- Martina never wins a slam again!
- Martina never wins the French Open
- Lindsay never defends a Grand Slam championship
- Martina and Venus never play doubles together
- Lindsay and Martina never play doubles together
- If Mary decides to retire at the end of the year
- If women's tennis never gets to see equal pay at all the Slams
- If we have seen the best from Lucic
- If Seles doesn't get to add another Grand Slam to her total of 9
- If Kylie Minogue never joins the WTA

What do you guys hope to see happen?

jomar- huh?

I doubt Lindsay will ever defend a Grand Slam title. She may win one again but I doubt she will defend it.

if Martina and Venus never play doubles together THAT would be a godsend.

OMG Moon, how dare you shatter my dream like that!

I think the 2 most talented women on the tour teaming up for doubs would be fantastic, even though i like the Spice Girls maybe just for a tourney or 2...

I too would like to see Venus and Martina team up.

I think hell would freeze over before Martina and Venus teamed up for doubles.

More possible shames:
- If Anna never won a WTA title.
- TV coverage of WTA tour decreases.
- The Chase Championships never came back to MSG.
- If Martina retired in 2 years.

Lindsay and Martina have already played doubles together, and they have even won a title! I think it was Philadelphia '97

Thanks for the info Caio Braz, i didn't know they've already partnered each other.

Consis, that was one of mine too, i just forgot to put it in there, it would be a real shame if Anna went through her career without a win, and it's tough seeing her lose early in tourneys, all you need to do is think back to 98 OZ, or semi final appearance at Wimby in 97, when she plays well, she can beat anyone, and there's no doubt she has the talent to go all the way!

martina and lindsay have indeed played together before:

Martina Hingis (SUI) & Lindsay Davenport (USA) [5:0 - 100.00%] verses:

1997 Stanford (1) 1 D.Graham/R.Grande W 6-2 6-4
1997 Stanford (1) QF K.Schlubekir/J.Scott W 6-3 6-0
1997 Stanford (1) SF E.Likhovtseva/A.Sugiyama W 6-4 6-4
1997 Stanford (1) F C.Martinez/P.Tarabini W 6-1 6-3
1999 Filderstadt (1) 1 M.Bollegraf/P.Tarabini W 7-5 6-1
1999 Filderstadt (1) QF K.Po/A-G.Sidot L walkover

They have combined pretty well - and i think they would be a FANTASTIC team if they played regularly....

I can also tell you that even though Kylie is not a big fan of tennis, she does admire Martina H....Always knew Kylie had taste...

Wouldn't it be a shame if...
The injured players were unable to return to their former level
Those returning from injury got crappy draws
They did away with the low, court-level TV camera (To see the speed of play, of course. )
There was a position of Tennis Commissioner created, and John McEnroe was appointed to the job
We had to rely on ESPN for tennis news

Wouldn't it be a shame if...

The Grand Slam had video ref and were able to see if the ball was really out......oh wait, no it wouldn't!

It would be a shame if...

*Chanda Rubin never regained the form that took her to the '96 Australian Open semis (and nearly the final)

*Seles and Hingis never won another Grand Slam singles event

*Anna never won one singles event (which is entirely possible, unfortunately!)

*the WTA rankings system never got fixed and a true #1 player was never recognized (this is NOT a diss of Hingis, just a diss of the WTA's stupid rankings! Hingis has deserved #1... while she was winning majors through 1999... she does not deserve it right now though...)

*Seles never played in Germany again... but totally understandable.

*The WTA Championships stayed in Munich for more than one year

*Shannen Doherty joined the WTA Tour

I agree 110% with those two points, especially the part about ESPN! Besides their coverage of tennis events being lousy on TV, I can barely find any highlights on SportsCenter or ESPN.com!

erm yeah... if WE had to rely on ESPN for tennis news, it would be a shame... seeing as we don't GET ESPN in Australia! (Well, maybe on pay tv... I don't have it).

Hingie

It would be a real shame and a massive blow to the WTA if Martina decided to retire... gosh, i better not give her ideas....

Come back firing at the Aussie Marti!

Actually Sar, Eurosport would probably be a godsend for us CONSIDERING WE GET ZERO TENNIS ANYWAY!

DutchieGirl

lol@Andy, yes but if we ONLY had ESPN for the scores... it would still suck! hehe

Well, I know Foxtel plays no tennis either... my friend has it. Or else they only show the SF and F of an event that happened the week before, so you know the score anyway!

Hingie
Oct 15th, 2001, 04:52 AM
Actually Sar, Foxtel is televising Swisscom semis and final, plus it should do Munich as well, and even though it's delayed coverage, it's better than nothing.... BUT seeing my fave went in for surgery and isn't coming back until Hopman Cup i think it doesn't do me any good does it!!!

Oh well, get better Marti!
