Lindsay's first serve isn't working well... her 1st serve is only at 47% but i think her groundstrokes are consistent, maybe that's why... her winners so far are 9, with just 3 UEs

Lindsay turned her game on. All us fans were saying "When she wants her game on, she'll turn it on." She did, and now she's rolling.....

i think vera's serves are causing lindsay problems..... if vera serves hard, it's a bit difficult for lindsay to handle...that's so far what i can tell from looking at the live scores

Lindsay is up 4-2 now and ready to break again and take this match home! I really thought Zvonareva was going to challenge her based on past results and the talk about her being a dangerous floater. Nonetheless i guess its always too much hype, so far all the extremely hyped players have seen themselves demoted in their pursuit of responding to the pressures behind all the hype, look what happened to Bedanova? Currently Hantuchova and to a certain extent Dokic, i think the same will happen to Sharapova and the russians alike. Only Henin and Clijsters have lived up to all the hype and not completely because they have dismal records vs the Williams sisters.

Lindsay´s looking good...but Vera....man, never seen anyone fail to adjust like this. Lindsay ALWAYS served down the middle to her backhand and Vera never adjusted to that.

Good match by Linds....hmm, someone may well have a match on their hands in the qrtrs.

Jan 25th, 2004, 03:07 AM
Lindsay played very solidly, well within herself - pretty much after Vera failed to break back in the first set the match was over. Vera completely self-destructed - her petulance really does border on the psychotic at times  Snatching the balls from the ballboys, burying her face in her towel, smashing balls in frustration, rolling her eyes after every point... you name it, she did it.

GoDominique
Jan 25th, 2004, 03:08 AM
Lindsay played very well, especially in the first set, while Vera couldn't get anything in and was negative from the beginning.
In the 2nd Lindsay struggled a bit at 1-2 and BP down but once she had won the game Vera totally collapsed. Cakewalk for Lindsay.

Jan 25th, 2004, 03:10 AM

I don't think this is an entirely new emotional situation for Vera, she should be very used to it by now

Jan 25th, 2004, 03:15 AM
Vera needs some anger management therapy.

Not that she had any real reason to get angry with herself because she didn't really give any indication that she could play better today - aside from maybe that first service game.

Lindsay played well although she wasn't pushed much. She did serve very well :yeah:.

Congrats to Lindsay :).

Better luck next time Vera :).

bis2806
Jan 25th, 2004, 03:23 AM
i thought Lindsay's serve wasn't that good today... it got better in the 2nd but it was only at 55% in the first set..... i think by now i'd have loved to see lindsay serving really hard and solidly like she did at hopman but i don't know how fast she served in comparison to that.. can someone comment on that for those who have watched the hopman and this match?

toobaxx
Jan 25th, 2004, 03:27 AM
i thought she served quite well but her movement was non-existing, i know lindsay is no Kim but oh my God , did she have bricks in her shoes today!!!!!!

LindsayRocks89
Jan 25th, 2004, 03:27 AM
lindsay defiently served better tonight than she had been but i still think she was serving better before her shoulder got hurt but it has defiently improved ;)

bandabou
Jan 25th, 2004, 03:30 AM
Yeah, true about Lindsay´s movement....thank God Vera wasn´t up to par today....´cause otherwise the match could have become MUCH MUCH more interesting for Lindsay.

Andrew.
Jan 25th, 2004, 03:31 AM
Well, if Lindsay smacks the ball like she was doing in previous weeks, I personally don't think Justine will do well against her.

Dang I didn't know Vera was this mentally fragile. I think it's time I took her off of my players list. She'll never win a slam or major titles with that kind of crazy temper.

Yes, losing a match after you were up 6-0 5-1 30-15 would be mentally fragile. LOL.

Why? You only support champions? That makes you a loser.

Losers are so fragile in what concerns their real life that they have to worship champions to make themselves look like they belong to the winners group. You depend on the others' success, so you don't have to look at yourself and put a bullet in your head, as you realize you are nothing.

I read what some Venus's fans wrote, and some were saying: "I still like you Venus" - Come on, that tells a lot about your paranoid egos. It makes me wanna puke thinking that people would stop supporting a player because she loses:rolleyes:

JHH is playing like shit, her 1st serve is around the 40's% and she has no game right now. If Davenport and JHH keep going like this JHH will lose in 2

Lindsay's serve allowed her to control the match. Vera missed a lot of forehands that she should have made and just generally played far from her best. But Vera going into one of her ultra-depressive moods shouldn't diminish Lindsay's achievements today. While I'm disappointed that Vera played the way that she did, I'm also really happy that Lindsay was in such fine form. I hope that this form will enable her to win the title.

i don't know i think Justine REALLY wants to beat Lindsay, she's gonna fight really hard . But if Lindsay can get her serv going and keeps her cool she might be looking at a semifinal match-up against Amelie!!!

Is justine now playing far from the level that lindsay was showing in her match against vera?

Doc
Jan 25th, 2004, 05:04 AM
Once Lindsay got that serve going, vera could do nothing about it. That's what frustrated her. She didn't like being drubbed like that.

Lindsay looks so much fitter this year, and her serve, which used to do a lot of damage when it was averaging in the 90mph region, is a better weapon still now that its averaging over 100. Lindsay's serve is not just about speed, it has placement and spin, so does more damage than you'd think just by its speed.

The only question is how she will fare aganst someone who is canny enough and strong enough to handle her serve and get it back in play.

Switched on the TV and saw Vera in tears. She just lost the match and seemed to break down when her ball was called out and not over-ruled...looked like a 6 year old that wasn't allowed to buy lollies.

 This girl really is starting to shit me...

Somehow I do feel that this AO will be Lindsay's one. Solid performance today...

I'm sorry to say, but has VeraZ is IMHO worst one to watch. Her tennis is ok, but what a nasty way to express her feelings. :(

I hope Lindsay can reproduce this form against JHH and not get down on herself - grand slam number 4 could be on the way :)
