Would this player get bonus points for beating the world's no.11 or for beating no.3?

No. 3 as decided by the WTA.

 It's 70 for beating the world N°11, no?

it's according to the rankings imo...so beating number 11..not three

Just because she is seeded 3 it doesn't mean she will get bonus points that the 3rd ranked person would get.

The aussie open could have seeded Coetzer number 3, but she still would have only been worth a small number of points

i thought the WTA gave her the special ranking of 4, so wouldn't that mean the bonus points of a Ranked 4th player in the world

I'm pretty sure whoever beats her here (if someone does beat her at all) will get 132 points for beating the no. 3 player. If you check out Notes and Netcords from January 12, it has a section on Serena's and Venus's special rankings and seedings for their first 8 tournies (which was also posted on a thread prior when the relevant N&N issue was released). It says something to the effect of Venus will be special seeded 3rd and that players who beat her will obtain the bonus points of a #3 ranked player for her first 8 tournies back.

That's what I thought too. Allocated points are based on the given seeding
ranking points of the grand slam.

Actually, Greenout, what the WTA is doing wrt Quality Points for defeating Venus is new. It always used to be that you got QP based on the player's actual ranking. As I pointed out in the thread regarding the WTA press release, when Lindsay had her special ranking at the US Open in 2002, she was ranked #10 (IIRC), and Serena got Quality Points for beating a player of that rank, not the 110 for beating a #4 or 132 for beating a #3.

They keep on changing the rules as they go along with whatever. ;)

A player is only worth what they're ranked. So anyone who beats Venus will earn themselves 70 points. It's unfortunate that she's dropped out of the Top 10 but she was awarded the special dispensation because of the injury lay-off to help her ease back up there quicker.

Quality points will be awarded to players who defeat
Serena and Venus based on their special seeding (i.e.: players
who defeat Serena, whose special seeding is No.2, will be
awarded quality points typically earned by defeating a No.2-
ranked player; players who defeat Venus, who has a special
seeding of No.3, will earn points typically awarded for defeating
a No.3-ranked player) regardless of their actual seeding in a
tournament.

Sounds fair to me :)

The wta said that since it is a special ranking, if you beat Venus you get the points for beating the number three. If she just had a special seeding they would only get no. 11, but it is the Speacial Ranking that lets this happen. It was in one of the article pertaining to the sisters special ranking and seeding!!!!!!

It's fair. She deserves the ranking, and so if someone defeats her she deserves the points for defeating the no3 player in the world.

Wonder if this will change

"Depending upon their results, their special seeding may be extended for the remaining four tournaments of their special ranking status"
