You're right. Now when the Macs and company go on and on about how much depth there is in men's tennis we can show them this tourney. :)

Great thread. Now we can officially toss out the bird poo that's
been said about women's tennis, and how crappy the players
are because someone who hasn't been playing since July can
whip a WTA regular.

I think this really means that Venus and Serena can't play half-ass any more. The other players that lost are ususally inconsistent ayway. in the last few years, Venus and Serena more Venus then Serena hasn't been winning as much or beating players that easily when thier off thier games.

Yes. But if too many elite women lose earlier than their seedings, the critics will start complaining that the women's game has no star players.

You just can't win with some people!

Agassi and Federer destroying their opponents is more interesting to watch than seeing Amelie/Justine destroying Cervanova/a 15 year old girl !

The 15-year-old-girl just couldn't return at all the Justine's serves that were over 150 km/h !
In the men matches, at least, one point often lasts more than 10 seconds!

It is not depth. It's combination of injuries and irresponsible approach to offseason training.

Not a crazy tourny in the sense that Henin, Clijsters, Davenport, Mauresmo are still in the draw. Venus hasn't played for 6 months so what were we supposed to expect...

There are always 2 ways of looking at things... Is it "depth", or is the fact that players other than the top 6 are inconsistant? Players like Martinez, Hantuchova, Smashnova or Serna losing early, does it really says something?
I don't think it does. :)

Most of the top seeds in the ATP are blowing their opponents away while the womens matches have been far more closer so i agree with you !
