View Full Version : Why this part of the spring tour sucks and US players avoid going to Europe

It´s worth mentioning that this part of the tour is "divided" into the US girls resting and the European girls playing in front of their home crowds. Just when the tour goes to Indian Wells, the elite will be united again. Due to the fact that Amelie and the Williams are injured, it´s obvious Justine and Kim split the titles in Paris and Antwerpen and the Arab events will lack star power this year as the Williams and Jenn won´t go. Headlining an event with Henin and Myskina alone won´t be a highlight for them

Furthermore, by pushing the whole season one week back, the WTA will have a strange ranking development over the next few weeks. They add Tokyo the week where they delete Paris, they´ll play Paris the week they delete Antwerpen and so on. This will go on till the events of Charleston and Amelia Island. By deleting Miami and Sarasota f.e. in one week, Alicia Molik will have to defend 250 points within one week and that will endanger her chances of climbing the rankings. Same as Shaughnessy and Coetzer who will go down the rankings over the next weeks by having no chance to defend their points in the weeks they got them last year. Same as the home event of Scottsdale for US girls was replaced by upgrading Arabia so that some US girls won´t have the chance to play another tierII in front of their home crowd and rest another week.

moving miami back one week is going to hurt the tournament because it now starts the week after spring break

they didnt move the tourns back a week
its just how the Calendar Alignment fitted it
or else the years would keep starting 1 day earlier and then you'll have the year starting in June
