Raymond is not one of those "dangerous floaters" who challenges the top players.

If venos is on then Lisa will have no chance..she would have a much better chance on grass.. :p

Why Whining????

Barna would have had a much better chance. Venus is going to smoke Raymond.

Jan 22nd, 2004, 06:25 PM
Barna would have gotten burned down too.

Even if Venus isn't "on", Raymond is still gone.

Same odds as me winning a singles slam aint it??

1 in 250,000? Bullshit.. Any player can have a very bad day, fever, broken leg, heart attack, anything , and odds of that are much greater than that. I'd say, Lisa has 5-10% of a chance to get to R16.

Keith17
Jan 22nd, 2004, 06:45 PM
I'd put a couple bucks on those odds.

Venus has played well, and is in good shape... but her stomach muscle injury is a re-occuring injury, and probably will continue to bother her throughout her career.

Bitter Blue Bong
Jan 22nd, 2004, 06:46 PM
she would have a much better chance on grass..

I find it funny that anyone would have a better chance of beating Venus (or Serena) on grass compared to the other surfaces. Nonetheless, I don't think the surface matters. Let's not forget that Venus beat Raymond at Wimbledon 2002 losing a total of three games.

Jan 22nd, 2004, 06:49 PM
Not to offend Raymond, but its not even a practical matter for discussion to talk about something that simply results in Venus overpowering and outperforming the lesser opponent in all aspects of the game. Doesnt Venus own Raymond? in heads to head i mean? Even on a bad day or even in worst case scenarios when her games not clicking at all ,she can realie on her shear power, athletic gifts and long reach to beat her 7-5-64 at the very worst or maybe have a scare like 7-6 than roll over her in a 6-1 walloping in less time than it even took to get to that point.

I think every one is being a little cocky. Ever one can lose. I would just like to point out two year ago when Venus owned monica and got beat in the QF. Raymond has beat top ten players Venus and no body should take her lightly. Plus Venus has a ankle injury. And a huge plaster on her knee. Now she may well have cut herself shaving. But that plays in to lisa's hands and she has a chance

I say laughing all the way to bank with my 250,000.

COME ON RAYMOND MAKE ME RICH   :wavey:

Mm-hmm. And that's why she lost to Myskina 6-4 in the third just last week?

She played very well the last month of 2003 and it looks to be carrying over here. You're right, she probably won't win, but I'd give her more of a chance to win than I would Harkleroad or Douchevina, or her next two potential opponents, Krasnoroutskaya or Suarez.

The H2H between the two:

2001 US Open: Venus 6-3 6-4
2002 Wimbledon: Venus 6-1 6-2
2002 Stanford: Venus 6-3 6-0

Raymond's game style allows Venus to have a target, which she likes. Two quick sets for Venus.

Anyone giving LIsa a good chance against Venus is just wishful thinking.

Venus has trounced her ea. and everytime they've played.

I like Lisa; she's a UF alum, where I am now, and she is one of Lindsay's many doubles partners. But you're right, her game doesn't allow her many chances against the top players. Has she ever had a big win? I know that Lindsay is 12-0 against her...

The odds IMHO favor Venus to beat herself to a loss against Raymond more than Raymond actually beating Venus to the win.:)

Jan 22nd, 2004, 09:03 PM
Actually Lisa won more games off venus (7) than in any one else at the 2001 USO, still I think Venus will win this pretty easily 6-3 6-2.

Dawn, there is absolutely no difference between Venus beating herself and Raymond beating her. That's a primitive, non-tennis way of thinking. The only thing that matters is the final score and who goes on to the next round. And anyway its not going to happen (Venus losing).

cool bird has bet a dollar on Raymond - he looks to be the only one willing to take those odds.

Could someone please point out to me how this loss takes away the fact that Venus is still one of the best players on tour? I fail to see how losing ONE match to a player you'd normally beat when at you usual level proves anything. But then again, haters don't usually get to see to many Williams losses. So I understand your joy, you don't often get such treats. Anyway, enjoy your moment. The memory of a fat juicey loss like this should you through all of the times in the future when you'll be down after your fav's many many many losses.

No it does not. I don't know where you inferred that from in this thread.

I wouldn't think of laughing at Venus. I've tried for months to put the arrogant fans with both feet back on earth by trying to tell them they expected too much of their girl. It would have been amazing seeing venus win the AO, but I actually didn't believe in it.

Sorry, can't help laughing at the people who posted in the first half of this thread.
For the nice and non-arrogant venus-fans (which aren't many): I'm quite sure venus will be back, just give her some time...
