I've only seen her play two times now and she seems to have a good all around game. But the main thing that stands out is that she's a fighter. And that can come in handy big time when you're in a hole.

I have a feeling that it won't be long before people start saying she has the best and most powerful forehand on tour. I really wish I could have seen one of the matches where she played Dementieva. Now that would be some hard-hitting.

Ok. Kids gather around. I just watched Maria's match on tv. It was
a tape delay; but who cares right? It was from set number 2 against
Lee-Waters. First of all Lee-Waters can play. I don't know what happened
in the first set; but this lady can play.
Maria's serve was really good. Real solid stuff. I think it's improved.
Lee-Waters was the one making all the noise during the match, not
Maria. She was kinda quiet, actually. The rallies were pretty good in
the second set, the scoreline doesn't reflect the feel of the match.
It looked like Lee-Waters was finally getting into the pace of Maria's
game;but the serves were too difficult to read. Decent match.
What about Msykina? Well..based on today's performance Maria didn't
make any net volleys at all. All the rallies, were rallies and rather
predictable. Once you got into a groove, you can track Maria down.
The pace didn't vary much either- Myskina on the other hand has
alot of tricks up her sleeve. She's got more variety, and tosses a
lob now and again to get a player scrambling backwards and forwards.
She did that against Justine in her win for a title back in Europe last
season at an indoor season.
Judgement call: Maria better practice some volleys on Friday, and
plan to mix it up the game a bit more; or she'll get stumped on Saturday.
