Looks like Loit really knows how to play on rebound ace. She is dangerous here.
She did it to Serena last year. I cant believed Lindsay lose 5 games in a row!!!!!

Well, Lindsay will cruise now in the third.

I was actually expecting it to go to three sets, or at least two tight sets. Loit always manages to trouble top players.

Before everyone thinks there will be a major upset today on the women's side, remember this is Emilie Loit, the same woman who was within four points of sending Serena packing last year at the AO and couldn't close it out, the same woman who broke Jennifer in the first game of the third set at last year's USO and couldn't consolidate the break and ended up losing the match so basically what I am saying is that Lindsay will pull this out like I predicted.

CanadianBoy21

but what is wrong with Lindsay, is she injured, or anything. Yes Emilie seems to be tough on this surface, but Lindsay losing sooo many games in a row to her not it's 1-0 40-15 for Davenport on Loit's serve, hope she gets it.

LindsayRulez
Jan 21st, 2004, 06:25 AM
Loit is very dangerious - even though Lindsay is hitting more unforced errors than expected, going to a 3rd set isn't all that surprising; but I think she will cruise in the 3rd. :)

I agree, the 2nd set should only be a hiccough for Lindsay. Emilie has great abilities but she's too inconsistent to take it all the way. btw, didn't she have match points against Serena instead of just being 4 points away? Anyway, Lindz is up a break in the 3rd already.

gossipcom
Jan 21st, 2004, 06:36 AM
According to Eurosport Loit has a hamstring strain

ETA: Lindsay has never won a GS tournament if she's dropped a set - which means past history counts her out of this one.

she saved a few match points though :)

ETA: Eurosport commentary:

07:34 Margaret Court Arena: The crowd rather bemused start a slow handclap and begin chanting...

07:34 Margaret Court Arena: Loit really struggling and now a tournament director comes out onto the court to get an explanation... the trainer and player head off...

07:30 Margaret Court Arena: The trainer calls for Loit to be given a time-out... Davenport is sitting in her chair playing with her nails...

Congrats Lindsay!!! Nice win over a tough opponent! Although I think you could won this in 2 sets if you dont have those mental lapses in the second. Cant believed Lindsay loses 5 games in a row.

Good play by Loit, she does it everytime in AO, just not successful yet!!!!

Go Lindsay 5 matches to go!!!!

Oh. What weird nerve racking match it was.

Watched the entire thing live from 1-2 in the first set.
Lindsay was so cranky in the second set that she moaned out
loud, and got a "warning" from the chair umpire in a
later game for whacking a tennis ball out of MC.
Didn't know Lindsay was a Hideki Matsui fan?.

Deja Vu moment of match: Loit takes a very, very long break to
get her cramped on leg rubbed out by the trainer and treated.
She was smart this time, and used it to get outta MC and use the
time bathroom break to regain her concentration.

I liked Loit better before. Her on court persona was irksome today.
Lot's of Leyton Hewitt type yelling, and very uptight.

Glad to see LD get out of this tricky match. Really clean games in
the 6-0 third set by LD.

Robbie.

I can imagine someone walking past MCA and having this tennis ball coming in their direction ;)

She just has to make it in some form either singles or doubles till Sunday and I'll be happy :)

ETA: I'm actually very impressive (leave her dodgy GS 3 set record aside) she's breaking the Jon curse here - everytime Jon watches she seems to lose <g> but she's won 2 with him there <g>

Greenout

It was funny because after she got the warning and went up to serve;
there was "FOOT FAULT", and she looked so disgusted. :haha:

gossipcom
Jan 21st, 2004, 07:06 AM
he he <g> she did the same thing in her 1st round match against Pin last year on the same court - when the ball boy decided to leave a ball in the middle of the court she had to go and get it and looked very peeved off.

Loit and Davenport as of the schedule right now are scheduled to play doubles tomorrow on the outside courts.

Mark P getting the night match again as does Pat's doubles match *yippee*

ETA: greenout did Lindsay complain in terms of shoulder, thigh, etc (or was hers more just her UE rate was higher than her winners for the day) or was Loit the only one that seemed affect by injury?

Greenout
Jan 21st, 2004, 07:16 AM
LD looked ok. Nothing bothering her today except the spirit of Goran
hovering over her head in MC, and the deja vu of 4th round 2003
with Ju-ju. I bet LD avoids restaurants where the menu's are in
French

gossipcom
Jan 21st, 2004, 07:18 AM
lol! Too true - wonder if she'll go and have a game of BJ tonight at the Casino to see if the luck is on her side - she needs to rub Lleyton Hewitt's head - to make her opponents get the Hewitt curse... :)

Granville beat Evie D so no Aussie up next for Lindsay, an American instead!

It's a shame Loit's mobility was hampered in the third set - but at least she gave us two sets of great, crafty, innovative tennis. Is it too much to annoint her as the Fabrice Santoro of the womens tour? I love how she messes with the power players (aka "big babes) games.

Are there others who also dig her playing style?? I only found one website on her - in French of course! I'd like to see her cause some damage this year's at Roland Garros. IMO, she def has the talent to be top 20.

gossipcom
Jan 21st, 2004, 09:16 AM
yeah for a few years now since I saw her in Sydney in 2001 or it might have been before that I've been saying she's always had the potential to get into the top 20 - unfortunately for her she always seems to meet a top 10 player before she has a chance to go far in a draw :(

lol it's amazing how people change what they predicted after a match :)

After Loit's match against S. Williams last year, you know never to take her lightly - of course when it involves Lindsay and her concentration level going you especially don't take something lightly and should never predict what Lindsay or Loit will do <g>

Uh it wasn't a walk in the park for Lindsay because she had 17 unforced errors and about 6 double faults in the second set.

What do you expect when a player loses her head for a few games?
