View Full Version : Could Venus, Serena, or Lindsay overpower Fabrice Santoro?

i only ask because he's so little and in his match with Phillipoussis, he didn't seem to be hitting with a lot of pace at all. Just a lot of slicing the ball and coming in. The Williams sisters and Davenport, obviously hit the ball very hard, I think their problem would be returning his serve. But if they got into a lot of baseline rallies, I think they could at least match him if not overpower him, what do you think?

this is what i wanna know. last year, they talked of winners hit by venus and serena, venus hit one against hantuchova at 91 mph, and serena hit one i believe it was Shaugnessy at 93 mph. they talk of how its just much different. well yesturday they showed the pace and speed of the balls going back and forth with andre and enqvist, and they were consistently low-mid 80's. so i still think they could go out there, especially serena, and hit with them, and take sets off them. it wouldn't be a "no-contest" like many people think.

You need a reality check. The speeds of Agassi/Anqvist were during rallies, not winners. And there is a difference between hitting 1 super hard shot and hitting 30 hard shots.

You're not thinking very realistically.
Of course Venus and Serena and no other female player can take sets off players like Enqvist and Agassi, nor off Santoro.

As awful as people think Santoro may look, the guy has been a solid Top 50 player for nearly a decade.

Santoro is much faster than anyone in the WTA. He'd run down everything a Williams would hit, and annoy them to no end.

Also, Fabrice consistently serves in the 105-115 range... which V&S struggle to do.

Yes. All these women could outpower Fabrice, despite Marat Safin's failure to do so

You can't count Marat because he's a big oaf. :p

No Venus and Serena could not over power any player in the top 300.
I think they would be lucky to a few games

No.

Santoro can smack the ball pretty hard when he wants to.

I think Fabrice would be a player V,S and L would actually hate to play. They all like to play against pace; his off-speed shots would confuse the heck out of them, his forehand slices, drop shots, and net approaches. He would be harder for them than some of the more "powerful" men.

Fabrice does have power, and he has more on his forehand than his backhand.

I don't know why he only used that funky slice forehand against Mark. I don't know why he does a lot of things though.

If Serena has troubles with the Loit's and Barna's of the tour... Santoro is 1000x worse than that.

Indeed. Give Loit some testosterone and you'll see what mishar is talking about ;)

your a bit mistaken

Agassi and Enqvist were hitting from high 60's to 80's yes, but those were during rallies. If Venus and Serena hit 90 MPH winners, then Agassi and Enqvist hit 110 mph winners. (well no that cant be right because Gonzalez who hits harder than anybody in tennis hit one forehand at 109 off a return and I think that was the fastest of the match) but anyway, Venus and Serena could hit with them in terms of back and forth, but when its time to win the point they couldn't do it.

Also you have to add the fact that they're so fast (agassi and enqvist) they'd get everything back with interest.

And as for Santoro, Venus and Serena would lose easily, he's Loit with moxy ;) .

That doesn't take anything away from them though. They hit much harder relatively speaking than men do and if they were men they'd win most every match they play. The fact that the women have been able to raise their games (well some of them) speaks to the resilience of Womens tennis.

And for the person who said V and Rena don't serve atleast 105 averages must be lost. Venus usually serves atleast 108 avg and Serena 103 avg.

And I agree with McEnroe with that they'd be top 200.

I hear Mauresmo overpowers him on a regular basis.

At cards.

Fabrice is a great player. By far the most crafty player I have ever seen.
