 200 victories:
Erika Sema (n°145), Petra Rampre (n°191)

Irena played 2 convincing tournamnts: Beijing and Poitiers, both $75K level.

At beijing, she made it to the SF with a straight victory over 3rd seed/n°145 Sema before falling to come backer n°343 Hsieh and eventual winner.

Her results in Poitiers were even more impressive as she beat n°97 compatriot Foretz Gacon and outclassed Top seed/n°30 Cetkovska en route before losing to 3rd seed/n°58 Baltacha.

Double Results:

1 Title: Pozaoblanco $25K
4 finals: Campobasso $25K, Caceres $25K, Istanbul $50K, Joue les Tours $50K
3 Semi Finals: Clearwater $25K, Civitavecchia $25K, Albuquerque $75K,

It seems tha Irena decided to play stronger events considering the end of her season. Hope she'll capitalize on her good results in Poitiers to keep rising next year!;)

Well you know, breaking the top 100 or the Top 50 is a strong challenge...
Of course, there'll always be prodigies who can break this step as teens...but there're also some players who took more time to succeed and progress steadily...so we never know...
The other fact is that being a Top 100 needs a lot of investment...and not only personnal but also financial (trainer, physio....)

The only think I know is that Irena is very motivated and happy to compete as a pro player and I hope she'll keep fighting as hard as she can to progress!
