The top 20 ranking will be unchanged after Saturday's matches.
None of the top-20 players in action can earn enough points to move up.
The 3 players ranked 22-24, Dechy, Schnyder and Lina K can all overtake Daniilidou in 21st place if they win.

On Sunday, the only change in prospect is Zvonareva moving above Petrova if she beat Davenport.

Looking further on, if Davenport beat Zvonareva and then Henin in the QF, she will leap above Serena Wiliams and Capriati to 4th place. If the unthinkable happends and Henin lose to Santangelo, then win for Lindsay in the QF will only lift her above Capriati.
If Myskina beat Sharapova and then Rubin or Likhovtseva in the 4th round, while Lindsay lose her 4th round match, Anastasia will move up to 6th place.
If Venus Wiliams beat Lisa Raymond and follow that with win over Lina K or Golovin in 4th round, while Suarez lose in either 3rd or 4th round, then Venus will move to 13th place.
If Silvia Farina beat Amy Frazer and then take out Clijsters, she will leapfrog 3 places to 15th.

Changes in prospect in 4th round:

Wins for Myskina and Zvonareva (over Daveport) will put Nastya in 6th and Vera in 11th. Highest ranking for both, isn't it?

If the unthinkable happends and Silvia beat Kim, she moves 4 places up to 15th.

The winner of Schnyder v Dechy will move above Serna. If Schnyder wins she also moves above Farina (if she loses) to 19th.

If Raymond wins she moves to 23rd place.

If Zuluaga wins she moves above Kuznetsova to 24th or 25th (depending on Raymond's result).

If Molik wins she can move as high as 23rd (above Daniilidou).
If Kapros wins she enters the top-50 in 49th place.
If Santangelo wins (just for the record...) she moves to 51st place.
If Golovin wins she moves to 102nd place.

great job, always fun to see new people doing ranking lists:)
but i would love to see a TOP 50 list instead of a TOP 40 like Hurley:D

You can find a ranking list as far as 120 on another thread.
There won't be significant changes in the 41-50 range since no one there is still playing.

no one ever answers anyones questions do they? so i'll do it! LOL..yes Tokyo points came off along with last years Aussie points..not sure why but if you go to the WTA site and click 'rankings' it tells you this stuff...it shows what points are going ON for the week and which ones are COMING OFF and both last years AUSSIE OPEN and tokyo points are off the same time:wavey:

Here's the explanation

Ranking points expire 52 weeks after they were added to the ranking list.
Last year the points for AO were added on January 27, so they were scheduled to go off on January 26, but this year it's the middle week of AO so there's no new ranking list, so the points will go off on the next ranking of February 2.
The points for Tokyo 2003 were added on February 3 and will go off as scheduled on Feb 2 this year.
The same phenomena is about to happend on the rankings after Miami and US Open, because these 2-weeks tournaments were put back a week in the calendar, so the points from last year won't go off on the scheduled date but a week later, together with points from tournaments on the following week in 2003 (I think Sarasota after Miami and Bali after US Open).
There is no change in dates of Rolland Garros and Wimbledon this year.
Most tournaments until Miami and after Wimbledom are a week later than last year, so the points in the same tournaments last year will go off on the week before the tournament. The points for Paris 2003 will go off after Tokyo 2004, Antwerp will go off after Paris, and so on...

sad to see venus at number 14, but she really doesn't have to worry about getting her ranking up until after wimbledon b/c her protected ranking will work for all her tournies up to wimbledon (including wimbledon) after that she has to use her actual ranking, but that is only if she uses all of them. i already assume/know she plans on using her protected one at the grandslams. so who knows what "tournies" she will also want to use it at as well, besides Nasdaq 100

see amelie at number 3, but she usually plays what serena does, and i guess it sucks for her she gets a new high ranking, but serena will get seeded before her w/ this special ranking stuff

nitsansh
Jan 26th, 2004, 02:13 AM
As far as I know they don't count the slams among the 8 tournaments in which Venus is entitled to special seeding.
So I guess her special ranking could last until US Open.
It will expire anyway shortly afterwards.

Venus is commited to play at Tokyo and Dubai before Miami, then probably one or 2 clay events before RG, so that's up to 5 until Wimbledon if Slams are not counted.

nitsansh

Raymond advanced to 23rd after her win over Golovin. If she gets through to SF she'll jump to 19.
If Schnyder beat Dechy she'll go to 19th, if Dechy wins she'll be 20th.
If Patty also beat Lisa in QF she'll climb to 15th as mentined above. If Nathalie gets to the SF she'll be just 16th.

Wins for Davenport over Henin or Myskina over Clijsters will lift them to 4th place above Serena and Jennifer (if both win Lindsay will be 4th and Anastasia 5th).

If Zuluaga upsets Mauresmo she can climb as high as 19th.

Considering Kim's condition, we'll have to see whether she can make it into the final but to answer your question, if Kim and Justine do make it into the final, they will be playing for the no. 1 ranking.

IF Kim were to beat Justine in the final she'd be ahead of Justine in the rankings by a mere 13 points, if my calculations are right.

But it would be more safe to assume by the end of the week Justine will still be no. 1, with the way things are looking now

Yeah, Kim would get 6997 pts by beating Justine in the final, and Justine would be at 6984 pts, so close!

It's all in Kim's hands: next Saturday, she has the possibility to get her first slam and reclaim the top spot!

I think it would be extremely disappointing for her if she were to lose again to Justine in a Slam final...

The latest rankings are shocking. The gap between 1 and 3 is wide, very
wide. Considering that the two Belge's play all the same Tier 1's- it
looks to be a couple of more ABF's in the works: like it or not.

(shakes head..)

Q: What was the biggest points gap between player #1 and player
#3? And when was it with which players? I assume it was during a Serena
or Hingis streak in grand slams right? It's difficult to use the rankings
from the 1990's since they only started the system we use today in
1997.
